Installation issues / Re: Cannot connect to myth backend server...
« on: November 11, 2007, 11:39:28 pm »
Thanks for all the help and suggestions, and I am making some progress.  When I try to play TV now I get a dialog saying that I must be a member of the mythtv group and would I like to be added automatically.  When I answer yes it goes to a screen that says I must manually restart the session.  How do I do that from inside MCE.  Or should I just add my MCE user to the mythtv group?

Installation issues / Cannot connect to myth backend server...
« on: November 11, 2007, 05:35:33 pm »
After going through myth setup and trying to start tv, I get a message saying that myth is having problems and is trying to reset.  After a bit, I get the "Cannot connect to myth backend server. Is it running?  Is the ip set correctly in setup."  This is on a diskless MD with a core only machine running elsewhere on the network.  Running mythbackend on my core I get the following:

Using runtime prefix = /usr
New DB connection, total: 1
Unable to connect ot database!
Driver error was [1/1045]:
QMYSQL3:Unable to connect
Database error was:
Access denied for user 'mthtv'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

QSqlQuery::exec:database not open
QSqlQuery::exec:database not open
DB ERROR (KickDatabase):
Query was:
SELECT NULL;
No error type from QSqlError?  Strange...
Failed to init Mythcontext, exiting.

I can access MySql from the configuration screen in mce manager.

I have searched the forum as well as google, with no clear answer to the problem.  Any help is appreciated.

Installation issues / Re: Problem with PVRUSB2...Solved

The USB-PVR2 problem turned out to be an embedded card reader on the usb bus that was for some reason blocking the kernel from mounting the PVR.  The login issue I'm still not clear about, but was able to get in on ssh.  Thanks for the help, and honestly, I do search the forum exhaustively before posting questions.

I already tried that.  At the login prompt, it won't take an empty password.  It gives me login failed 3 times and bails.

I have already done every search I can think of and have tried the recommended solution, but to no avail.  Your frustration is acknowledged, but I am a bit frustrated myself.

Developers / Standard TV overscanning during video playback...
« on: November 09, 2007, 06:31:21 pm »
Using a diskless MD with an nvidia card on my Hitachi Ultravision projection (not HD), I am getting a thick horizontal blue line across the top of the screen, clipping some of the video, during pre-recorded video playback.  I haven't used Myth yet so I don't know if the problem exists with it also.  Is there any place to adjust this in MCE?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am getting the following messages when trying to install my PVRUSB2 on my diskless MD:

pvrusb2: ***WARNING*** Device fx2 controller firmware seems to be missing
pvrusb2: Did you install the pvrusb2 firmware files in their proper location:
pvrusb2: request_firmware unable to locate fx2 controller file v4l-pvrusb2-29xxx-01.fw
pvrusb2:  Failure uploading firmware1
pvrusb2: Device initialization was not successful.
pvrusb2: Giving up since device microcontroller firmware appears to be missing.

The firmware file exists on the core machine in /lib/firmware/2.6.20-15-generic but not on the MD.  Does anyone know how to get the files from the core onto the MD?

Thanks for any help.

Users / Re: Accessing the kde desktop on core only installation?

Can no one tell me how to access the KDE desktop on a core only machine.  The user's guide is out of date.  It says to ctrl-alt-F2 and startx, but x is already running.  The previous version must have had a console only mce manager on a core machine.  Any help is appreciated.

My core-only machine boots to the mce manager screen.  How do I access the KDE desktop from there?
