Hello fellow Linux MCE'ers,
First, I did ask ddamron if this was the place to post items for sale, and he said I had the right forum. Hope that's still the case.

With that said, here's the deal:
I really got into LinuxMCE towards the end of last year and bought a bunch of equipment. Now, we've changed our financial outlook and I need to sell stuff, so this has all got to go. Many of these items have barely been used. I wanted to offer it up to the existing LinuxMCE community since I still believe in the project very much. Besides, I'd rather sell this stuff to a bunch of DIYers any day over someone who just wants to buy a system and turn it on. Any items that don't sell here will be placed on eBay.

NOTES ON THE SHIPPING/PAYMENT/PROCESS, etc.:
Shipping cost is included, so keep that in mind. You can always upgrade the shipping method if you like. I'll just let you know how much extra that would be. NOTE: shipping is for the United States only. If you're in another country, let me know and I'll send you an estimate for the charges.
I accept paypal for payment.
These items are first come first serve. Just post a reply in this topic with the item# you want to buy. I'll private msg the first person to say they want the item to arrange shipping and payment. I'll change the status to SOLD in the table when an item has SOLD.

Lastly, I've tried to be as descriptive and fair-priced as possible, but feel free to ask questions....just make sure you mention the item#.

Are you all running misterhouse on the core? If so, did you just use apt to install it?

Users / Slimserver software needs update
« on: November 06, 2007, 08:29:19 pm »
Can this be put into the 0710 release?

Currently with 0704, Slimserver 6.2.2 is installed. The latest version on slim devices website is 6.5.4
<url>http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html</url> for download link

6.2.2 has an annoying bug that forces the squeezebox to do a firmware update whenever you switch from slimserver to squeezenetwork (where you can access pandora stations and other goodies.)

I've read on the forums that you should upgrade packages with apt once linuxmce is installed so I'm not sure of the best route to take.
<url>http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2764.msg13778#msg13778</url>

Seems like the easiest thing would be to just upgrade slimserver in 0710 to be the latest version 6.5.4

Hope this helps,
Daniel

This MUST be a bug, because I am having the exact same problem. Anyway we can get this fixed?

It's sad to hear all the bad talk of X10. For those of us who have nice X10 installs, are we just out of luck when it comes to good CM11A and RF integration in linuxmce? When it comes to price, X10 is still by far the best choice. Besides, you can get this signalinc repeater http://www.smarthome.com/4826a.html from Smarthome.com for about $80 and I've found it makes a simple X10 setup with 20 modules very reliable.

Zaerc, I tried your suggestion.
1. Deleted all relevant devices
2. Went back through the install steps.

Still not working at all. Funny that linuxmce's core is plutohome which pitches itself as home automation software, yet that's the stuff I'm having the most problems with.

Let's get this fixed. Please let me know what I can do.

Hmm. I've checked the port. The only ports I have available are
/dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyS1
(both of those don't physically exist, because this motherboard needs an add-on)
/dev/ttyS_72_0  (I'm pretty sure this is the gc100's serial port, because it wasn't showing up in the menu until I added it)
pci0000:00/0000:00:0b.0+3 (I'm pretty sure this is the USB-> serial adapter, because it goes away when I unplug mine.)

So, any suggestions on how to specify /dev/ttyUSB0 since the COM port is a drop down field (not text entry)

« on: October 21, 2007, 02:40:27 am »
Okay,
I'm baffled. I've been working on my linuxmce setup for a solid week now, and I cannot successfully get X10 working. I'm so happy with my setup, but I NEED to start getting my CM11a to work. Here's a little info on my system:
CORE - recommended hardware from the video page (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Video#Equipment_used_in_the_demo
Generic PC as MD - working fine as a diskless MD
GC100 - to control the TV and receiver
DVD Jukebox - for my video library
Fiire Chief remote

I currently have a CM11a plugged via a USB->serial device to my Core.
*Note: I have installed heyu http://heyu.tanj.com/ and I'm able to control X10 <so I know the CM11a is functioning properly>

The CM11a is a child of the core and it's port is set to pci:0000....(the port that appeared when I plugged in the USB->serial adapter
When I add lights as children of the CM11a, they always show as NOT registered. (even after I have reloaded DCErouter)
My test light has A3 in the Port/Channel Number field

The CM11a seems unresponsive to any commands I fire it's way, and I have checked the log for the CM11a.

I am thinking that the problem has to do with linuxmce getting screwed up with X10 RF commands (that are sent from motion sensors or palmpad remotes) See http://smart-home-blog.com/archives/726#comments
That site has a good workaround, but I have no idea how to implement his suggestion. Regardless, even when I make sure no RF signals are sent, the CM11a won't control my lights.

For reference, here are the links that I have been using to try and figure this out and their status:

I hope those links are helpful to someone.

My ultimate goal is to have the CM11a reliably sending commands to my X10 devices, and not getting screwed up when I use RF remotes to control the lights (the wife uses our light remotes all the time)

Looking to the future, I think linuxmce could utilize all of the work that's been done with the heyu application to really implement some sweet X10 support.
heyu supports the following (all of which I think linuxmce should support)
W800RF32 listening - This allows X10 security window/door sensors to trigger events
X10 receiving AND sending - so complex scenarios can be triggered based on motion can function.

So, let's get this X10 support working guys! :)  I'd be more than willing to contribute cash if that's what it takes. LinuxMCE has blown me away when it comes to distributing media, and I think strong X10 support could really increase the projects visibility.

Installation issues / [SOLVED] Re: Fail on installation
« on: October 18, 2007, 01:24:27 am »
Okay, here is the definitive answer on how to solve this problem.
First, let me recommend using nano (a text editor) instead on vi. VI makes complete sense for those who have used before but it just wastes everyone's time trying to explain how to use it.
Here are the steps to take:

1. cntrl+2 will get you to another virtual console. You will see a $ (standard user) prompt. You need to have root access in order to edit the file and save it.
2. $sudo -i  The prompt will now change to a # meaning you have root access
3. #nano /usr/bin/lite-installer.sh  You will now be in the nano editor editing the file.
4. Here's the 'tricky' part. this script has functions listed at the top so if you scan for formatPartitions, you will find it towards to top of the file. HOWEVER, search again almost at the end of the file and you'll see a list of commands. One of those is formatPartitions. (It appears on it's own line) THAT is the line you must comment out by placing a # in front of it.
5. place a # sign in front of that formatPartitions command. So that it looks like this
#formatPartitions
6. save the file using ctrl+o (WriteOut) and exit the nano application (Now you should be back at the # command prompt.)
7. type in #/usr/bin/lite-installer.sh  (the installer will rerun and it won't get hung up this time)

DEVELOPER QUESTION: Can we get this fixed? I have no idea why this is happening, but it's causing quite a few headaches for some of us.

EDIT
This problem has been solved, and I posted instructions on how to do it towards the end of this thread.
http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2123.15

Hope this helps someone. Now onto getting a CM11a to work :)

I'm having the same problem with the video 'reference' system.
ASUS m2npv-vm motherboard BIOS version 0901
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ CPU
80 GB Hard Drive

I have tried 3 different brands of IDE hard drives, and I can't get past the SWAP partitioning step. I have left the system on overnight.

HOWEVER,
I have been able to get the install past the swap partition step when I used my 3Ware IDE RAID card. LinuxMCE had no problem with /dev/sda1

Seems like the problem may lay around on-board IDE drives.

Other things I've tried,
Verified jumper settings
Switched IDE cables
Switched power cables
Commented the "FormatPartition" as suggested here

Oddly enough, http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2612.0 this post states that SATA drives don't work on install. He used IDE and fixed the same problem, but we seem to be seeing this with standard IDE as well.

The only advice listed here http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2347.0 is to install using two CDs (not very helpful)

And Finally,
the post http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2123 seems to have the same problem, but the actual instructions are hard to understand. I assure you the words "formatdrive" do not appear in the file /usr/bin/lite-installer.sh

Is there any definitive advice on what's going on here?
