Users / How do I delete database entries that are no longer valid?
« on: January 01, 2010, 08:05:07 pm »
I recently copied some music files from one drive to the other. Seems the files were added back but the old ones are still listed in the database as well. Is there an easy way to reset the database to make sure that the files referenced actually exist?

Users / Video playback for High Def video files .mkv and .avi
« on: November 22, 2009, 01:25:48 pm »
I have some high def video files that I have been trying to play on one of my MD's. These are mostly .mkv files that are set to 720p or higher. The files will play but the playback is very jittery. Like I am dropping frames.
I have not tried playing them on my core directly because my core is in my closet and I have not really had a chance to go in there and mess around much lately.

My MD has a total of 512k of ram. I am thinking it might be a lack of memory issue on the MD to be able to stream such large video files.

Is there any known issue with this or a minimum memory requirement for large video files?

Users / MD Question
« on: November 14, 2009, 03:03:12 pm »
Ok.. I know its been asked over and over again.. but I am always confused because it seems that hardware is always changing and sometimes the wiki (though is very helpful) is not always clear or easy to search.

I am looking to get a small form MD for christmass. I would like to find one that is supported out of the box with either 7.10 or 8.10 (haven't upgraded yet but eventually will).
I would like it to have digital surround sound support built in as well as HDMI.
What is out there and in use right now that is known working out of the box?

Users / LMCE and NOMACHINE
« on: November 12, 2009, 02:52:20 pm »
I was looking for a way to do a remote desktop connection to my core and I found this and was wondering if anyone had any experience with using this on thier core. It looked pretty straight forward and neat. My only concern is that everything is working right now and I would hate to break it.
Is there a better way to Remote in to the KDE desktop that I am not aware of? I am still running 7.10.

Users / Need a good low profile Sound card
« on: September 20, 2009, 07:53:57 pm »
Does anyone know of a good low profile sound card that has analogue surround? I don't know for sure if LMCE supports this but I was just curious. I wan to connect some surround speakers in my living room and I only have an analogue receiver. I took a look at the wiki but I didn’t see much regarding soundcards.

Users / Video Jitter anyone? [Solved]
« on: September 13, 2009, 06:44:25 pm »
I have been experiencing some video jitter for quite sometime now. It may have to do with a hardware performance issue with my hybrid/core but I thought I would bring it up to see if anyone else has this problem.
I am still running 7.10, now on 32 bit.
When I play video sometimes it will pause for a few seconds and the video and audio will jitter and sync back up. I have tried to solve this problem lately thinking I just did not have a powerful enough core or that it might be because I was running the 64bit version of LinuxMCE.
I think its my core because it seems to happen on both my MD’s and I remember it happening on my core at some point as well.

Right now my core has 4gigs of Ram DDR3200 running an AMD 939 3800 duel core processor.
I just added a WD 1Tb sata drive along my other 2 hard drives which are 250Gb sata and 160Gb sata.
I did notice that my core hard drives seem to be running a little hot so I have ordered a hard drive cooler for one of the drives and some new case fans to better improve circulation. I am hoping that I can resolve this video issue since it really irritates my wife when watching a dvd or a movie ripped to the core.
Usually when it happens I hear "Why can't we watch this dvd on the dvd player like regular people" So to resolve this would be nice.

Users / I think I messed up my ZWave....
« on: September 12, 2009, 12:04:47 am »
I have the zwave dongle.. you know the black one with the blue LED button that blinks. I forgot the name of it right off hand but.. anyway. I just reinstalled my core and went down to the 32 bit version of 7.10 so I could install the new zwave drivers. Anyway...My dongle was not adding my lights after I walked around my house and paired them. The wizard would not get past the part that wanted to initiate the master controller to copy my devices. So it was stuck... I attempted to update to the new driver listed on the first page of the zwave driver topic on this forum. I extracted the file and noticed that the current one was just called zwave. so I renamed the file zwave and copied over the old one. Now my driver will not launch. can someone please help me out. seemed so seamless before....

Users / Adding a brand new hard drive
« on: August 20, 2009, 11:03:54 pm »
I am adding a new Western didgital 1T hard drive to my core. I just took it out of the anti-static bag and installed it. Will LMCE prompt me to format this drive or do I have to on my own? I haven't been prompted to format yet so I was just wondering.
I used to use Gnome partition editor for adding my new drive partitions when using ubuntu in the past. What am I supposed to use on KDE? I noticed there was a drive manager of some kind in KDE but I was lost as to where and how to mount the drive.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Developers / What screen effects does HA Designer have?
« on: August 09, 2009, 08:41:31 pm »
I noticed when working in HA Designer a while back that there were some effects options. Does HA Designer have an effect option for button fade in when a screen renders?

The goal is to make a UI 1 or UI 2 screen that when you change to a new screen there is a slight button render effect to fade in. only maybe a half a second fade in as to give the UI more an organic feel... can I do that?

Users / Can you install skins for MythTV?
« on: August 09, 2009, 02:08:15 pm »
I know this has been asked before, but can you install alternative skins for MythTV? I found a pretty cool MythTV skin that will go well with my current LCARS Skin that I am working on for UI 1 and UI2. I just want to make sure that If I tried to install a skin for Myth That it wouldn't break anything in LMCE.

Users / Question about selling hardware with LMCE installed
« on: February 23, 2009, 08:14:12 pm »
I was thinking of possibly selling some hardware like Fiire does but with LMCE installed and maybe a few different skins for the UI. Is there any licensing issues I would have to worry about? Any skins I make will be free and available to the public as well but I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be breaking any law or stepping on someones toes.

Users / My wife is jealous of LMCE
« on: February 10, 2009, 02:54:55 pm »
I often share my excitement about LMCE with my wife, who is really not into technology.... she often replies with snide remarks....
Last night she asked if LMCE could automatically file my divorce papers. I said I would work on it.

... she was joking of course... i think...

Does LMCE have the capability to take voice commands? If not, is there some kind of open software that can be integrated?
