Yeah it is more for the professional lighting scene but its a solid fast protocol that is very reiliable. The main drawback is that it requires wiring to be installed and there are not 'lamp modules' etc like there are for X10 and zwave. I think for a new build then its a viable contender as it would be much cheaper than a closed protocol system.
Ive tried X10 but havent had much success. It seems to work well in one room but doesnt get very far. Also I find it quite slow. I know DMX quite well from my college days so maybe I will knock up an interface for my dimmers sometime..
