One of the reasons for me starting with Security, is because I think that is the most important thing in my house Tongue
Not only does it make me feel "secure" but it also gets me cheaper insurance *grin*

The Elk stuff can be found at http://www.elkproducts.com/ (IIRC Ness are the AU distributors).

Because the elk (for example) supports various other "Home Automation" things. I would much prefer to use that to drive say the lighting also.  This way if my Linux Box dies some functionality remains.  An embedded system has less chance of failure IMO, and a security product configured/installed properly "should" not fail.  So I should still be able to control lighting via LMCE through the elk I just will need to do some work to make the magic happen. etc.

Sorry I don't have time to expand on this (or ramble on) some more, work is actually making me work. Tongue

FYI... The Elk M1G supports Insteon... Wink

It sure does Tongue now to find some reasonably priced shiz for AU....

Hey RichardP

I am in the same boat.

My plan is to use a security system that I can integrate the lighting with then use LMCE to talk to that.
I am a bit funny about having a PC control * in my house, so using a embedded device to control the "critical" components of the house makes more sense to me. My plan is to stage me HA fit out in the following way.

I am building a house in WA and I am currently drawing up the plans for "smart wiring" (note: I have LMCE running at my current house but only to play with and do my HTPC shiz.)

Anyway after the house is built and all the wiring in place. The first step for me is to install the security stuff (i will be using an elk-m1g.) All my critical stuff will be controlled by this,  security, lighting, etc.
I will then need to integrate this with LMCE (as this is what I will be using to present a shiny control interface to the house Tongue) and then all the other little bits, climate, reticulation, curtains, voip, etc etc Tongue
This is a WIP and my plans will need to be expanded on but thats the gist of it.

So yeah I guess what I am saying is I too am looking for a lighting solution that will work well in AU and not cost my first born. Ohh yeah something that is bi-directional too is a must!! Tongue

Let me know how you go,

I too have a Samsung LCD, I have a serial cable

http://www.dcables.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=149

But I only get garbage out of it (I have tried every combination of baud rate etc under the sun)
It would be awesome to be able to control the tv from my MD, failing this I will just have to settle with using the gc100.

Cheers

Another Update Tongue

Ok, if I go into alsamixer and mute the spdif (iec958)
then crank up aplay (aplay -D spdif dtsfile.wav) it works,
but using vlc, xine or mplayer I get nothing...

Any ideas?

**edit
Ok Mplayer seems to work randomly, however the file I tried with mplayer was a 1080p x264 video with dts sooo much jitter etc Sad
Need to figure out how to get this to work 100% of the time, then wait for 1080p support I guess Tongue

Just an update DTS passthrough works with a DVD, but if I try say an mkv (x264) file with dts I get no output Sad

Any ideas?

Cheers.

99  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Nvidia 1080p missing from avwizard on: November 24, 2007, 03:01:23 pm
Thanks for that,

I have figured out a semi fix, I used this Modeline

ModeLine        "ATSC-1080-60p" 148.5 1920 1960 2016 2200 1080 1082 1088 1125

Just need to crop it a bit but it seems to work Tongue
Now to figure out my DTS problem.....

100  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / No DTS! on: November 24, 2007, 12:46:12 pm
Hi,

I have a alc885 it is meant to support DTS passthrough, however I can not get this to work.
I have tried setting pass through in the xine config but to no avail.
I have tried mplayer vlc and xine.  Also the AVWizard doesn't spit out the DTS test.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

101  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / [SOLVED] Nvidia 1080p missing from avwizard on: November 23, 2007, 04:41:25 pm
Hi,

I have searched the forum high and low and haven't found a specific answer to this problem.
I have a nvidia 7300GS via DVI going into my Samsung 40" 1080p LCD LA40M81BD (HDMI).  However avwizard only allows me to select up to 720p.
I have tried to manually add support for 1080p but have been unsuccessful.

Can any one help?

I am using whatever nvidia driver LinuxMCE installed

Thanks.
102  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / elk-m1g support on: September 12, 2007, 10:15:07 am
One thing I would love to see, and I didn't see it in the compatibility list,
is support for the elk-m1g.

I currently have one of these for security, locks, lighting etc and would love to go the extra step with LinuxMCE to integrate the rest of my AV throughout the house with my elk.

Thoughts?

TIA
