Users / Technical question about what controls auto power on/off of TV
« on: February 10, 2008, 08:45:17 pm »
I'm trying to get my USBUIRT set up the way I want it. I know what I need to do, but I don't know where to do it.

Right now, this is how it works....
My TV is off. On my webpad orbiter, I select video then select one of my ripped DVD's from my Raid5 array. My TV then powers itsself on (thanks to the USBUIRT), and my media plays.
Then, if I stop the media, and wait about 5 minutes, the TV will shut its self off (again, USBUIRT)

What I am wondering, is what is telling the TV to turn off and on? Where can I find it in  the web admin to modify it? I've looked through scenarios and events, but could  not find anything.

62
I finally got my USBUIRT set up for my TV and my Xbox 360. It was able to learn my IR codes for both devices with no problems.

My TV has 8 inputs, and no discreet ir codes. The power code is a toggle type, and the input select is a toggle type (with the option to toggle twice for the first input).

Most everything works as it should, however the input switching isn't doing anything.

When I watch a movie, my tv turns on as it should..  However, a scenario was automatically created for my Xbox 360 when I added the new device, so I have an Xbox 360 button under media. However, when I hit the Xbox 360 button, I would expect 2 things to happen (neither of which do)
1) Turn on the Xbox 360 with its power IR code (this works manually testing it through admin)
2) Tune to the correct input (input 1). Since it is normally on input 2 (where my Core/hybrid is hooked up), it has to go around through all of the inputs with the toggle button. This is set up and in order through the admin (TV AV1 AV2 AV3 HDMI1,HDMI2,PC,Side). I would expect it to know that I'm on AV2 and it needs to cycle through the rest to get to AV1, then one more toggle for the "Toggle twice on first source". This should yield the source toggle being triggered 8 times. This does not happen, why?

I understand that discreet inputs are much better for this, and that toggle buttons could have sync issues. But, I can live with this issues, and sync issues should be minimal as we will only controll the tv with an orbiter.

Once I get this finished, I'm gong to do a nice tutorial in the wiki on the USBUIRT.

Here are a couple of screenshots to help illustrate:

Users / Bug: Private data not private! Please confirm...
« on: February 10, 2008, 03:49:14 am »
I have been testing out 710 beta 3 for a couple of days now, and noticed that none of the security features work.

My system has 5 users. I have a core/hybrid and a touchscreen WinXP orbiter.
I can change the user and the room at will on the orbiter without using a pin, even though I have been through and set up all web admin privacy settings under:
Advanced->Privacy Settings->Users - Orbiters
Advanced->Privacy Settings->Users - Rooms
Advanced->Privacy Settings->Restrict Access

I have also noticed that i can access all private media. All of my media is stored on an internal Raid 5 array, set to use "Pluto's Structure"
However, if I change to User_A and rip a DVD to public, then change to User_B and rip to private - I can change back to User_A and User_B's private media is under my videos.
Also, I have noticed another problem in this area.....  Lets say I change back to User B, and on the orbiter go Media->Videos. Then I hit Options...  Under "User:", I can select from Public and User_A. This is wrong!  I should be able to select from Public and User_B!

Can someone else please confirm these bugs? If so, I will get them into mantis

Users / Disabling autoplay when a DVD is inserted...
« on: February 09, 2008, 06:37:38 pm »
Is there a way to disable autoplay on the MD's?  I'm in the process of ripping my 300 or so DVD collection on to my core. My wife is trying to watch a movie that has already been ripped..  Since I'm changing discs out ever 10 minutes or so, its very disruptive.

Is there an option that does this?

Developers / CM11A - adding new lights...
« on: February 09, 2008, 03:54:45 am »
I have my CM11A set up per the wiki instructions. I have the correct Com port selected for its device data.

Now I am adding lights (or trying to anyways). I add a light as a child to the CM11A, but I'm unsure what to put for Device Data -> Port/Channel Number.

Just to test it out, I have a lamp module set to A1. Does this mean I just need to put A1 in the Port/Channel Number field?  I have tried it with no success so far.

thanks

Users / Port Forwarding questions
« on: February 09, 2008, 12:45:43 am »
My core is up and running stable now. I've finally finished tying in the rest of my network. The last problem I have now is with port forwarding.

Both my wife and my son have Xbox360's, and they each have their own Xbox Live accounts. For xbox live, I must forward ports TCP 3074, UDP 3074 and UDP 88. Both Xbox 360s  have static IP addresses of 192.168.80.201 and 192.168.80.202 (the DHCP in the core has been changed to stop at 192.168.80.199). Also, my external interface has a static IP address, and the ports are forwarded from my DSL modem to the core's external IP. (I know it is correct because if I unplug the core from the DSL modem and plug in an XBox 360, everything works as it should)

Now, when I set up port forwarding in the core, it does not appear to work quite right.
Here are the ports forwarded...
Code: [Select]
tcp  3074 to 3074  3074  192.168.80.201  port_forward  Delete
udp 3074 to 3074 3074 192.168.80.201 port_forward Delete
udp 88 to 88 88 192.168.80.201 port_forward Delete
tcp 3074 to 3074 3074 192.168.80.202 port_forward Delete
udp 3074 to 3074 3074 192.168.80.202 port_forward Delete
udp 88 to 88 88 192.168.80.202 port_forward Delete

Is there something I should be doing with the *limit to IP field???
Is it even possible to forward the same ports to multiple IP addresses like I have here?

thanks

Users / More problems with software RAID
« on: February 08, 2008, 03:21:54 pm »
Well I'm on day 3 now and 3 installations later...

Yesterday,I built my RAID array, and it worked great: When I would pop in a disk, and hit Copy, the RAID array would be the default selection.
However, the array went screwy yesterday and kept wanting to rebuild, so I reinstalled everything from scratch (again)

Now, I re created the Raid array. However, now when I insert a disk, I have to browse to /mnt then /device then /28 then /data then /public then /video..  You get the point - not user friendly at all!! (but it worked yesterday like it should!?)

I have checked in the admin under Advanced -> Configuration -> Raid. Then I go to Advanced.
I'm noticing that PK_Users was set to "Public" (yesterday it was set to "Use Pluto's Structure"). So I changed it to "Use Pluto's Structure". Then there is a checkbox "Use Automatically". This was checked yesterday, but today, no matter what I do it remains grayed out!

Aside from it not working how I would like it to for copying, there is another bad side effect - If I go Media->Video on my orbiter, it shows 2 of every movie! The paths are different however - one shows as:
File: PUBLIC:other/Software Raid 5 [28]/public/data/videos/blah.dvd
the other will show as:
File: /mnt/device/28/public/data/videos/blah.dvd

Can someone please help me get this straightened back out - I don't think I can go through another 10+ hour reinstall (10 hours because it rebuilds the Raid array every time)

Users / Cover art problem
« on: February 08, 2008, 05:01:34 am »
I have my core all set up (finally). I have a system disk that just holds the LinuxMCE install, and then a separate raid5.

When I insert a disk and hit copy, it copies to the raid5 (which is selected by default) just as it should. However, all of my copied dvd's come up as Unknown Disc. This is fine. But, when I go to the admin, and go Files & Media - > Cover Art.... whenever I scan for DVD's with no cover art, it only scans the system disk - not the Raid array where I am storing everything.

How can I scan for cover art for drives other than the one LMCE was installed to???

Users / Where to get high resolution LinuxMCE logos?
« on: February 08, 2008, 03:53:45 am »
I'm looking for some fairly high resolution LinuxMCE logos - I would like to change the boot screens and desktop wallpaper of my windows touchscreens so that it appears to be more integrated with the rest of the system.

Users / Asus EeePC - almost network boots
« on: February 07, 2008, 09:35:54 pm »
I have an Asus EeePC 4G. I thought I would see if it would network boot and become a stand-alone MD.

The network boot starts, fut hangs after about 22 seconds!

Code: [Select]
[   22.588975] NET: Registered protocol family 17
ipconfig: no devices to configure
/init: .: 1: Can't open /tmp/net-eth0.conf
[   22.594130] Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

_

is the NIC driver just not loading?  I know there is a patch for madwifi that enables it..  Does this mean I have to recompile madwifi in the core to get it to work?

Users / RAID problems...
« on: February 07, 2008, 07:13:43 pm »
I just put in 3 1TB hard drives into my core.
I went in to the admin->advanced->RAID
I added a new raid array (raid 5)
I added a 3 drives (1TB each) and made sure none of them had a check mark under "as spare disk" (i have done this twice now)

But what happens is that 2 drives become active, and one becomes spare.. (I don't want a spare, I want a 3-disk raid5 array.. In fact, the minimum for a RAID 5 array is 3 drives, so I don't know how or why it is working with 2 active drives)

Also, the size come out to be 1863.03 GB, shouldn't it come out to be 2000.00 GB??

Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

Also, will LMCE alert me if a drive fails so I can rebuild the array with a new one?

Feature requests & roadmap / Feature Request - Database relocation
« on: February 06, 2008, 06:56:12 pm »
As I am building my core, I have been thinking about data integrity. Media is the first thing that comes to mind. But what about the countless hours that go into filling in metadata etc....
In my core, I have one system drive, and 3 drives in raid 5 for my media, I figured this would make it easy to do a complete reinstall on the system drive if I ever had to, without risking losing all of my media. Then I thought it would be nice if I could have RAID protection for the database itsself. Its easy to see how someone could have literally thousands of hours into tweaking their database. Doesn't that deserve to be protected as much as the media?

What does everyone think?

Users / DHPC server range?
« on: February 05, 2008, 09:06:07 pm »
Can I set the DHCP server to only allocate IP addresses within a certain range, so that I have an area where I can use static IP addresses?

I noticed on the network settings page in the admin there is a setting "Provide IP address for anonymous devices not in pluto's database"
Does this mean I should check it, and it will give me a range of IP addresses I can use for static,

or

does it mean that the DHCP will still assign IP addresses, they just won't be scanned as Plug and Play by LMCE?

Users / Which resolution to use? (720p or 1366x768)
« on: February 05, 2008, 12:56:24 pm »
I'm getting ready to set up my LCD TV to display correctly (I have to start fiddling with the modeline to center and scale the screen properly)

The thing I have noticed is that I set it up for 720p (1280x720), but my TV's native resolution is 1366x768.

Should I leave it as is? (set up for 720p), or would I actually gain anything by running at 1366x768?

Users / Next step... Design my network... Suggestions? Critiques??
« on: February 05, 2008, 01:25:57 am »
Ok, I have tested beta3 pretty well on a temporary setup. The rest of my parts come in tomorrow, and I would like to start upgrading my network for use with LinuxMCE. I could use a little help in this area.

Here is what I currently have:
Code: [Select]
+ SpeedStream 4200 DSL Modem
+Belkin WirelssG router (with 4 lan ports)
          - Computer 1 (wired)
          - NFusion Nova satellite box (wired)
          - Xbox360 1 (wired)
          - Xbox360 2 (wired)
          - Computer 2 (wireless)
          - Computer 3 (wireless)
          - Nintendo Wii (WIreless)
          - PSP (wireless)
          - Laptop (wireless)

I have already run Cat5e cable everywhere in the house I need it (some computers are wireless right now, as i only had 4 ports on the belkin router)
I also have just picked up 2x 8-port gigabit switches

So as of now I have:
-Cat5e cable run
-DLink 8 port gigabit switch
-Hawking Technologies 8 port gigabit switch
-Belkin wirelessG router
-Speedstream 4200 DSL Modem
-LMCE Core (2 ethernet cards for internal and external network)

From what I'm gathering, I can put my belkin wireless G into "Access Point" mode, hook it to the gigabit switch and have LMCE core assign 192.168.80.xxx IP addresses to wireless connections.

So what I am thinking, my setwork should be set up like this:
Code: [Select]
+Speedstream 4200 DSL Modem
+LinuxMCE (speedstream 4200 connected to external NIC, Gigabit connected to internal NIC)
          +Gigabit Switch
               -Media Director 1
               -Media Director 2
               -Media Director 3
               -XBOX 360 1
               -XBOX 360 2
               -NFusion Nova satellite receiver
+Belkin wirelessG (in Access Point mode)
                     -802.11g orbiter
                     -Nintendo Wii
                     -PSP
                     -...etc wireless connections
+Second gigabit switch to give me more ports
                     -Future wired device
                     -...etc...

Does this seem to be the way I should be setting up my network???

thanks,

Jon
