Installation issues / Re: FreeNas, cant get ip from DHCP
« on: December 04, 2008, 07:48:14 pm »
Ok, i knew I had an extra NIC card lying around somewhere, and I found it. Put it in. Got it recognized and everything is working just fine now. I can only wish I was savy enough with programming to write my own drivers and to contribute something productive to the opensource community.

Thanks for the help though.

For anyone else who has a problem with FreeNAS, make sure your NIC card is supproted.

ok I think i figured it out actually, my stupid onboard LAN nic is not supported by freeBSD therefore not support by FreeNAS. now that is A$$. I either have to get another card or just use openfiler. Freak'n A!

hi thanks for the reply
no offense taken, I tried to set the nic card first then rebooted per the manual instructions, then tried setting the ip via dhcp, but always returns 0.0.0.0

I got fed up messing with it and installed openfiler. that is up and running, but still trying to figure out how that works.

As for the freenas box, I tried the onboard nic, as well as added a pci nic and nada.

I will try the livcd on another existing comp.  any other insight would be awesome. I am actually thinking installing ubuntu and runny fuppes and samba might be easier.

Installation issues / FreeNas, cant get ip from DHCP
« on: December 03, 2008, 05:10:42 am »
Anyone else have this issue? I cant seem to get my new freenas box I put together to talk to the core DHCP server. I have yet to try connecting it directly to a different router, which I dont think I should have to.

I have the free nas connected to a hub/switch which is connected to the core. I downloaded the newest version AMD64, and it installed onto a USB drive without a problem. I also tried running it directly off the CD. still nada.

Any ideas?

i started a new portion in that wiki on my experience but hadnt had time to finish it. Hopefully what I add will help others.

A nice thing to add would be to have Via drivers, openchrome/unichrome, incorporated to a standard LinuxMCE distro, so slow n00bs, such as myself, wont try to throw their compy into the wall when they can figure out how to get the drivers installed. Took me a week but I got it, kinda.

otherwise, keep up the good work! I just wish I could contribute somehow.

i got the thing up and running, but I used a script someone on here made with the help of some other threads. It's not running 100% to my satisfaction but hey, its running. I will try to put a step my step layman's guide to get the stupid VIA CX700 stuff to work.
I appreciate the help ya'll have been giving. It took me a week of reading and trial and error to get it to work. Very frustrating for someone who is a n00b with linux. again i thank all of you, and I hope to contribute back to the community some how.

This seems to be the thread and steps I need to be looking at/following to get my silly MD working. I will do my best with this before I start asking questions, so I just wanted to thank you all for this info first. I hope I dont come crawling back with my tail between my legs too fast. This compiling business is confusing the heck out of me.

Thanks in adv.

Do you have any additional info or more detailed steps on installing the driver? For one, I download the CX700m file from that site, but i get a .run file. And when I look around my core for a /usr/pluto/diskess/... i dont see a moon, i just see the media director #'s i.e. "/usr/pluto/diskess/109"

ANy help would be appreciated.

I bought a JEtway also. It also has HDMi and I am not sure if it is the same board, but it is a Mini ITX. Anyway, I keep getting stuck at the Diskless Setup Failed.sh as well. I look at my webadmin, and it is trying to treat it like a Fiirestation. I cant figure out how to get this to work. Does anyone have better direction? I am trying to set it up manually, but still cant get passed the Diskless Setup Failed part.

thanks for the reply. Now I gotta learn how to do a lil programming so I can actually contribute to this community, instead of just taking.

Well I think I may have figured out the problem, unless my setup caused this problem. what do I mean?... Well I went down to look at my core yesterday when I couldnt access the admin site, and turned out my harddrive decided to stop working. damn maxtors. Good thing it is still underwarranty (didnt realize I could still return it to maxtor within 3 years or so to get a replacement minus shipping my old drive).
Anyway, lucky me I didnt have anything precious on the drive.

So that may have been the culprit to the freezing and the eventual need for me to keep reloading linuxMCE (4th time). I was having problems with the core
freezing... freezing...freezing...freezing, not loading Reinstall.
freezing... freezing...freezing...freezing, not loading. Reinstall onto a new hard drive
freezing... freezing...freezing...freezing, not loading. Reinstall
freezing... freezing...freezing...freezing, not loading. Reinstall.
freezing... freezing...freezing...freezing, not loading. Reinstall.
freezing... freezing...freezing...freezing, not loading. hardrive is dead.Reinstall onto an older IDE 80 gb drive (i know this one has worked for a long time, previous drives above were SATA. A Western digital, and a Maxtor-the one that died)

We'll see. So maybe it's the AMD64, Harddrive, or Linuxmce 7.10b4, or my damn luck. I will keep updated how long this setup lasts.

Users / ATT Callvantage with LinuxMCE
« on: March 28, 2008, 06:17:08 am »
Has anyone had any luck trying to get the ATT Callvantage VOIP to work with the LinuxMCE Asterisk?
For one thing, I am having a bear of a time finding anyone else trying this with LinuxMCE, and a hard time finding out how to connect just a regular pots line to linuxmce. The Wiki never really talks about setting up a POTs line with the system. Just talks about those other VOIP services listed.

edit: well apparently I missed this link
http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2267.0
That link is a start to figuring out how to get an analogue line working.
If I cant figure this callvantage out, I may have to keep researching this.
