Installation issues / Re: SPDIF / Analog Audio
« on: September 14, 2007, 03:50:54 am »
I want to be able to play dolby digital and DTS audio.. Im only getting two channels of audio through SPDIF, when i should be getting full 5.1

Thats my problem. I'm getting audio.. but its not surround sound, and it should be. I inserted DTS dvds and dolby digital DVDs, both played in two channels.

I o not have any other audio connetors to my amp at all.. All i have is the optical out... I checked on the amplifier and it doesnt have surround sound at all, just left and right channels. the PCM light is also on. In the AVWizard if i select SPDIF Optical, it wont play any sound at all, even after i close the wizard and pop in a DVD. When I select analog it plays all my sound in analog, but its ONLY connected to my amp through SPDIF Optical..

when you have the command prompt, that means you're in the shell.

when it says "dcerouter login:" type in your login username/password

cd /etc/X11/
then use mv xorg.conf xorg.config.1
and then mv xorg.conf.backup xorg.conf

Installation issues / SPDIF / Analog Audio

I have connected my computer to my amplifier through the SPDIF Optical out port on my motherboard. In the AVWizard, I select the SPDIF Optical option for audio and I get no sound. When I select Analog, the sound comes clearly, but then obviously I cannot play DTS or Dolby sound, it only outputs as PCM.

Why is the SPDIF connection only outputting analog audio???

Installation issues / AVWizard not displaying correctly
« on: September 13, 2007, 05:41:35 am »
I installed Kubuntu using the CD and then installed the latest Nvidia drivers using Envy. Then I installed LinuxMCE. After rebooting, I was unable to view the AVWizard, so i went into the shell and replaced the xorg.conf with the xorg.conf.backup. Then the AVWizard was launched.

Problem is, when i am in the AVWizard, the display isnt working problem. I selected DVI/HDMI (im running this on my 47 inch HDTV). Then I selected 720p. After that I selected 60herz, and my display looked extremely garbled and there were lines running along it. I went back and i tried 50 herz, but i could only see the top left corner of the AVWizard!!!! Literally I could only see 20% or less of the total screen.

How would i go around solving this? Is it a problem of the Xorg.conf that i replaced? What could be the problem?

no I havent tried that... problem with that is that the chipset i am using is extremely new... and i really doubt that linuxmce supports my card.

im running the Geforce 7050 / 630a graphics card. Its integrated into my motherboard. The latest nvidia drivers from the nvidia website JUST added support for this. When I did the linuxMCE install, it didnt even say anything about drivers. I didnt get the proprietary driver dialog box.

Installation issues / [Solved]LinuxMCE load fails (Dcerouter login:)
« on: September 12, 2007, 11:54:47 pm »
Alright... I've hit yet another dead end.

I restarted my computer after LinuxMCE finished installing, and as soon as the Kubuntu bar becomes totally blue, and it finishes loading, i get an error message ending in

dcerouter login: *Reloading... etc etc

Also, the screen keeps flashing back and forth between the dcerouter login, and another screen that says helper script failed.

Any ideas whats going on??? I had installed Kubuntu first, then installed the newest nvidia drivers as per: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=514161

Then I installed LinuxMCE.

I also tried holding shift during the Kubuntu loading screen, after the beep. This doesnt help at all and it doesnt load the AV wizard.

Im running the Abit AN-M2HD, with the 7050 graphics chipset.

Installation issues / CD Drive wont spin up
« on: September 12, 2007, 10:33:51 pm »
I was installing LinuxMCE just now and it asked me to insert the first disk, after i inserted it, the drive spun up and cached the files, then it asked me to insert disk two. I did the same and the device spun up again, copied the files, and within 5 minutes it was asking me for the kubuntu disk. After I inserted the kubuntu disk, the drive never spun up... the dvd drive is reading the cd, because the light flashes every so often, and the hard drive light also flashes, but the disk never spun up. Its been running for more than 20 minutes now, and i'm unsure as to what i should do.

well i solved the problem just now, turns out that i was running the Hard drive off of an PCI card for extra IDE slots... when i connected the hard drive directly into the motherboard.. that problem went away.
