The tearing you are descibing is typically associate with vsnyc.

Try to set all vsync options in nvidia-settings for your display.
Not forcing vsync causes the video renderer to render as fast as it can, great for games, bad for videos.
Forcing vsync causes the video renderer to only render as fast as the framrate dictates.

Youll have to do a bit of hunting but Direct TV via DVB card is possible with a legitimate access card/card reader/ and dvb-s card that supports DSS signaling (ie the Twinhan VP1020A).

This is sort of a grey area as Direct TV will not activate a card using this method however you can activate a standard receiver and use its card once activate to receive only the channels you are subscribing to.

Unfortunately there are several patches required for mythtv to read DSS streams and youll have to apply them manually to the source tree of mythtv (the same version that lmce uses) then compile and replace the binaries in your LMCE distro.

Plug it into your lan port.

Unfortuantely mythtv is failing to start.. I am looking into it deeper now... ;(

What do you guys feel about putting some time into making the Media Director and Local Orbitor screen aware ie tie itself to a specify X display like :0.1 or :0.2.  In this manner we can make custom multiheaded frontends that can be stored in the equipment rack.

I maintain custom multiheaded mythtv frontends for various friends as well as one here at my home.
For SD standard usage You can easily service 4-5 LCD's from a modern system.  My home system runs 1 HD frontend on a projector and 2 SD frontends on LCD screens.  All equipment (front and backends cable/satelite boxes etc) are stored in a custom media cabinet Using IR extenders and VGA Multiswitches you can easily switch programming to all tvs or certain tv's.  This is also very usefull for DVD Jukbox systems.  You can easily play 4 or more DVD's on most modern systems and with nvidia binaries you get XVMC acceleration on all displays including TVouts with there multiheaded cards.  This way you get access to your 100;s of dvd's to all rooms with 2 PCS, 1 backend, and multi-frontend.

Most of my friends bulding new houses are requiring no equipment except LCD and speakers in their rooms for a clean environment.  The VESA mount cases from fire are a nice solution, but i think for many rooms the saving could add up.

I evision being able to pull this off with MCE and realise it will be alot of work.  It allready gets confused on multihead setups.  One my dualhead Nvidia card it will only use the TV out if i have a monitor pluged up.

If anyone has interest in this or any ideas i would appreciate it.

But to find out that alot of the cool features from the video are only available on a $150 remote i think is the surprise for most.

If a bit of time was spent with the wii remote, or the gyration, we could make these work out of the box as well.  Perhaps we should focus more on the Nokia770 as the "cool" remote as it has now droped in price less then the Fiire Chief.

Just a few of my observations.......

I have been running mythtv from the TRUNK brach for about 2 yrs now.  I have sustained uptimes on my backend in excess of 200 days.  I can leave a frontned watching Livetv for days on end without any issues.

I have not had any of the same luck with the integrated mythtv in LMCE.  For starters its a bit old and would really benefit from the fixes that have benn contributed since then.

There is a branch of mythtv-frontend called myth-vid brache that brings full opengl OSD to the frontend.  This may be worth looking into.

I second the fact that in its latest incarnations, the internal mythtv player might be our best bet as it now supports most codecs and with the addition of the mythv-vid branch we would gain full opengl OSD.

VDR makes no sense for North American Users as it is designed for DVB-S and there not a hell of alot available FTA/DVB-S in North America.  MythTV has very mature DVB support now in TRUNK.

As far as im concerned TV is one of the most important things of a media center.

In an homage to LinuxMCe i have build a Mythtv backend server which will launch as many diskless frontends as i like ala LMCE.  I use this system along side LMCE until i can get LMCE as stable as i like.

We need to get community development started!  It seems everyone is working on their own directions and as far as i can see no-one has been able to build this beast from source.

I see niche issues being and solved daily here in the forums but none of these new developments are making their way into the codebase.

I for one have been mucking with mythtv for the last several months.  Others have been working hard on remote support etc.

I think the best way to get started is to start a repo for all things source including the sources for things that are realeased between official releases (For instance this new Mythtv update).  For one the update doesnt seem to be online, and where are the sources for this package?

How are companies like Fiire selling units that wont get guide info?  Are they getting updates before us?  Are they contributing their work back to the project?  Maybe im missing something here but i would think TV is a big part of a "Media Center".

I understand  this is alot of work for 1 man to do, however it is a lot of work becuase even if others wanted to help they cant.  I understand there are certain priorites for development, but it would seem since we have only one major developer and he receives contributions from fiire and the like, that priorities are going to making these commercial products work out of the box.  This is fine, but if there were more developers i feel work would be put towards other areas.

I dont mean this to be inflamitory and i appreciate all the work that has been put in so far, however without a CURRENT source repo i dont see being able to start any sort of community development.

This being said, I think LMCE has alot of potential an i as well as many others im sure would love to get to work on making this project grow.

I would like to offer my services to run a REPO for this project.
I can maintain and manage the server for the first few months but would appreciate
donations to help pay for bandwidth and hardware costs.
We could even make this a build server.

The first step as i see it would be to get a CURRENT full source tree that we can compile!
The we can decide if we would like SVN or CVS, FTP, shell access, etc for the developers.  This server should also include private forums for the developers as well as perhaps IRC for interactive communication.

Im wondering why there isnt alot of interest in this.  Are you guys not watching TV on your LMCE rigs.
I found the particular version of mythtv that ships with LMCE to be more then unstable. Couple that with the lack of guide data and i fail to see how anyone is using LMCE to distribute TV around the house.

Coming from a strong MythtV background, this is the one thing that is making LMCE unusable for me.

Personaly I run my Mythbackends on seperate boxes then LMCE as i have a good deal of tuners (6 DVB-S and 2 DVB-T)  These cannot all be crammed into an LMCE core.  I have been able to build mythfronend packages and install them on the core to connect to my backends.  This works fine on the core but does not work on diskless MD's as i beleive the mythplugin is handling playback there.
