Users / HDMI Audio
« on: January 22, 2008, 06:35:47 am »
Guys - (Andrew!)

I'm a bit screwed here! I have one of those motherboards that the SPDIF connector is too close to the HDMI connector so I can't connect both at the same time....

I know some people have gotten HDMI Audio working (intermittently, apparently) - can someone give me some pointers on how to get this going (LMCE 0710b3)

It is the nVidia 7050PV/630a chipset..... kinda getting desparate cos its unusable without sound!

Installation issues / 0710 Beta3 issues...
« on: January 17, 2008, 11:54:09 am »
Have installed the AMD64 DVD beta3 on an Abit AN-M2HD - 5200+, 2GB RAM, uses the 630a and 7050PV nVidia chipset

1. in 720p and 1080p video is jerky, even the flickr images do not scroll smoothly, plus there is a tear half way down the screen. Yes, its with alpha blending, but I heard that since Beta2, especially in 720p this was smooth now. But even Flickr images??!! Connected using HDMI to DVI, but that shouldn't make any diff. This mobo should have more than enough grunt shouldn't it?

I have gone to the config in the admin page - video card was set to Standard Video Card, and acceleration to xv. I understand that 0710 has all the new nVidia drivers as of Dec07.... anyway, I switched it to GeForce or TNT2, and chose opengl, and rebooted. Same issue. Pretty much guessing on these options.... any suggestions? (Totallymaxed? :) )

2. I chose VDR during the setup (I'm in a DVB area), but Sarah didn't detect my Nova T500. In the same screen as above, the PVR is set to None. Dropping it down, there is no option for Nova T500.... what should I choose? Shouldn't it have detected it automatically?

3. CSS installed and working fine for playing DVD - tried to rip a DVD, and it just comes back straight away as failed, no explanation. Only just tried this, haven't played around, so no biggy yet - main thing is getting the video smooth and stop the flickering (with vertical sync) - BTW, I set the BIOS to 256MB ( the max ) for shared memory...

Users / Music Playlists, edit in realtime??
« on: January 14, 2008, 09:28:58 pm »
Sorry, haven't got a core up at the moment - can someone tell me, when you set up a playlist for music, can you edit it (as in add new songs, rearrange the order and remove them) in realtime, meaning, whilst the playlist is playing the media, you can add new songs to it?

Users / Video to mobile phone...
« on: January 07, 2008, 11:29:46 pm »
Has anybody set up their IP camera's and security system to redirect video (through Asterisk?) to their mobile phone on security breach like in the video?

How do you do this? And do we know what the mobile phone needs to be capable of to achieve it? I have a Blackberry Curve .... ?

Users / WMV9 Advanced Profile?
« on: January 06, 2008, 04:16:50 am »
Guys

Has anybody tried WMV 9 Advanced Profile - which is the high end profile codec part of WMV HD, I am getting some video encoded this way as .wmv files, but not just the basic or main profiles, the Advanced Profile. Wanted to know if anybody had got this playing on LMCE yet, what CPU you were using to ensure smooth playback, and were you able to play over the network - presumably wired only!

Users / Asterisk, SIP and VSP compatibility...
« on: January 02, 2008, 03:15:07 am »
Does Asterisk interface with pretty much any VSP as long as they support SIP? Or do they specifically have to support the Asterisk protocol, IAX - dunno the difference between what each do, but I assume that IAX supports the special "PABX/PBX" functions, whereas SIP is a lighter, VoIP only protocol??

Does my VSP have to know and configure for the Asterisk installation, or can I just leave them out of the loop (my preference!)

Compatible Products & Services / Nova T 500 card, PCI/PCIe
« on: December 21, 2007, 10:52:59 pm »
I have been working on the basis of using this card when I build a new core - totallymaxed recommended it - however, I have just realised that the mobo I was planning on using only has 1 PCI slot, plus a PCIe x1 and x16 slot. And I am going to need the PCI slot for the second NIC!

Does anybody know if there is an equivalent, working card that will go in a PCIe slot instead? Needs to be dual tuner, HD, and DVB of course, not ATSC. I've also looked for PCIe NIC cards, but that seems even harder to find!

Users / Media not appearing....
« on: December 15, 2007, 01:42:50 am »
Yes, I know this is an old one that sooo many people have asked before... but its been a long time since I had a working LMCE system running, and even then it was a bit dodgy!

I set up a Hybrid in a VM, added a network drive from another PC (actually the VM host - XP), let LMCE find it, told it to use it, public and in the LMCE standard structure. Confirmed that it had successfully created the public-data-audio/video, etc folder structure - so it can see/read/write the share OK. Then put some audio and video in the right folders - confirmed in the Admin page that it could see the share "device" under the right folders (Windows [30], etc) and clicked Resync on each. Watched the sync process happen thru completion.

Checked in the web admin media browser - can see media, but for some reason it only seems to show audio files no matter how many of the properties boxes I tick on!

Either way - in the LMCE media browser I cannot see anything in the appropriate media folders (except things like the Flickr folder). At this point I assumed it was the old mistake of not having tagging on files set up, so of course I just switched the sort mode to Filename - but still nothing!

Weird thing is, when I use the search dialogue, I can see all the media listed - audio and video?!

Users / WiFi and net booting MDs - possible?
« on: December 10, 2007, 08:15:57 pm »
Is it possible to do a PXE boot of a diskless MD over WiFi? Can't think how to get such an MD to connect to an AP first to allow this, especially with encryption! Anybody know of any BIOS's that would provide this functionality that could be flashed onto generic hardware? Stretching... I know!

... or perhaps any PCI WiFi cards that can be preconfigured to provide the connection so that it is transparent to the PC?

... or can it just not be done with diskless?

... really want to avoid having to have a wired network everywhere just to support the boot process... especially with .11n coming :)

Feature requests & roadmap / Orbiter for other cell phones...
« on: November 23, 2007, 07:01:21 am »
Is anybody planning on building an orbiter applet for non-Windows Smartphone/non-Symbian? The vast number of phones don't fall into this category, but very often have Bluetooth, Internet access, and support Java apps... is this on the roadmap at any point? Personally, I am hoping for Blackberry to be supported....

Has anybox tried this unit (esp. given that the 200 disk model has been discontinued) with LMCE? Does it work OK?

Users / LMCE controlling sources not piped through it
« on: September 17, 2007, 01:16:14 am »
Just a quick question for my piece of mind - I am nowhere near the point of being able to test this yet!

If you have an A/V source (eg a cable TV decoder, DVD player, etc) and you pipe its outputs directly to your TV/amp (ie not connected through the LMCE box in any way) - can LMCE still control the set up, meaning you choose that source from your MD/Orbiter and it issues the correct commands through 232/IR blaster/etc to start playback/choose channel, select the correct inputs on TV/amp and volume, etc.

I have been assuming that this is what the A/V set up stuff is all about in the setup wizard (Sarah!) but just wanted to make sure I wasn't expecting too much of LMCE!

And if this is the case, and you pull in EPG from a 3rd party xml source, will LMCE understand how to integrate this with the A/V setup so that you can seemlessly choose the program you want from the EPG and then it fires off all the necessary commands? Obviously, I realise in this setup you couldn't record/redirect the signal with LMCE.... what about if your cable box has built in PVR - can LMCE be configured to know how to use that functionality as well?

Users / Setting up Nokia 770 as an orbiter???
« on: September 05, 2007, 11:31:54 am »
I have bought a Nokia 770 to use as an Orbiter and tried to follow the wiki links, etc to install the software, but it is far from self explanitory, esp for a Linux noob!! I managed to upgrade to 2007 Hackers Edition and install an XTerm and Dropbear, but 1) editing the gainroot file with vi is all but impossible in Xterm because there is no way to move the cursor around, and 2) the flasher3.0 command doesn't work, nor does ssh (was that supposed to come with dropbear?). So no way to become root that I can work out.

Also, to add complexity(!) I don't have anyway of connecting to the Internet - but copying the .deb files to the media card via USB then using the install from file option seemed to allow me to install the libraries and code for xterm and dropbear.

Has anybody got a step-by-step guide that can help out? At this point I am frustrated by the fact that the instructions seem simple enough, but there are enough gaps of "assumed knowledge" that prevent me from getting over that final line! I just want to get the orbiter up and running and be happy that I haven't wasted all that money on an expensive paperweight!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Users / LMCE vs Pluto(home)
« on: September 04, 2007, 06:00:43 am »
Simple but stupid question!

What is the distinction between LMCE and Pluto(home)?? When I look at their web site, it looks extremely similar!

I know that vast amounts of LMCE are based on Pluto, and that Pluto say that LMCE is the Kubuntu branch for Pluto, but what does that actually mean in practical terms? I can't see a significant difference, what is the need for one over the other?

Feature requests & roadmap / Log bundling for troubleshooting...
« on: September 03, 2007, 11:49:51 pm »
Perhaps a simple button in Advanced that goes and grabs every log file from all the different locations, both LMCE and Kubuntu, puts them in a single TAR file that can be uploaded easily to the forums when asking for expert help. I realise that this isn't a product that we can expect commercial-level full support of, but this would certainly help during the Beta and RC phases of new version to iron out bugs. Many people (including me!) are not all that familiar with Linux and with such a complex system it is hard to rely on text descriptions from the pioneers to understand what might be going wrong on a particular installation. Make it a requirement of Beta testing - perhaps even with automatic upload if there is Internet access....
