Users / Re: still problems in ui2 alpha-blended
« on: September 10, 2007, 09:21:51 pm »
I am attempting UI2 Blended.. I AM able to successfully use UI2 Masked (I mentioned this already!), I can hear sound, I just can't see anything through the orbiter.

First, which Orbiter version? (UI1 UI2 overlay or UI2 Blended?)
Second, can you see anything through the orbiter? (UI2 only, UI1 blocks everything)
Third, do you hear the audio playing?

Not that this would necessarily fix it but I would go to the media director panel in web admin and try other relevant video driver selections. Sometimes it may just reload things in the right order.

Yes it is worth noting that on cards with two connectors, one of them being VGA, CRT-0 is actually the DVI connector with a VGA adaptor on it. Again, that's not the problem i'm having... the display shows, but I can't see the screen saver, or the media player behind the orbiter.

How did you install? DVD or CDs? Did you change drivers?
I have discovered for me that if I start fiddling everything disintegrates fast the more I try to fix. I keep my media on a separate disk and I can install from the DVD fast. Most of the backup/restore works so the pain isn't great. You will need to manually reinstall any floorplan images. There may be a few other small things to check for.

1. from CD, both times
2. no, same NVIDIA based drivers (I have to use the newest vendor drivers)

Users / Why is my media metadata changing?!
« on: September 10, 2007, 07:00:47 am »
ARRRGGGGGHHHHHH yet another fucking insane #@$)(#@$(@#$(#@%@# !!!

Why, after I go through, and PAINSTAKINGLY SET....EVERY....DAMN....piece of metadata.......

it decides OH, I'm gonna re-set that myself to something else completely!

all of my dvd-rips that I've done INSIDE linuxmce are being reset to type: Low-Res

anywhere I set a source type of HD 1080 or HD 720, it gets reset to something else

#(@%@#(%@#(%#@ (!!!!!!!!! WTF?!?!?!

my frustration with this system is mounting exponentially, and I am about to freaking burst a blood vessel!

Users / Sony VAIO XL1B3 Jukebox failure
« on: September 10, 2007, 06:51:43 am »
My Jukebox has spontaneously decided that the optical drive will no longer respond to commands at all. The changer element still works, but the Powerfile_C200 driver gets confused because it can't find the data drive attached to the changer.... The drive, curiously, is not showing up in /proc/scsi/scsi after successive reboots, and power-offs of both the media director it is attached to, or to the changer itself.

Interestingly enough, my backup XL1B3 unit seems to work fine, it detected it and started using it without a problem.. Is there any way to jog the optical drive, to reset it? any tricks anyone knows? argggg this is just not my night at all. :-(

I can't seem to activate the full UI2+Alpha blending... nothing shows up behind the control panel...even though the $(@#$@#(%$@# Diagnostics tool works _PERFECTLY_!

I have given up and am using UI2 with Masking, but this _really_ __Really__ sucks! Why is this happening? I have an NVIDIA card that is supported, and it DID work the very first time I installed LinuxMCE..but I had to reinstall it to put it on the production hard disk, and it doesn't work anymore.. All the right xorg.conf configurations are there, and the Extensions are enabled (Render and Composite), so really, WHAT THE HELL?!

yup, I am in agreement here too. let's DO it. my main thing right now is, I'm trying to get a development environment set up... I tried using the UbuntuHelper scripts, but I have a funny feeling those are for 1.0??? .... not sure....

I will write down how to set up an up-to-date environment, so long as I know I am building the right tree, the right environment, etc.

Users / Re: How to get the image (jacket) for a dvd
« on: September 10, 2007, 01:05:21 am »
The simplest way, is to rename the .iso files to .dvd, and to place them into the appropriate media folders where LinuxMCE can see them.. i.e. /home/public/data/videos ....

once this is done, and updatemedia has crawled them (give it 10 minutes), you can then go to the Pluto Web Admin.. at  and select Cover art from the Files And Media pull-down menu.

Hopefully this will get you closer.. You can adjust the keywords, and filters for each to make sure that the right cover art is given.. But the best tips are:

* Use a title that matches the disc you are trying to match. Use either spaces or underscores in the filename.. If you need to, make sure the keywords match, and that there aren't any extraneous words in the keyword field.
* Increase the # displayed on a page if you want to get them all done at once, enter something like 1000, it will take longer, but you'll be able to get them done in one pass.

Once you've entered in keywords, it will scan for the data. Do keep in mind that this will take a fair amount of time. Be Patient, wait.. and the page will refresh with matching cover art.. Find the ones that are applicable... It may not find all of them, but that's okay, they will show up again in the cover art list, if you say "None of these" so that you can refine the keywords and try again.

I hope this helps.

webpaul1, Looks like the update got fudged...

I noticed this inside

        /usr/bin/wget -q --http-user=$USER --http-passwd=$PASS --post-file=$POSTFILE --header=Accept-Encoding:gzip "
tvlistings/xtvdService" --output-document=-|gzip -d>$RESPONSE

is there a way to force/reapply the update?

arrggg!!! help!

I did the update, no errors noticed, but when I try to enter my username and password in the wizard, it says, "There was an error retrieving your provider information, please check your username/password/location" ...

I have logged in several times to flawlessly from a blank form, my username and password work... why is it not working inside LinuxMCE? has anyone else had this problem?

so, you're talking about adding an additional layer of UI complexity just to satisfy your little edge case? nice. um, no.

Paul? What if we got a slice from or somewhere similar?

also, what ARE the immediate priorities currently in the development branch?

Users / Re: Fiire Remote
« on: September 06, 2007, 06:24:08 am »
I am getting better with the remote, with that said, I am trying to gain more proficiency in the LinuxMCE codebase. There are a number of UI issues that can confuse some people (some people would think, why do I sometimes have to hit OK instead of hitting the center button?, the consistency of changing the haloed button needs to be dealt with, even though I am now subconsiously flipping back and forth between using the direction pad and the gyro, this is a source of potential confusion.)

also, I do believe that work with a pure gyro-mouse needs to be dealt with, because the Fiire is very much a schizophrenic device.. It is BOTH an IR remote, _and_ a gyromouse, with remote buttons, and gyro mouse buttons.

why am I bringing this up?

Because so much of the appeal of LinuxMCE has seemed to be, the fact that EVERYTHING can be done with the gyro and 3 buttons... Close.  But if that was the case, why did this remote need to have an entire universal remote collided into it? It can be done with fewer buttons, fewer parts, and certainly a smaller footprint, did Fiire really think somebody would treat this thing like their Comcast DVR/learn their other devices remote too?

I'm just posing these observations because I believe this product, while fantastic, needs a good deal of refinement (and another paint job, please please please dear _GOD_ it clashes with everything. If Fiire wanted a remote that stood out from the others, they could have used a number of different shades, but I will take this up with them personally.)

Ugh, okay, I just paid $150 for this thing...

it is _NOT_ for people who have less than PERFECT arm control. It is far too sensitive.

Not to mention there are a number of _VERY_ ___VERY___ Brain dead UI SNAFUs... Why should I be flipping back and forth between the center button, and the OK button that's buried on the bottom left to do something as simple as PLAY A FUCKING MEDIA FILE?!

argggghhhh... frustrations are mounting with this system.
