Users / Remote HDHomeRun
« on: August 04, 2009, 09:11:26 pm »
If I go to my other home, and take linuxmce with me, is it possible to leave the HDHomeRun at home and access it, streaming across the internet.  Of course, setting my second home firewall only to allow traffic from my home IP.

This would be a lot like slingbox, but using the HDHomeRun and my linuxmce box instead.

Any thoughts or experience on this ?

Users / USA - remote K/B + mouse/trackball
« on: March 06, 2009, 01:20:10 am »
So you have your remote, but sometimes when looking at youtube or bringing up kde you need more than cursor movement and mouse clicks.  You need to type in search names etc.

So what are people currently using in the USA, wireless/infra-red keyboard with mouse/trackball that works well with linuxmce.

Thanks...Martin

Andrew / totallymaxed..what do you make of this ?

I think the atom needs to get up to 2GHz to work really well at 1080P

Developers / Sharp Aquos LC-42D64U
« on: August 19, 2008, 09:49:24 pm »
Hello (puts his asbestos suit on).

I have a Sharp Aquos LC-42D64U

It's identified as a aquos but different version and only comes up with 5 inputs instead of the 7 I have.

A thread on the forum (http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5328.0) gives advice for changing the template via General Serial Devices.

My questions are:-

1)   Should I be changing the template or create a new one for this specific model ?

The reason I ask this, is that I don't know how compatible the codes etc. are between the models.  You would hope the manufacturer wouldn't waste resources recreating new codes, but who knows.

2)  If I need to create a new template, who do I contact to authorize/register a new template number so it doesn't conflict ?

Any advice or direction would be appreciated as this is my first attempt to add hardware change to the overall linuxmce system.

Regards...Martin

PS.  anyone know why my auto repeat on the keyboard isn't working ?

Users / Update version 5
« on: April 10, 2008, 08:28:36 pm »
Hello.

Well the system just offered me an update on my next reboot, which I did.  Update version 5.

It would be nice if it was mentioned in the NEWS section on the main web page that there is a new update and what has been fixed, improved, changed.  I just used the search and can't find any mention of update 5.

Just for the future.  It would be appreciated and noteworthy for most people.

Users / RAID driving me crazy
« on: January 23, 2008, 09:21:10 pm »
0704

1st test setup RAID 5 worked fine.

2nd test setup RAID 0 worked fine.

Decided to do a new full fresh install due to lots of issues and now, going through the webadmin and setting up RAID 0, it doesn't see the drives so I can't add them.

The system does see all 4 hard drives as it keep popping up and asking me if I want to use them, one at a time, but they are NOT seen in the webadmin like they were in the previous 2 installs referenced above.

Yes, it's the same 4 hard drives, freshly formatted.

Quirky or what.

So why does the main system see the 4 drives and want to use them, but the webadmin configuration RAID NOT see the drives anymore ?

Another question whilst I'm here.  From the mythtv installation suggestions, it advises to use XFS or JFS as the filesystem as they are better for fast deletes (think TV recordings).  I don't see any filesystem setting in the webadmin-configuration-RAID unless it picks up the current filesystem settings when it formats the RAID.   Or just does it do a default ext3 ?

Users / Zombies/defunct processes

Fiire Engine - linuxmce 0704- update version 4 -

Yes. I know that zombies/defunct processes don't take up much resources, but parents should NOT exit without terminating their children and cleaning up the environment.

NOTE: - This seems to happen after burning DVD's, even though the burning process is successful with the appropriate finished messages.

As I have been unable to kill or remove this dead processes I reboot daily.  They occur on a regular basis.  ie..

uptime
 23:18:37 up  3:25,  0 users,  load average: 2.96, 2.84, 2.45

Yes, only 3 minutes and 25  seconds yet:-

Yep, 17 zombies in only 3 minutes and 25 seconds.

0704 update 4 - I have noticed when I go to media-manage drives and rip a DVD, when it finishes, the rip icon stays orange ie it doesn't change.

When I rip an audio CD, on completion, the symbol/icon changes to green and it says "Done Rip"

Users / RCA HD61LPW42 - DVI-D
« on: December 31, 2007, 11:02:52 pm »
I'm trying to run my 'media director' on my RCA HD61LPW42 on the  DVI-D input.  I have tried every resolution and refresh rate available but I get no picture.

It does work on my Samsung that has dual VGA/DMI inputs.

I'm hope it's a frequency/refresh rate issue but have no more DVI devices to test with and I've asked my available friends if they have suitable devices to test, but no joy.

On other sites, they mention EDID information from the HDTV itself but they don't say how to retrieve that information.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions ?

Regards and best wishes...Martin

Users / Multiple Video pictures/coverart cross linked to other videos
« on: December 31, 2007, 06:22:52 am »
Hello.

I have logged into the shell and checked and there is only One of  'good neighbours' (life in UK) and One id3 yet when I go into media-video, I see Three images.  One says not readable/no vdcss, the Second one gives is cross linked to another video and the Third works fine.

I have quick reloaded, regenerated orbiter and even rebooted.  The Three images remain.

Also, why doesn't the auto-repeat on the key (hold it down) work?  Or is it just my system ??

Users / WARNING - XL1B 200 CD/DVD disc changer
« on: December 19, 2007, 06:51:34 am »
Hello.

I bought a Sony Vaio XL1B last month.

I finally bought enough H/D capacity to setup my system and rip CD/DVD's.

Cleaned and loaded 200 CD/DVD's.

I have been having a lot  of problems riping them.. Lot's of aborts overnight etc.

Ejected some troublesome DVD's and found major circular sandpaper streaks over them and some with gouges within the last 1 centimeter/half an inch of the exterior.  Powered off and removed the case and manually extracted all but the one in the drive.

Out of 200 clean, almost pristine discs, 70 have major damage (ie. the ones I have tried won't play in my DVD player), others have many minor scratches and there are barely 20 that are still pristine.

Be warned about this player.  I would advise you to make copies and put copies in instead of the originals.

I will, of course be contacting Sony about this and will let you know what they say.

But I expect I will have to spend some time and money repairing these discs.

Not happy...at all.

Users / some rip's missing id and picture
« on: December 18, 2007, 08:24:10 am »
Hello.

I have a Sony XL1B.

What I have noticed is when I rip the DVD's, 7 of them are listed as Unknown DVD with no picture.

The thing is, all the originally DVD's had pictures ie. when I switch to media-video-source and turn hard drive off so I only see the DVD's, they all have pictures.

When I turn on hard drive, and turn off discs & jukebox, showing exactly the same DVD's, but now ripped, 7 are unknown without pictures.

When I go to kde and the shell and into the public/data/video directory, 5 of the unknowns have no .id3, but 2 do.

Why is this happening ?

How do I fix the issue ?

Thanks...
