Users / Re: Insteon BIDIRECTIONAL Home Automation drivers ready NOW!

Hey ddamron,
first off, thanks for not only the development, but for the wiki you've drawn up to go through it.

I've been going through it step by step as I'm setting it up in my own house.  I had a couple of questions/clarifications that I'm hoping you can make for me.

Quote
Setting up the Generic Serial Device

        * on the top, select Wizard, Devices, Generic Serial Devices. You should now see the InsteonPLM device.
        * select the room it's in.
        * in the Controlled By box, select CORE
        * select Update (at the bottom)
        * Now, in the COM PORT ON PC, you can select the com port it's on.
        * select Update (at the bottom)

I didn't understand the second to last line.  I didn't see a selection for this item in 0710b3.  Is that a vital portion?

Also, the follow log for the device.  My log files for devices have never worked... on anything.  Instead I get "Log not found: /var/log/pluto/68_Generic_Serial_Device.log" for anyone, how can I get those working.

thanks

It'll be back up.  I'm just changing some domains around and so it's a little lost in the shuffle.

I too enjoy avatars... even if I'm not a the inventor of java

Alright, I thought I had this one beat, but I was wrong.

Everything was going fine until yesterday when I attempted to add in provider listings.  Not only am I not getting any listings, but my screen has gone back up to some enormous size just before it shuts off saying it's not supported (too large I suppose)

Anyway, I went through the video setup wizard again like I had done before (seemed to fix it) but it was a no go this time.

So I'm back to square one, asking: Where is that MythTV settings table?
and
why don't I get any guide listings with my account activated?

The first question obviously being the more important to me

thanks for any help out there

I doubt it would be any help, but I was using the D-Sub port.  My TV has a regular VGA port that I can plug into.

I am but a shadowy reflection of yourself.

Installation issues / Re: nothing after install

FYI, that board uses the Intel P965 chipset.  A quick google turns up a continuing driver issues with ubuntu in particular.  So I believe that can be chalked up to an incompatible mb.

Tell us more about the symptoms you're experiencing with the DVDs?
is it giving you an onscreen error of any kind.  Have you been able to take a look at any system log files?

I have not run into this, but perhaps posting a little more about your machine might help.

What chipset are you running on the mb?
what else is hooked up inside and outside of the box, hard drive, I'm assuming that is a USB keyboard?

There may not be enough of a user group here to diagnose a problem that specific (could be wrong).  I see http://ubuntuforums.org recommended a lot.  Since this project is so closely related to Ubuntu itself, that might be another place to try.

Alright, I don't seem (or was not able to find) a "delete from database button.  I'm on 0710b3 by the way.

Anyway, your suggestion did send me in the right direction though.  I moved the folder off to another directory and hit the "resynchronize" button for the folder, then moved them back in.  That seemed to do the trick.

thanks for your help

To sort of bump the topic I've included the screen shot.  As you can see, the mpgs are not items I would like in this list.  Is there a way to tell the system to leave that directory out... like it was doing in the first place?

Alright, I never did get the answer on this, but when I did reconfig the display (Adanced>Video Res and Audio Setup), an indirect effect was that it set mythtv back to defaults.  So that might be an idea for those who need the long way around the issue.

Just switched over to the HDMI output in setup, works great.
I too set it up to be a 720p.  The TV claims to be able to do 1080p, but I wasn't able to get that setup to work.  Is that a MB limitation?

Hey, while everyone else is dumping in there .02, I would like to throw in as well.

My perspective is that that LinuxMCE is still a young product.  Yes, it's unpaid part time devs as said above, but I think there is an argument against that factor as well.  One, we have much more brilliant, interested developers working with this project who are dedicated and empowered to make a difference, not seeking to waste an 8 hour day looking at their email.

That being said, LinuxMCE is quirky, and hard to work with, and sometimes downright frustrating :)  We're early adopters, and that's the price we pay.  The cool factor coming out of this project is not that you walk into a house where the system is seemlessly integrated... yet.  The cool factor right now is more along the lines of that first matrix movie where all kinds of junk is hanging around and your lookng at it going "this guy is a genius for even getting this going"... but I digest.

I'm a developer as well.  Yes, i know I've been a slime, and I have not committed anything to date but I'm looking forward to it when I've settled in enough myself.  and I think that I'm the target market for this product right now, not a real end user.  The kind of person who is more prone to reporting, than throwing a fit when the lights go out, and the movie stops while they're watching with their mate.

I think the big mistake that LinuxMCE/Pluto has made is marketing materials.  When I first looked at this project back when it was pluto, they already had this cool visual presentation up and running.  too bad their system wasn't as refined.  Hopefully it will turn out that way some day though.

On the DRM/HD/whatever problems.  I've run into those frustrations as well.  It's sad that we are treated like content criminals.  I too am the kind of person who is ripping music and movies to listen to for myself.  I'm not trading them online.  When I record a show, I want to watch it later, not sell it on the black market.  (alright, I'll fess up, I don't like commercials either).

Until those guys come around though, we're stuck with what we got, hacks and all.  The community here I think is excellent.  Sometimes very prone to attack (which is also a lot of fun to read when you're not in the middle of it), but an excellent community none the less.  Ask questions in the right way and do your own research in parallel, and with a lot of much need patience, you're going to get there.

I'm also using this board with 0710b3, it's been great.  I have not had the chance to use the HDMI or Optical though.

Alright, I made the mistake of running the updatemedia script on the backend to try and resolve some picture issues that I had.  Well now I have a lot of videowiz files sitting in my video menu. How do I remove that directory from the browser?

That kind of feature has already been requested.  Currently there isn't any way other than manually going file by file in the web browser.
