Bulek,

Do you mean that you plan to move an orbiter from the LAN side to the external WAN side and keep the same IP?

OR

Do you mean that you want your orbiter to have a WAN IP even though its on the LAN side?

OR something else?  And how was it working in Pluto?

Sorry, I'm not sure what your question is.

I believe this problem may be upstream.  I had similar issues with ubuntu.

Connect all to the switch - do not connect all to the wifi router.

MODEM => lmce core (192.168.80.1) => switch > wifi > wireless devices
                                                     switch > MD(s)
                                                     switch > laptop(s)
                                                     switch > desktop(s)
                                                     switch > server(s)

You may be able to configure your wifi so that it only provides wifi and does not route and does not offer dhcp - this can be done if you can use FOSS firmware such as OpenWRT.  Or you should be able to turn off the wifi's dhcp server - and just use it as a switch.  So connect the cable from the wired switch to one of the switch ports on the wifi router and DO NOT use the router (WAN, MODEM, etc) port on your wifi router.

Solexious,

The lmce core IS a router and it is happiest with its default network config - and net config & status options are limited from the web admin interface.

You want the core internal network to connect to the switch and have the core provide dhcp.

MODEM => lmce core => switch > wifi router (perhaps configured to pass dhcp from the core)

all of your devices will how get dhcp form core and while I have had some success customizing the core's IP & other network settings, I have fewer gremlins when I let it remain in its default configs of ..80.xxx on the internal net.  and have it get its external net config via dhcp from your modem.

joseph

ps [ How do you use your wifi router?  Is it giving out dhcp on wifi in the same ..0.xxx subnet?  If you use wifi for internet (not local) connections, then another option may be to place the core between your wifi router and the switch. And of course there are many other options...]

Erwin,

I have not noticed easy network config or status in the web admin, but from the kubuntu terminal you can

cat /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf

Users / Re: LinuxMCE 0710 beta4 upgrade
« on: March 08, 2008, 03:06:43 am »
kir,
Good news.

Do you know what the differences are between the
6.85 GiB - LinuxMCE Install/Upgrade DVD for i386 - 0710 Beta 4
and the
3.71 GiB - LinuxMCE Install DVD for i386 - 0710 Beta 4?

If I understand other comments correctly, we can upgrade with the 3.7 GB version and the upgrade script, so what's in the other 3 GB?

thanks,
joseph

Developers / Re: 710 Release TODO
« on: March 01, 2008, 07:43:11 pm »
zaerc has a good point about the update part. will there be/is there a good update mechanism for patching things like that in lmce 0710? a new release and then a few patches every month to fix some stuff would be nice.

Terrific idea!  Is that the plan?  If not, then I concur with implementing the 'good idea cutoff date' for 0710 (and maybe final beta).  And on to 0804.
It's extremely interesting to watch this great community make real progress.

much thank, joseph

Users / Re: utility to strip the ID3 tags off oggs for using elsewhere?
« on: February 12, 2008, 08:33:14 am »
A thread from last summer

http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=1746

Suggests that UpdateMedia is writting the id3 tags in mp3, ogg, aac files (the code is svn: src/UpdateMedia/PlutoMediaFile.cpp) using libid3 - hardcoded to these three extensions.

Some desired to embed meta data in the files themselves, instead using the .id3 files in the directories and the database for flexibility.  And so modified LinuxMCE (rip script) to embed Artist/Album/Track/Genre/Date information into the music files when ripping a CD to see the information on the Squeezebox when playing back ripped files from the core.

Perhaps a better solution for this goal would be to enable lmce to present the metadata to the squeezebox from either the .id3 files or the native tags of the format.

Is there a way to create .id3 tags for video (and audio that does not use id3) outside of lmce?

I use Jaikoz to lookup songs by acoustic id from MusicBrainz & MusicIP (and file/folder/metadata).  It's a java app - http://www.jthink.net/jaikoz/

Also dBpoweramp does format conversion and conditional paths/names as well as ripping & AMG meta retrieval.
http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=13928

And http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ let's you export tags to html, rtf, csv, xml, etc. So that may be a way to get meta data into .id3 files.  dBpa also allows exports with programming - http://www.dbpoweramp.com/developer-scripting-dmc.htm

Finally, I'm curious if anyone has had luck orgainizing video files with tools like idealsorter - http://www.idealsorter.com/ or similar?

Bottom line is I have a large collection of av (some carefully tagged, some not yet) but I'd like to have lmce display the meta on the ones I have organized.  lmce does not seem to pick up the meta directly, so I'm thinking that adding .id3 files may help.

thanks,
joseph
