Sorry for any confusion, I was responding to the Device Templates idea when I asked about "DTs" Device Templates for MDs.

Thom,

I hadn't thought much about using DTs for MDs.

So that we can understand, are you suggesting that Device Templates should be created for systems when they require drivers of extra configuration?

So these would be as an exception to the PnP until the drivers / configs are incorporated into the release?

thanks,
joseph

Andrew,
Thanks.  I understand it's a legacy button.  I've found in hte past that when things get messed up and the MD no longer starts, hitting that button often clears it up.  And I've used that for a quick fix when I didn't want to devote time to finding the route cause.

I believe the setup diskless script calls the build image script.  Is that right?

thanks,
joseph

We're also looking to change out MDs to lower engery / more capability.

Are the MSI Wind NIC & PS issues solved in 0810?

Has anyone tried the Jetway HBJC200C91 booksize bare bone?

Newegg reviewer says the BIOS is better than the msi wind and it runs 10c cooler.

thanks,

When "MD no longer PXE boots"

It can be fixed by clicking on the "setup diskless MD" button which is at the bottom of the web admin / media directors page.

Hey pigdog,
Another thing to consider is that the workspaces may just be very slow in coming up.  I had the same issue where only F1 & F8 were up.

I redid 0810 aplha2 several times - and then left it for a while and the workspaces eventually were available.

Thanks for the insights - this issue may be the root cause of lots of strange behavior with missing files and hung file servers.

I have used a touch cron job to keep usb hdds and network shares alive as well.

To set a password for root on MD:
chroot /usr/pluto/diskless/<##>
run passwd.... enter password for root
