Users / Re: UIRT repeat commands
« on: March 27, 2008, 12:09:30 pm »
I see the problem is listed in the wiki for beta-3:

Quote
Known Issues
In LinuxMCE 0710b3 this file has DOS carriage return characters at the end of its lines. Before the script can be successfully run, those characters need to be edited out using a text editor such as vi
In LinuxMCE 0710b3 running this script results in each digit of the requested channel number being blasted 4 times in sequence; thus not actually transmitting the correct channel request.
I do not think this is correct. There are indeed DOS carriage returns, but I have been using this script in the external channel change command for several weeks, without one missed channel change, and the script is unmodified on my MD. I have not seen any problems with duplicate digits. My wife watches a lot of live tv from MythTV and she has not been complaining about problems changing channels. Can someone please confirm if these are indeed issues?--Rwilson131 22:46, 15 February 2008 (PST)

It is obviously not a problem for some users, but has not been fixed in beta-4.
What are 'DOS carriage returns'? Have they been removed for beta-4?

Users / UIRT repeat commands
« on: March 26, 2008, 07:47:28 pm »
After checking through the forum, I can see that this issue has been brought up before e.g.

http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4348.0

However, I haven't found a resolution.

I have a sky box controlled by a USB UIRT. I can view my sky channels through myth tv and, when I ask it to, it attempts to change channels on my sky box.

The problem is, the UIRT sends too many commands to change channel, and so is useless!

Has anyone resolved this??

Users / Re: WIIMOTE Howto on the wiki

Now's the time to figure out how to make it "follow me" compatible, which will make it the perfect sollution for the system (in my view at least).

You will have difficulty getting "follow me" to work with the wiimote as bluetooth has quite a large range compared to the rf used with the fiire chief. The MDs will struggle to figure out which one your wiimote is closest to. There is a discussion about this on one of the earlier wiimote threads.

I still need to figure out how to simulate the nintendo "sensor bar" to improve the accuracy and control (The two cendle method is cute but it won't work for me ... ) but even placing a pencil flashlight under the TV makes it work pretty good.

You can buy a battery powered wiimote ir sensor from amazon or ebay pretty cheap. The best solution (if you are handy with electronics) is to attach a usb cable to one of these to power it. There are 'howtos' on the net about this process.

Maybe its the xorg using 100% of the cpu issue in beta4

see here http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4417.msg27627#msg27627

Hopefully everybody's system will be a bit more stable on the RC's and final release.

Users / Re: LCD working on Silverstone case
« on: March 23, 2008, 11:01:17 am »
I haven't looked at this for a while.

When I run the client It displayed the date / time and LMCE caption. Then when I played a dvd it displayed the dvd title and progression time. I tried the TV but it didn't display any info for that - I wasn't too bothered as I can have the myth lcd client for that job. I didn't try any other events like tripped sensor.

I'm guessing this driver needs a lot more work, but i'm not qualified to do it :-) I haven't seen the guy who made it on the forums for a long time neither.

It would be a start if I can get the driver loading properly on boot

Developers / Starting command-line driver from LMCE
« on: March 23, 2008, 10:54:02 am »
This is a question for the devs,

I there a way to start a driver for within LMCE automatically without having to enter KDE and run it from the command line?

I need to start a driver for a device listed in LMCE, but the driver depends on the device starting in LMCE before it is run so that entering the driver command in an init script doesn't work (because the init script is loaded before the devices in LMCE).

More specifically, I have set up a vfd display device in LMCE. I then have an external lcdproc client (see http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=3297.0) that pipes information from the vfd device in LMCE to lcdproc. If the device in LMCE hasn't started then the client exits with error.

I had a similar problem getting the wiimote to run automatically on boot without manually running the driver from a command-line.

Any suggestions on getting LMCE to run commands for drivers near the end of the boot cycle would be appreciated

Cheers

Gareth

Users / Re: i'v got a generic tv card....... can it work
« on: March 23, 2008, 10:39:45 am »
The card isn't natively supported in linuxMCE, but i'm guessing it should work setting it up in mythtv.

I think kubuntu 0710 lacks the driver for it so you have to download the video4linux drivers and install them ->

sudo apt-get install mercurial
hg clone http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb
cd v4l-dvb
sudo apt-get install ncurses-dev
sudo make menuconfig
make
sudo make install
sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/options
<then add:>
options saa7134 card=65 tuner=54
<then>
sudo make load

reboot and enter the mythtv setup from the computing tab of your orbiter; choose capture cards and see if yours is listed.

I'm guess that the remote will be difficult to set up. Best buy a seperate one, like the MCE remote and usb transceiver.

I had seen this problem on a previous install, but haven't had an issue with it on my current build. Anyway, i fixed it by -

sudo chown linuxmce <tv shows directory>

Hope this helps

Users / Re: DVD Ripping question
« on: March 22, 2008, 02:46:01 pm »
lmce uses the dvd-css ripping tool. This cannot decrypt the newer sony dvd encryption, so for the time being you have to use external rippers like the ones mentioned above

hi, any update on the 0710 final release?
I'm kinda holding off a final install untill then.

Will beta4 auto update to the final version?

it worked- thanks! Did a clean install with myth and set th tv up in myth tv after 5mins shut down. Got a feelin tho that lmce was set up wrong for my sky input - tryin to communicate through a random port.
Anyway, i pretty much got th xmltv guide sorted for uk sky tv now.
Though i think th radio times grabber for th uk is broke as it seems to crash myth when searchin for listings.
I'll post on th wiki when it's all sorted
Cheers

Users / USB-UIRT - How many av devices?
« on: March 20, 2008, 04:18:04 pm »
I want to be able to control my tv, amp and skybox using ir (as they all lack serial ports)

I have ordered a UIRT, but will this control all three av devices?

I know the UIRT has a jack to connect a third ir-emitter, but does this run the same as one of the ir emitters in the box?

You have got further than me!
I can't get any av input on my pvr to display yet.

Anyway, the sky plugin info is here --> http://www.linuxtv.org/vdrwiki/index.php/Sky-plugin

You need to download the vdr package, untar it and look in the PLUGINS folder. The sky plugin is in there. Just run 'make' (have to have g++ installed) and move the resulting driver to /etc/vdr/plugins

Thats how far I got. Dunno what can be done next to get the pvr card to stream to vdr in LMCE. Seems like the plugin was made for the kfir card

Ok, still no luck with this! Decided to do a clean install with VDR, and test the live TV in this.
I get a Sky button but no TV when I click it!

Just a quick run through of what I did -

in lmce-admin I clicked add av device from the top wizard drop down
selected SKY as manufacturer, and satellite box av and then added new device template

A screen pops up for selecting 'controlled by' devices - I dont have any means to control this so select 'unknown' and next to further screens which ask for ir codes etc..  I don't need these so skip to the end.

Then I start the orbiter back up and select setup wizard. The wizard gets to av devices and my device is there as 'Sky'. On the next screen I choose which of my pvr500 inputs is connected to Sky and which room I want to use it in. Get to the end of the wizard and restart the router.

The button 'Sky' has appeared on my orbiter, but as said above, doesn't display what is connected to my pvr.

In the lmce-admin av devices the device Sky is there and has boxes saying comm port on pc = ttyl50 and capture card port= 28 - don't know if these are correct??

I also tried setting up a generic analog camera device in much the same way as above - but with the same results!

Can anyone shed any light???

Cheers for the info, i'll try playing round some more later.

Just one thing though, from myth tv setup I only see 2 epg grabbers for the UK - do I use one of these for sky tv? or do I have to download additional grabbers? If I do use one of these, how does it know that i'm using sky and what channels my sky box can receive??
