Rock - thanks for the link...Very Helpful.

700W seems way excessive.

Never heard of the 45w chips before. Learn something everyday.

Num1 - Its up to you. Linuxmce seems better suited for a whole house solution and your looking for just one thing. If all you want is to do the "tivo" like stuff and watch a couple of movies use Myth. Myths got tons of plugins that should give you tons of added functionality. But if you are looking for home DVR - CCTV - VOIP - Automation all rolled into one check out Linuxmce.
Lighs are controlled by X10 - Z-Wave - or (maybe soon Insteon and Zigbee.)

Your hardware looks good.

Blair

It's bigger than I wanted, but for the price I couldn't pass it up.

I still need a case that will fit in a smaller area. My upstairs entertainment area has only 5" between shelves.

Blair

I should have said I am east coast US.
I didn't see any Hiper cases local. I did see that model for 50 pounds. Without shipping(which would cost a lot) it is out of my price range.
Case is very efficient looking.

I am interested in that MSI boards also but I can't find it anywhere other than in a MSI Media Live which is very nice but beyond my means.

I have been scrounging around to put together a MD.
I a trying to keep the build a cheap as possible so I can hopefully have enough soon to build another.

I was looking at this barebones as a good starting point.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856110057
I think this is the  ASUS M2NPV-VM in a ASUS case with PS.

I think I can get the Asus mobo from the WIKI (above) for around $70. I would rather get my own htpc case. The problem is keeping in under $100.00.
Almost every decent htpc I have seen runs at least $149 with a PS.

My origonal budget was:
Mobo - $70  ASUS M2NPV-VM
CPU - $70   AMD X2 4000+
Ram - $25 Generic 512MB
DVD/RW - $30 Whatever is on sale at newegg
Case - $100 - (??????????????)

I've searched countless web stores and Ebay to try to find a deal but I have not found one that fits my $. Any ideas?
I've searched silverstone, antec, thermaltake, D-Vine etc..

Regards,
Blair

Make sure you get your PPP0e info from your provider and enter it correctly in pppoeconf.
To change eth0 to ppp0 it was easier to go into web-admin and change it under the device tree-->CORE as stated by Zaerc.

Thanx again PIX.

Thank you for all the help getting this set up.

I just did a reinstall today via the DVD. It was pretty painless. I just wanted to make sure the cd install wasn't broken.

THANKS ;D

Blair

I changed eth0 to ppp0 in Pluto-Admin.
I am getting this when I view IP Adresses.

GATEWAY    0.0.0.0
DNS1    71.242.0.12
DNS2    71.250.0.12
----Addresses modified to protect my Core----------------------

I am on my core typing this, but I can't view web pages on any other computer in the LAN.

I don't know how oto designate the gateway or what address I should use.

I really don't like networking....

Installation issues / Re: Surviellance cameras/ and bt878 card
« on: October 26, 2007, 05:09:37 am »
I did the lspci before and knew the card is recognized. It shows up as Brooktree Bt878 card.

I added the interface with motion wrapper and linked it to all my cams. I gave each a port number. (1-4)

Now I get blue screens for all the cams.

The card is off ebay and is a KODICOM 4400 I believe. I remember when I used it with the zoneminder live cd I had to add something to modprobe.d.

Thanks for the help. Blue screens = better than no screens.

Or you could spend $10,000 for a proprietary system that can't do half the stuff LinuxMCE can do.

Yes.

I have read both multiple times.

I understand the concept. Just not sure how to find make a device template for the bt878 capture card.
