Installation issues / Re: No media - pnp doesn't seem to work!

In your share:
Check that LMCE did make it's folder structure
public
user1
user2
and so on

Check for files in:
public/data/video
There should not be any there, but that is where you need to put your videos (move).

Now if you had selected "make all content public" you should have seen the existing media after a cataloguing pause (5-10 minutes).

Users / Fiire. com products

I have a couple of questions about the Fiire products, but the website refers questions about their products here.
Well, I'll give it a go.

I am really considering going the "hard" way and order a Fiire station and a Chief.
There are however a few considerations since I do live in Europe (Norway to be precise).

What's the frequency band for the Fiire remote, and is it legal in Europe?
There are rules that normally will not let me use US equipment with transmitters, even some channels on wireless LAN.

I would think, but would like to be certain, that the Fiire products are compatible with 230V?

And what would be the referer reference for Paul, so that if I do buy, he get's a piece of the cake?

There are already tons of MP3 and vids on it, but I do not have accsess on it. So the wizard find the HDD but it doesn't find the Data on it... What can I do?
Did you select the option to "make all the content public" or "use LMCEs folder structure"?
And if you did are the MP3s located under the correct (For LMCE) folder?
public/data/music
user1/data/music

Or similar?

I copied my media into the appropriate folder and the LMCE core found them after about five minutes.

If I understand correctly, you are accessing a windows network share?

There are a couple of "rules" to make it automatic (atleast in my experience)

First you have to make sure the hard drive or the individual folders that you want access to are shared.

Then LMCE needs to be the HDPC server for the network, If you turned that off it woun't find anything automatically.

Then if LMCE detects the share you click on "file server" and then you get two options

"make all content public"
If you make all content public you should see the existing content after LMC is done "configuring device".

"use LMCE folder structure",
If you chose to use the LMCE structure you will, after LMCE is done "configuring device", have to move the existing material into the appropriate folder for example "/public/data/video" (you can do this from a window box).

You should now see the media (but it may take time, I think my first media showed up after about five minutes).

You forgot the "I like to moan about it, but can't be bothered to edit the wiki myself" option. :P
I have to say I agree to this one.
Also, if you do read what you are supposed to read on the Wiki, installation is quite manageable, but then again, I have used Linux for a full three or four weeks now...

Same for me, on the core, but when I did a network boot of a Dell inspiron 6000, the DVD drive in that "Media director" was seen and could be played from both boxes.
I could also rip it and play the ripped image from both as well.

I don't really know why the DVD failed to play on the new core.
On my old test install it worked prefectly (and still does).

It's a "fiire station" from http://fiire.com/
If you watch you will see that Fiire products are used troughout the demo, they donated the hardware to make sure LMCE would work on it.

I did the same
In addition I do have three other NTFS disks.
They are all accessible as far as I can tell.

One thing I did find on my install was that somehow the grub installed to another disk than I had planned.
To get my install working I just changed the HDD sequence in the bios and all my operating systems now work
Kubuntu/MCE
Win XP pro
and
Win XP pro MCE (60 day trial)
But that may not be the same issue you are having?

I'll have to try that.
I thought I did, but that may have been the RC, haven't had much time right now

The reason Bluetooth was not used is because the range is too good to work reliably with the "follow me" feature.
If you walk into the next room with an MD it is not certain that you will lose connection to the previous room, and then the system really doesn't know that you have moved.
Or if you are on the first floor, you might access the MD on ground floor.
That was the reason for the Fiire remote not using Bluetooth.

Feature requests & roadmap / File finding without being DHCP
« on: August 16, 2007, 09:35:03 am »
Hi guys

Just a thing that has really bugged me with LMCE.
Can we please get an option to just navigate to a folder on the network and mark it as a "medie folder" for LMCE?
That is how all the other portals work (Xlobby, Media portal, Itunes +++) and would be much simpler than having the LMCE as DHCP (atleast for me it would)
When LMCE detects shares on it's own it pops up several irrelevant (I know it doesn't know they are irrelevant until I tell it) hits, and it can get a bit much as I really only need it to find three specific folders on a Samba share (music, pictures and movies).

I was thinking of it to be triggered by music.  What do you mean by random animations?
"Random" as in constantly changing with no regard as to the beat of the music. A "random" would still run without music.
I would want a sound triggered one. Even the X-boX has one
