LinuxMCE / Users / Re: LMCE 10.04 Asterisk status

Hi Han Just a question on your new core when you say EeePc are you meaning the laptop, or are you referring to the Eee Box? I'm in a similar situation as yours (core died ... have to build a new one ...) and I'm also concerned about power usage, so I'm curious about the specs of your new core ... thanks in advance Marco Hi all,
because my 8.10 system is slowly breaking down on me hardware wise, I have taken on the task to install 10.04 on a brand new core system. As power usage is a major concern I have chosen a Asus EeePc to be my new core. Everything installed nicely and with some configuring I even have Mythtv up and running with IPTV.
The thing I noticed however is that the Asterisk side of things is not in a workable state. My system registers nicely to my Voip provider, but incoming calls do not get detected, Also a Generic Iphone and a Cisco 7960 can be added to the system but do not work. What I see in the Asterisk logs is that the phones cannot be found in the configuration.
Anybody able to tell what exactly the status of Asterisk under 10.04 is at the moment?
rgds
Han

LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Ultimate Goal of LinuxMCE

When Plutohome were active, there was a commercial incentive and it was easy to install and use. I didn't even know what Linux was installed underneath, you just burned the two CDs, rebooted and it just worked. Dianemo seems to have the same philosophy.
I also have been following this project since PlutoHome times (back in 2005), but actually I can't remember that it was easy to install ... Also at that time it was very hardware sensitive, and more often than not the automatic update mechanism was breacking the system. I can't count the times I had to rebuild from scratch my server because update had scr**ed the sistem up ... I can't also count the times I had to recompile kernel, drivers in order to fit Pluto in my system. So I would't blame that much on the actual system, that is beeing worked on also to squash these kind of difficulties. I agree with you that probably it won't ever be something to hand to an average Joe, but I think that the same apply to any system that deals with some internal complexity. I don't think that you expect that deploying a KNX system should be an average Joe task ... Regards Marco

Probably I exchanged with him just a couple of posts, not that much to get a picture of the man. Nevertheless these are news one would never hear. For what is worth, my deepest sympathy to Richard's family.
Ciao Richard

Hi all I'm using new proxy orbiter since some time now, and while it is working fine on any regular pc with regular browser I could not make it work on any mobile phone browser so far.
I tried it on Nokia e65 and also on BlackBerry Curve 8250), and the result is always the same: I'm able to load main screen but when it comes to push any button it won't work. Browser pointer is visible and I can move it normally around, but clicking on any button has no effect at all.
Am I doing something wrong, or am I trying to do something that is absolutely not possible?
Thanks and regards
Marco

This is just to say that yesterday I finally was able to put my hands on an Eken M002 (Android 1.6), and I installed on it the Android Touch Orbiter.
It is working like a charm, so thank you Darren for your great job.
Shortly I should be able to test it on a HTC Wildfire (cross fingers, it will be my wife's new cell), and I will report back.
Thanks again Marco

Thanks guys for your replies
@darrenmason I know very little about device categories, thanks a lot for your pointer
@posde (provided we are speaking about the same thing) I also have (rolling) aluminum shutters on windows, but they were installed without any sensor. New windows instead came out of the factory with reed contacts preinstalled. I agree with you that is preferable to have systems preventing people breaking in instead of being notified, maybe in the future will install some sensors on shutters also.

LinuxMCE / Users / some experiments with anti intrusion

Hi all
I'm doing some experiments in order to setup an anti intrusion system controlled by LMCE. Basically I have reed contacts on every windows of the house, all wiring converge to a Weeder board connected to my LMCE core.
My idea is to have a GSD (with some trivial ruby code controlling my Weeder board) with some child devices that should be set up as security sensors.
And there it comes the first trouble: when I try to add a child device to my GSD I can only add it as light device, no way to add it choosing any of the existing device template related to security sensors. This way all child devices are not appearing under any security wizard that should allow me to decide how to react when a sensor is triggered.
Sounds like the "controlled via" property of GSD is preventing me to have full choice of device template, but I have no idea on how to settle this. I've also searched the wiki, but I was not able to find any example on this. What am I doing wrong? Is there anyone that can give me some pointers on what is the proper way to set it up ?
TIA Marco

LinuxMCE / Users / Re: What devices are you running Web orbiter 2.0 on?

Hi Purps
I think the default room is the one where core/hybrid is located as the proxy orbiter is a core device.
Nevertheless it would be nice to be able to define the "starting room" for each instance of web orbiter, but so far I could not find a way to do it.
Regards. Marco

Thanks to all for your comments
I was looking for some good compromise between performances and price, now I will go to vacation and will think about it ...
Thanks again Marco
