Installation issues / Re: No External IP - I really tried...
« on: November 28, 2008, 07:01:55 pm »
Thom,

I have always used linuxmce with a single network card and never had any problems.  There is a small amount of manual work required all of which can be carried out in a couple of minutes using the admin panel.

I have been surprised that people keep stating you need two network cards to run LMCE when this is certainly not inline with my experience.

I can rebuild my hybrid and post step by step instructions if people really want to know how this is achieved.

Installation issues / Re: Adding my CM11A for lighting.

LMCE will not automatically detect the CM11A interface.

You need to use the webadmin panel and add it as an interface, select the appropriate com port and away you go  ;)

Users / Re: Another media browsing thread..

The required behaviour used to work in the early days of pluto when browsing by filename was the only option.  When they added browsing by title this broke browsing private user directory structures but some files in the root of each users private directory were visible to all users.

There were bug reports on pluto mantis regarding this but they were never resolved so I guess what should be an easy fix is obvioulsy a little more complicated than it sounds.

I will have a look through the orbiter code this week to see if I can solve this issue.

@wombiroller

As you have hinted it may be interference, I had to move my DVB-T tuner as far as possible from my graphics card as I also experienced the issues you have described albeit with a Hauppauge card.

An additional thing to do is enble spread spectrum in your bios this substantially improved the reception on my DVB card allowing me to pull in channels that were not previously available (probably caused by intereference from the PCI bus).

Users / Re: Xbox as a Media Director

@deffcon

I am running xebian (debian for xbox) on two xbox machines it takes an age to boot and startup X but it does work.

Once booted and running mythtv frontend the system is responsive and certainly usable.

I have access to all my media on the core using mythvideo.

But as already stated by Thom and myself forget any ideas of running it as a media director, it just is not going to happen with 64Mb of RAM

Have a look at extentions_pluto_dial.conf it is auto generated and contains asterisk call routing functions in relation to media directors, users and house mode etc

Has anyone setup an orginal X-box as a Media Director? If so what issues did you encounter? If not does anyone have any idea why it would be a bad idea?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox#Technical_specifications

The lack of memory is the main limiting factor, but it does perform reasonably as a mythtv frontend

« on: May 07, 2008, 07:40:14 pm »
I used to experience the green blocks issue although I don't think I  have tested since beta 1.

I have just tested using RC1 with an nvidia 6200A on i386 and can confirm that my h.264 videos do not suffer from that problem any more.

Good to hear that you have identified the problem

@skeptic

I have just checked the orbiter source code and if no mouse is plugged in then Cursor should not be visible

So unplugging the mouse before starting LMCE is another alternative  ;)

You could raise a feature request to have an option for "mouse visible" on the orbiter configuration page, although this is only specific to orbiters running on a Media Director

As it takes time to manifest itself it could be anything, but it is always checking the easy things such as

    RAM (reseat, swap),
    Temperature (from KDE using KSysGuard)
    Video Card (reseat, swap if possible)

When the system crashes do the CAPs Lock lights etc still work on the keyboard ?

@skeptic

A starting point would be to look at the database to see if there are any references to the pointer xbm files

@skeptic

The cursor files are stored in /usr/pluto/orbiter/skins/Basic/cursors/pointers_bw

To hide the cursor take a backup copy of horiz_vert.xbm and horiz_vert.xbm.msk and replace with hide.xbm and hide.xbm.msk respectively

You will probably have to do this without X Windows running so issue the following command and follow the above instructions from a command prompt

telinit 1

I believe the messages above are the result of a media scan, and may be for information only and not related to the crashes you are experiencing.

I don 't have access to LMCE at the moment so can't confirm what media type 7 refers to, maybe someone else can confirm the type of file the above messages relate to.

Is the crash ocurring when using mythtv ?

As already stated we can only help if you provide information about what you are doing when the crash occurs.

@skeptik,

I assume you are not using a mouse and therefore do not want a pointer to be displayed.

If this is the case then just replace the mouse pointer graphics with an invisible one.  I don't have access to my LMCE box at the moment but, if this is all you require then I can post specific details later.
