Users / Re: Softsqueeze: anyone has it working?
« on: September 28, 2007, 09:42:00 pm »
Could somebody explain me what is an advantage to use Softsqeeze. As I understand it needs a dedicated PC to run it.
Well one idea might be to run softsqueeze on core to output on second audio channel - so to get more audio sources on core. Maybe even more softsqueezes.. But I guess maybe some command line slim player would be better for that....

Hi,

I think that slight modification of media update daemon would easily add this feature. I also have a lot of files with "windows" like additional info (screenshot has same name, but .jpg at the end).

I vote for such feature - it's trully desired in my case... Till then it would be also convenient if editind coverarts from web-admin would allow to add screenshots for all files in same directory (currently you have to add one by one)....

Rob.

Could the software be changed so that it reads the bluetooth signal strength and you set a threshold per adapter which determines whether the MD considers the device out of range? Or is there not enough granularity in the reading?

Hi,

not sure if I remember right, but with Chris from Pluto we did a lot of discussion on follow me. The problem is that you cannot have one connection active and measure signal on other. So you just have to wait that signal strength falls below some threshold on active one and then search for new one. You actually cannot make transition like "oh there is another dongle with better signal strength". You actually do this "oh signal on this one is below threshold, I'll break up and then try to find another one". Maybe thresholds could be worked to be unique for each dongle - maybe even as device data...

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: C-bus/C-gate interface possible?
« on: September 27, 2007, 11:39:35 pm »
I'm an electrical contractor, and have a few clients interested in home automation, namely the Clipsal C-bus system.
http://www3.clipsal.com/cis/portal/

I'm failry certain it's possible to get it working using linux, but to have it working through Linux MCE would be superb.

I know of a company in Nantwich, Cheshire, selling machines using Linux MCE, who have said that they could get it working, but they want £13,000 for a backend, and £750 for each media director!
It was my disgust in their rediculous prices that has spurned me on to get a system of my own up and running on a much smaller budget.
Everyone has to make a buck, but I don't believe in ripping off my clients, so I'm looking for an alternative.

Is the standard Generic Serial Device module up to the task, or would it require something more?
It's possible some financial compensation could be sorted if required.

Have any rs232 (or TCP) protocol document ? It depends on how complex it is... GSD could be fine, but only if you have event driven communication with automation system (otherwise GSD will poll only every few seconds, which may not suit your needs). In case of my system this is not possible, so I had to write my own driver in Perl...

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Flickr Channel
« on: September 27, 2007, 01:09:32 pm »
I did try few of the tricks with flickr.

One simple is to rename flickr.pl or something like tat that retrieves new photos. But then there is a problem, how to put it your custom photos in. I managed to show one of my pictures, but couldn't figure out, whether it should be of correct size, format , filename or all of them....

I also have same problem. Files play fine, but I cannot snyhronize it. Funny is that sometimes doing the same from console gives different results but more or less ends in that maplock error....

sure, we need people like Zearc (you did a grea job and you helped me with a lot of post's i read from you)

BUT we also need people like Trout! I contributed yesterday something about EIB on the wiki and he corrected all my mistakes (my english is sooooo bad). We need people like him, they do the stuff that new users find a good wiki.

So the only thing i can say is:

THANK YOU TO Zearc and Trout!

Couldn't agree more. We need both, Wiki administrators, please be more gentle, I'm also one of the contributors who don't see such damage if some comment is left on page. I do it mostly cause it can remind me or anyone other that some part needs to be worked on....

So when using motion interface, this part don't work anymore ?

http://plutohome.com/wiki/index.php/Security_breach
It probably will. You just have to distinct two possibilities to use IP camera under LMCE :
1. is to add it as GSD device, where LMCE will directly communicate with it. Take a look at template, LMCE gets snapshot directly from web page of camera....But no motion wrappper involved in this combo
2. to add it as ip camera as child device of motion wrapper (then it will be treated same as all other analog cameras - with motion detection, recording etc....). You actually add it as analog camera but then change Configuration field as written on Wiki somewhere, so motion will know it's ip camera.

Number 1. is plug'n'play so majority of users probably get confused with it.

Maybe you can try to change few Wiki entries about this matter. it obviously is confusing...

I'm not sure if this is an option for you, but I use Sipura 3000 (FXO, FXS) and I don't have any problems with zaptel mess up in LMCE or Pluto.

Regarding

/2. Motion deosn't know what state is LMCE in. Currently this is not implemented. Feel free to contribute...

Users / Re: VFD with DVD playback ?
« on: September 23, 2007, 05:03:13 pm »
Hi,

sorry no tutorials except mentioned, no guides, no examples code. Implementing message interceptor is not so hard - maybe you can try to do it in your favourite language. Simple two TCP connections to DCERouter and that's it.

I always go with language that is easy to experiment and implement something unknown, then when you figure out mechanism, then you can code it in some faster compler (C, C++)... Basically you would want to register message interceptor for messages you decide to intercept and then simply send texts to LCD device.

Misterhouse example is doing this (although I don't know if it works) and it's in Perl...

AFAIK, currently this is not implemented. What you could do is to register message interceptor and receive events from DCERouter and then send appropriate text messages to your vfd display, then you post more info about your work on Wiki and share the code with others...  :)

You could start reading this :

Developers / Re: Child Device/Interface communications via Zwave
« on: September 23, 2007, 11:00:34 am »
Hi--

I sent this question to the Pluto ZWave developer because it's a Z-wave question, but it might be generic enough that someone else here can answer:

Thank you for your help with this.  I've been moving forward with
creating the Insteon interface.  One issue that I am unclear about is
the mechanism for a lighting device (i.e a #38 Dimmable Switch) to
create, say a Zwave job, when it receives a message from DCERouter.

For example, on the lights page of the control html page, It has 'ON'
'OFF' and '50%'.   If i understand correctly, these send a DCE Message
to the light device.  How does the light device then trigger the
creation of a Zwave Job?

Thank you for your help
Not sure how this is implemented in Zwave wrapper, but do know how it goes :
- light device  is usually child device of parent that is usually driver for some automation system. But all these child devices don't have that tick "implements DCE" , that means that all messages for child devices will be actually send to its parent and then driver activates proper job - so actually message never comes to child device....

Hi,

maybe not of much help, but I think that for some config files there are templates that are used to form real config files on each boot. So if you make changes there, they will stay till next update.... I used templates for exports.conf and for samba if I remember right...
