Hi,

I've recorded MPEG2 stream from IPTV under mythtv. I've made symlink with show title also to Video library, so I can see it in Video repository.

Now if I play this recording from inside Mythtv, it plays much more smoothly and acceptable. If I play it via LMCE and Xine player I see deinterlacing artifacts and picture is stopping for short moments....

I guess this is the difference in settings. It seems Xine has Deinterlacing Mode setting, but cannot find how to use it ?

Has anyone else spotted this Xine behavour and what are my options to solve it ?

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.

Users / User-Orbiter-Room access setup confusion...
« on: January 10, 2009, 11:40:49 am »
Hi,

I'm trying to setup restriction for certain room, where I would have those scenarios I don't want any user could control.

I'm following instructions on web pages and here http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Users and spot some confusion...

My procedure:

1. I've added Restricted room to system.

2. I want to restrict access to that room only on "Main Orbiter" in my kitchen.

3. I went into Advanced-Privacy.. - User-Orbiters and only left check for wife and me for "Main Orbiter"

4. I went into Advanced-Privacy.. - User-Rooms and only left check for wife and me for "Restricted" room

Now the problem :
- if I go into Advanced-Privacy.. -Restrict Access and look at Restricted room I see that all other users beside me and wife are granted access

ok, I go back in User-Rooms and check all other users and uncheck only wife and me (quite opposite as instructed on web page) and get back and now wife and me are granted access....

Now I wonder which one is right and which one is wrong?
Also it seems that Restrict Access displays similar info as above two options. Which one is more relevant ?

Has anyone properly implemented access restrictions in LMCE ?

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.

Hi,

I'd like to create speech announcement that would tell me number of opened doors, windows, outside temp when I leave house.

I have all those info in devices states, but now I wonder if I can put them into speech announcement via DCE command that could be used in scenario created over web-admin ?

The idea is to have some data containers in speech text, that will be replaced by actual values.

I guess this is not possible at the moment, but I wonder what would be proper way to implement this? Having some kind of central data storage where one could change/read data is probably the way to go...

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.

Users / How can I catch Device On/Off event on particular device ?
« on: January 10, 2009, 09:02:22 am »
Hi,

I'm trying to setup action when certain device changes, but I have problems. I issue this command :

Quote
08      01/10/09 8:46:30.202            Received Message from 57 (Laptop Robi / Office) to BM_light_office_00(603), type 1 id  192 Command:On, retry none, parameters: <0xb1be2b90>
08      01/10/09 8:46:30.202              Parameter 97(PK_Pipe):  <0xb1be2b90>
08      01/10/09 8:46:30.202              Parameter 98(PK_Device_Pipes):  <0xb1be2b90>

and then proper event that device has changed it's state follows - I have to catch this one :
Quote
07      01/10/09 8:46:30.262            Event #48 has no handlers <0x95bedb90>
07      01/10/09 8:46:30.263            Received Message from 603 (BM_light_office_00 / ) to -1000 (unknown / ), type 2 id 48 Event:Device On/Off, retry none, parameters: <0x95bedb90>
07      01/10/09 8:46:30.263              Parameter 10(On/Off): 1 <0x95bedb90>

But when I go into advanced->events and select On/Off event, I don't get a choice to select proper event first (PK_Event=48), I can select On/Off event parameter, but also see no possibility of setting up device ID that event came from....

Anyone already done this ?

Update: It seems to be working via Wizard-Events Handler, but I wonder why there is nowhere defined (maybe it is hidden) event type of 48 for this event ?

Bulek.

Hi,

at the start, I was quite happy with Proxy_Orbiter update that corrected Orbiter behavior and made it trully live (with constant periodic refreshments)...

But after some time those refreshments are becoming a problem, cause they take over focus all the time, even when :
- you're trying to dial a number (after 2-3 digits, ORbiter takes focus and further digit presses are ignored)
- you're using other xml services

It seems like you cannot disable such behavour (to say for instance, from now on, I don't want Orbiter to be refreshing) - I guess this is also impossible to do...

For now I reverted back Proxy_Orbiter, will see if this will make my two ciscos more stable...

Any similar experience ?

If I may express a wish, it would be fine if one could select "live" mode on device basis...

Bulek.

Users / Update Media Daemon: eats cpu despite being disabled
« on: December 26, 2008, 11:22:28 am »
Hi,

I spot weird behaviour of update media daemon. In web-admin->Files & Media -> Media Files Sync I have unticked media update daemon, but after few rebots I still notice it taking cpu:

Hi,

I've gained a bunch of friends and we all agreed to watch some older funny movies. They all reside on Core (internal HDD), MD is diskless client reading over nfs. I got two freezes (and then have used my windows laptop to show the movie till the end), the first one seems to be nfs related.

HAve you got any similar or other problems with NFS ? Is it stable for you ? What could be the cause of so frequent freezes.... ?

1. it seems that nfs server dies for some time and then media player implementation is not so robust that it would handle nfs shortages more gracefully. MD hardlocked, so only reboot of the whole system could be applied:

Hi,

I've done successfully some enhancements in Climate Plugin. Now you gain more control what is displayed on floorplan :
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Climate_Plugin#Description_of_enhanced_710_plugin_and_ability_to_control_displayed_info_on_floorplans

Now I'd like to do something similar also for other plugins, Lighting being the first in focus.... But the problem is that currently nothing is shown for lighting devices on lighting floorplan. Although it seems that lighting plugin is setting OSD string correctly (content of that string determines info displayed on floorplan) - but nothing is displayed. I'm trying to find the cause, but also Orbiter plugin seems to do nothing special about it...

So I suspect that something is maybe wrong even on higher level (maybe lighting devices as design objects don't have a text display defined?) ?

I'd kindly ask if Tschak, or anyone more familiar with "Designer's" side of LMCE can check the things out.

Basic question is: if lighting device has a state of "ON/100" why nothing is displayed on floorplan beside icon ?

If we find the cause of problem, maybe it wouldn't be bad to check also for other plugins (beside Climate that already works quite well)...

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.

Developers / Can I use patternmatching lib in c++ under LMCE ?
« on: December 15, 2008, 04:12:13 pm »
Hi,

I'm working on Climate plugin, I think I'm on the right track of implementing system that would give a lot of freedom in determining what is displayed on floorplans for certain devices (see Climate plugin thread on same forum).

For implementation I need some basic pattern matching and substitute features. In c++ it seems that Boost.regex is the answer :
http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2006/04/06/boostregex.html?page=1

Can I use that or are there any concerns about usage of this additional library?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

I've started 2 threads about enhancing features of Lighting and Climate plugins regarding support for devices of same category that are shown on floorplans... But changing both plugins would be fairly easy, if we had sufficient choice different types of devices in both categories.

What we need as new floorplan type objects in my opinion:
- brightness sensor device in Lighting category (so we can show for instance brightness value on floorplan)
- on/off output and on/off input Climate device (similar to light switch as output and other digital input sensors - door,window,etc...)

I would kindly ask some designer to help us with adding icons to LMCE at this moment, so we can increase number of floorplan supported devices...This is I guess pretty simple job, cause icons are in one color  (you can find them in
Code: [Select]
/usr/pluto/orbiter/skins/Basic/Icons/map/
)

I'd also kindly ask if anyone (I think Tschak or JonDecker - they already know what needs to  be done) to add those icons as part of new floorplan objects, so they can be used in plugins code...

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.

Developers / Digging into Lighting plugin
« on: December 02, 2008, 03:55:08 pm »
Hi,

following Climate plugin, here's a thread about lighting plugin.

I've started basic wiki page here :

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Lighting_Plugin

I currently spot few possibilities for enhancements that I plan to do, but would like to have some discussion on this matter first:

1. it seems that group of commands that will be displayed on Orbiter's floorplans is determined by floorplan object type and not by type of device (usually determined by Template or Category). In consequence, dimmable controls are displayed on floorplans regardless being a light dimmable device or light on/off device by template. There are at least two ways out of this, but I'm not sure what is the right thing to do to solve this...

2. it seems that gray color is not used for dimmed lights

3. discussion: it seems that we have only light switches and not correct LIGHT devices (distinction is that switch goes to new state regardles of actual state). In my experience those switch devices can be also used as normal devices (by sending proper state events, so they will act accordingly to real state), but somewhere in the future we will have to find a clean solution to this matter...

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

since I'm trying to support quite some different devices in my home, I'd also like to interact with them properly through floorplans on Orbiters...

I currently spot some inconsintencies and also unifinished features in floorplan devices, so I'm starting my adventure into Climate and Lighting plugins (cause they suit my newbie knowledge of programming). Thread and wiki page for lighting plugin will follow... Now back to Climate Plugin.

I've started wiki page with highlights of code and behaviour and also my comments, my opinions what is probably not done ok (I could be easily missing something - I hope "senior developers" will correct me where necessary)...

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Climate_Plugin

I'd be happy to see some discussion on this matter. I propose few quite enhancements (so less info is displayed for simple sensors and also display of devices in colors showing their state is better supported). I'm curious if they make sense....

I plan to try to make those enhancements, but would like to get some supervision from developers and also discussion about this matter, so we can clear out how the things regarding climate devices are supposed to be...

I also think that some discussion would be good on support for Blinds,Drapes and Shutter devices. I guess they belong to this category, but currently they don't seem to be supported at all. I guess displayed dimmed light controls is a solution for a start...

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.

Hi,

I've noticed that Bug report link on LMCE site brings up new TRAC interface.

Does anyone have any more info on this new bug reporting system ? What happend to the old one ?

Also, some time ago, when someone (I think JonDecker?) fixed sqlcvs server there was a call to users to enter new contributed templates through sqlcvs. I think quite some templates were contributed (I'm among those) and would kindly ask if anyone can give more info about current status of those contributions and if they will be entered in new release ?

I found one of those threads :
http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5758.0

I'm aware of Posde's exporter, I'd just like to clear out whether those contributions are in there and will be handled or should we make another effort to save them and enter somehow in new release ?

Is it possible to use sqlcvs right now ? What are our options if we would like to contribute to content of  main database.

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.

Hi,

I'm reading this wiki page

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Data_Provider_Catalog_Plugin

and it really shows some interesting features of web interface of Data_Provider_Catalog_Plugin, but URLs mentioned on wiki page are not working for me. Is it working for you ? I have lmce 710 release...

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.
