Developers / Contributing device templates and other changes into "710"

Hi,

I've made pretty complete GSD template for Marantz SR line of rs232 audio receivers. If I remember right, there is alyways a headache on upgrading LMCE if you have local changes in your sql database. Also, I'd like to enahnce it, so I'm curious if somehow this one can enter new 710 version of LMCE...

I also have implemented pretty complete support for other automation devices (blinds, drapes, thermostats, etc....) and have made some simple changes on their templates (so for instance they can be shown on floorplan, controlable from home automation interfaces, etc....) that I'd also like to contribute....

With my previous experience with Pluto, I ended up having local changes not entered into main database for over a year - so I'd like not to repeat this with LMCE...

Maybe I can also make sql dump and someone can review changes....

Please give me advice, what to do I(either to contribute now, or wait for release and contribute after that...) ?

Users / What LMCE features are currently supported on Squeezebox (speech announcements)?

Hi,

I'm about to purchase Squeezebox, but I'm not sure what features are exactly supported under LMCE at the moment ...

I know it behaves like audio media player, but I wonder if speech TTS announcements can also be played on it ?

I also have read that squeezeboxes can be synced between themselves, and same for Xine players - but can squeezebox be in sync with Xine ?

Hi,

I have iptv system at home with ISP and amino settopbox. Recently, support for recieving ip tv channels has been added to mythtv (in shape of Freebox TV addition). With this one I can easily receive iptv streams directly and also record them and use them as normal channels received over analog antenna input on my pvr500...

Since we've got experienced mythtv developer in our community (Daniel).... Any chance that this functionality will be in 710 release ?

Feature requests & roadmap / Extending customized flickr screensaver to photo viewer ?

Hi,

we now have ability to customize photo screen saver to show pictures from particular directory. Is it hard to extend it to act like a photo viewer that can be started from media browser on Orbiter as well ? I guess we need a way to intercept media browser messages and then start photo screen saver with files that are currently selected...

Developers / Complete rewrite of template for Marantz Audio receivers

Hi,

I've already contributed template for Marantz SR5600 audio receivers (don't know for sure, but the same template could probably be easily used also on other models from Marantz that have rs232 connector). But since it didn't get into Pluto's main database, I've decided to rewrite it completely for the LMCE system. The whole procedure is currently being updated on Wiki page : http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Marantz_SR5600


But I have a problem :

- when I try to add MEdia scnearios for it, it's painted in red and beside text appears :

Devices in red do not have any media types set on the A/V Properties page or they are not assigned to this entertain area.

and I cannot add any media scenario for that device. It has assigned room and EA, so I really have no clue what is wrong...

Any ideas ?


- I wonder if I can contribute template and how to do it to main LMCE database, so others will be also able to use it ? I'm interested in this, cause very shortly, template for LG LCD TVs and Plasmas will follow...

Developers / Audio only Xine player for lmce

Hi,

let me introduce the idea I'm thinking and working on for a long time. In my new house, Core is used also as main Whole house audio source and I think that in this case it's much cheaper to use more sound cards (or one with multiple stereo outputs) so I can play for instance 4 independent stereo channels. Patching existing Xine player is not so hard (I've done this already back in Pluto system, but the patch didn't get into codebase). Now I'm willing to repeat this work, cause I think that this would be usefull also for others...

Here's my plan:
- I'd like to use Video Setting parameter - so if it is set to none, than Xine player will be use only as audio player (it won't have it's own window, etc...)
- I'll extend Audio settings parameter so user can specify on which alsa device:channel output will go

- there is one major problem that was present in Pluto and probably still exists in LMCE. There is no simple way to add such player to setup, to be able to control it from Orbiters - currently dirty and inefficient workaround is possible - you create "dummy" MD and then use ID from that MD as ID of our player.

To make long story short, solution we need to have some general way is ability to of adding general media players to LMCE system. Currently exactly same functionality is already implemented for Squeezebox players. When you add them, then you are asked for where is your device located and then all needed media scenarios are created so you can start using device right away.... But I suspect this is the work of particular plugin for those devices, cause nothing similar could be repeated for any other media player. For instance, it would be nice if I start Xine player that connects to DCERouter for the first time, same sequence of device addition could be started and Xine player could be used right away...

But back to my plan. Under Pluto, one could pull down sources, compiles some minimal amount of them, recode and compile Xine player and binary could be added to working system to be tested. Are we on the same level with LMCE now ?
Can we start contributing code ?

I'd love to hear your opinions... There is also some similar work done with Jack audio server, but not sure if this is the same, similar or different thing...

Users / Squeezebox vs Roku Sound bridge under LMCE

Hi,

I'm considering of buying one of audio network players... Squeezebox is now sold under Logitech brand and it seems quite holding high price. It has great functionality, but....

I also see Roku Soundbridge as one of cheaper alternatives, but I wonder if there is any difference in functionality, particularly under LMCE ?

Also I wonder if any kind of menus for rest of house devices could be offered on those devices, so they can be used as "simple text Orbiters". Anyone tried to implement this ?

Users / Do we have any device (template) that shows on Orbiter Floorplan with ON/OFF ?

Hi,

I need to display more devices on floorplan beside those that are currently supported  - and I'd vote for extending that support, cause currently only few devices are supported that can be shown on floorplan.

I'm desperately looking for a way to display device with simple On and Off controls on floorplan. AFAIK, we are all using workaround with light switch (you declare light switch, choose another icon, etc...), but all such devices display only in Lighting floorplan.

Does anyone know how to workaround that ? For instance to show device on Climate floorplan with simple On Off commands shown on left column ?

Users / Why do I have to enter username/password on public Samba share ?

Hi,

I have to enter username/password each time to access public directory shared over Samba.

Is this normal behaviour ? The problem is that Windows IMHO let you to have only 1 shared disk connected with distinct password....

Users / How to share printer to LAN via samba ?

Hi,

I wonder if anyone tried to share printer from Core or Hybrid. I know it's not so difficult to edit smb.conf, but I'm afraid that LMCE will overwrite those changes...

Some time ago there was discussion on this problem in more general way : how to allow users to add different things to configuration files and let those additions stay in there even after regeneration... Anyone has recent knowledge on this one ?

Installation issues / No automatic detection of added drive

Hi,

I've put brand new drive into Hybrid and it seems like not being detected plug'n'play by LMCE.

Should it be formatted prior detection by LMCE ?

Any workaround for newbie users - they probably won't know how to format drive.... (me included, although I'll search for info on Internet)....

I also believe that there will be distinction in path that some media resides in this drive (probably only in Filename mode, right?) ... Do I have any other option (like mounting another drive as for instance /home/public/data/audio).... I remember I tried this under Pluto some time ago, but then there was a problem, cause NFS share wouldn't share those symlinks, so it took quite some hacking to fix it. and it was broken after every upgrade....

Any elegant solution ?

Installation issues / Using pppoe on external network card - problems ...

Hi,

I'm trying to setup ADSL access on "external" network interface of 2 nic setup - Hybrid.

I'm following Wiki pages on this :

but it doesn't work for me... The most I get with manual setup that Hybrid connects to network, but none of local computers.... I have changed to other ip local adresses and maybe this caused this mixup.

I'd kindly ask for some guidance, since I don't know much about routing tables, etc..
1. how to check and fix routing table on hybrid ? Can anyone explain it a bit ?

2. is it necessary to do manual work to establish pppoe connection on boot ? Pppoeconf asks user if I want to have this feature, but have no clue if it works. Anyone with experience in this field ?

When we establish proper procedure, I guess ADSL support can be easily be added to LMCE to allow users in Europe to use most common Internet access type.

Hi,

I'm trying as much as I can to help to get LMCE on the feet (not much on codebase but on other things). I also very much appreciate efforts of guys that are doing major job, so don't get my question wrong. it just keeps crossing my mind, and I think it has some simple explanation.

How does it come that we have a release out, but we don't have build process for it ? Has some machine crashed ?

Developers / Any Perl developer around ? Making generic framework for LMCE-Perl integration..

Hi,

I've written some mock up code for device driver in Perl. Since I'm lousy Perl programmer, I'd kindly ask if there is anyone there more familiar with Perl.

I'd like to help with implementation of some generic Perl modules that would ease connection with LMCE, either in a sense of device driver or event handler. Maybe some compatibility with Misterhouse wouldn't be bad.

I thought that maybe Perl:Poe would b efine place to start. I can contribute "proof of concept code" and all my knowledge of LMCE's internals, but would ask for some help in getting this implemented in clean, proper Perl way....

Anyone ?

Installation issues / Nokia N800 Orbiter: missing /usr/pluto/bin/mysql_wrapper

Hi,


I've brand new N800 with latest image of 2007 already flashed. I've added mentioned repositories and installed all dependencies that were demanded, but Orbiter just hangs and returns back on start. I've started it from xterm and I see following error :

- sh: /usr/pluto/bin/mysql_wrapper: not found

Any idea where this might be coming from? I must be missing some package that is also needed..
