Users / Autoupgrade option for LMCD -any plans for 710 ?
« on: April 24, 2008, 12:01:24 pm »
Hi,

I have pretty complex system that I use in new house. So I'm always in fear that I'll loose a lot of things when doing install with keep settings on new version... I liked Pluto Autoupgrade feature where it went more or less smoothly on each release....

Are there any plans about this feature and 710 release? I remember someone mentioned that 710 beta will already be able to autoupgrade to following releases - but it seems this is not the case....

Anyway, thanks for great efforts to everyone on this project...

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.

Hi,

I'd like to use external ip also from local LAN (so I don't have to keep more profiles for Orbiter, or sip softphons ,etc..)... But it seems that if I use external IP from LAN, ORbiter and sip softphone cannot register.... I remember that this was working under Pluto... But I have also slightly changed my network setup (before it was just ADSL modem redirecting everything to my core, now I have Sagem Gateway, but I have set it up to forward port 3450 to external card on Core)....

Anyone with more insight ? How do you cope with this problem ?

Thanks in advance,

Bulek.

Hi,

this question bugs me for some time now... I'm one that have quite large collection of personal videos, recorded movies from tv, etc... I and I had all metadata for those files already in for some other systems (Freevo, Windows HTPC apps)... etc.... As example: now I have to play each video file under UI2 and press Make Thumbnail button and then confirm ... Under Freevo, system made random screenshots from files by himself if they were not already present....

There are also some pretty usable windows applications that help you retrieve metadata in bulk way (for groups of files at once).
For instance, there is quite well accepted way of having screenshots for movies in files with same name, just .png extension. And also there are quite common files like folder.png that gives coverart for whole directory, etc...

In this situation I wonder if it's really necessary to use id3 files. It also is a pity that id3 are binary files, so not easily editable with external apps... For instance Freevo saved all those info in text, easy readable files. Also there is an option of having a text file in each directory that allows different options in showing files in that directory. For instance in video surveillance directory, one would want reverse time ordering of recordings (so latest is shown first)... A lot of troubles were solved in this pretty easy and transparent way...

Am I making any sense ? What I'd vote for is to use one of well known and spread ways to storing/handling metadata...

Thanks in advance,

Users / Can I make Xine player to stop after playing all files...
« on: April 10, 2008, 04:58:20 pm »
Hi,

if put 1 audio file to be played by Xine player on certain MD. But it seems that it cycles all over again on this file instead of finishing play.

Can I somehow force him to stop after played all desired files ?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

since I have pretty complex setup, I'd like to confirm if this problem happens only to me or is general in 710b4.

1. Play some audio playlist (probably video too)
2. incoming call comes to onscreen Orbiter and ends media, so after call you cannot continue with media

Can anyone confirm this behaviour ?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

I bought 7970 and they mostly sell without power adapter. These units have POE (Power Over Ethernet), but have read somewhere that Cisco has its own modified way of POE and that under standard POE, screen will be darker... Is this true ? How do you power your Cisco ?

What would be easiest way to power Cisco 7970 (POE - any adapters for this, any generic power supplies....) ?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

I'm slowly setting my telephony features in new home... I had a working setup under 704, but it seems that freepbx automatic setup of call routing is broken under 710b4. It's reported as a known issue.

when I compared working 704 with non-working 710 it seems that whole file extensions_pluto_dial.conf is missing (and all call routing and customization go into this file).

Has anyone fixed this problem ? I've tried to add emplty file but it didn't get updated on config change, so problem is a bit more demanding..

Can anyone confirm that file is missing ?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

I've written device driver for my home automation system in Perl (and learned a lot about LMCE). But currently have problems ,cause my device driver doesn't survive DCERouter reload - it actually dies few minutes after reload...

Can I conclude from DCERouter's log what caused ending of tcp connection ?

Anyone with more experiences ?

Hi,

I have older Epia mobo (ME6000) that is used only as audio source for whole-house audio and therefore is used as headless MD, only for remote controlled audio play... But I spot weird behaviour. If I disconect LCD monitor, then it won't boot properly (it says "cannot connect to X...").

I've read few entries about monitor detection to be disabled, but I'm not sure if this is proper cure and how to do this most efficient and easy under lmce ?

Thanks in advance,

Users / Few basic questions about creating real-life scenarios
« on: March 21, 2008, 09:04:38 am »
Hi,

I'm creating first few scenarios in my new house and in a lack of any experience have few basic questions how to :

- create scenario to play some music for X mins ...

- do something when bluetooth phone appears in range (Wiki talks about bluetooth phone coming/going but couldn't find it on preselectable pull down menu....) ?

- can I run another scenario from new scenario ?

- create scenario, where actions appear over time (for instance wake up: start slowly music, after 5 mins slowly come up with lights, after 10mins start coffe machine, then tell weather forecast, etc....) ?

- when I have wake up scenario - how to easily setup wake up time on daily basis (from Orbiter maybe) ?

- can I schedule power down of core at night ? (I can easily make him wake up in the morning by BIOS)...

- it's mentioned that Ruby can be used for event handling. Anyone tried that ?

Any advices ?

I'd also like to hear about popular scenarios you're using at your homes....

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.

Hi,

I'm a bit experimenting with my network settings and it seems like I have to run A/V wizard on each MD after I save network settings (or something similar that I do frequently these days)...

Is this behaviour really connected to network configuration or am I doing something else ?
What causes A/V wizard to be started on MD ?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

I'm trying to clear out behaviour of concpet of audio and video pipes. They are quite useful, but I'm banging my head against a problem, where I'm trynig to write multi zone support for Marantz sr5600 audio receiver (it has 2 output zones if configured in multiroom mode)...

In other related thread on making proper template, Aaron suggested Yamaha receiver GSD that is quite similar. I'm following that example, but can't get it work in that part, where GSD code is trying to determine from which zone command is coming (this is crucial, cause Marantz has different serial commands for main or second output zone - so parent has to distinguish between same commands but coming from different audio zones).

Yamaha template attacks this problem with declaring second embedded child device being generic audio zone - you just put it into that room where you have secondary speakers. Then I did pipe connection to that audio device from MD in that room. Then I also connected that embedded audio zone device to CD input of receiver (that's where the physical line out from MD goes into Receiver).

Now when I start play on that secondary MD, I get this in DCERouter's log :

and I see some behaviour I'm not sure is consistent with the concept of audio pipe. The whole idea of pipes is about connected devices. So when you start playing something on MD, command On propagates to all connnected devices (amplifiers, TV, and similar). That's probably ok, the problem is that maybe you cannot determin from where did your command come, if media plugin is the sender of all commands to devices on audio pipe... Shouldn't this be changed ?

So my Marantz receiver gets all those commands but not from same source :
Quote
20-03-2008  11:07:52   Determine zone for command : 1
20-03-2008  11:07:52   Sending Command: @MSP:2

20-03-2008  11:07:52   Got from Marantz: @MSP:2
20-03-2008  11:07:54   Determine zone for command : 0
20-03-2008  11:07:54   Sending Command: @SRC:C

First command turns secondary speakers on, second one is power on for receiver (if not already on) and third is input selection. My GSD code (same as that one in Yamaha template) decides from where those commands are coming. And first command On is propagated correctly since Marantz receives it from its child device (that is from embedded audio zone device), but same doesn't happen for other two commands (Media plugin sends them directly to parent Marantz device- and therefore disregards previous destination of commands - I guess commands should go from Media plugin to embedded audio zone device and then it could be parsed correctly with the GSD code in parent device)....

Am I making any sense or am I missing something ? Any opinion would be welcome...

Thanks in advance,

Bulek.

Hi,

I'm subscribed to some interesting channels for video and audio podcasts. Currently I download them with iTunes to laptop and transfer them to LMCE Core... Since Core is running 24 hours a day, it would be much more convenient to schedule podcasts download at night.

Any convenient way to setup automatic download of subscribed podcast video and audio files under LMCE (Kubuntu) ?

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.

Hi,

it seems that LMCE doesn't recognize them as playable (have them in directory, but they are not shown in media browser)...

Is this only LMCE limitation or Xine ?

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.
