Users / Re: Best Mini-ITX board for Linux MCE

This store is specialized in the boards. If you keep using LinuxMCE I would suggest to buy an Intel based ITX-board because it has better hardware support. As I understand from reading in the forums there are still some (big) issues with VIA-drivers.

Why not use cards with dual tuners like the hauppauge PVR-500? How many PCI slots do you have and how many do you need? Maybe getting an other MB with more PCI-slots could help and would be cheaper sollution.

I run 2 MD's that are i386 architecture but they get recognized and installed as AMD64 architecture (both with Nvidia graphicd card). I never had any real problems that i thought could be related to this issue so I always left it as it is. But I also have the green blocks mentioned above and also subtitles wouldn't display on one of the MD's. I resolved these 2 problems by turning of OpenGL. I use UI2 with alpha blending and now subs are displayed correctly and the green blocks are gone. Maybe you can try this.

« on: April 15, 2008, 07:07:30 pm »
I have a MD in my kitchen that uses wireless PXE. I solved this bij placing a client bridge and connecting this with a cable to my MD. It works pretty good, it only takes a lot longer to boot the MD. Playing Divx or DVD's is no problem but when I try HD (720) it sometimes gets in trouble. And when I turn on my microwave the connection gets lost all together. For me this is a temporary sollution, I will be switching to cabled network as soon as I have time to put in place.

I changed the architecture of one of my MD's via the Admin page and did a rebuild of the image. When I booted it afterwards the AV-wizard ran again but I can not see or notice any difference. Because everything is working fine I'm not worried but find it hard to believe mij 32-bit system can handel all the 64-bit intructions. I know nothing about programming so maybe that's why I don't understand it.

Ok I experimented some more and now I'm totally lost. I hav 1 core PC en two Diskless MD's. The 2 MD's have the same hardware configuration except the graphics cards are both NVidia but other series. One MD is connected to a TV (we'll call it MD1) the other one to a LCD-monitor (we'll call it MD2). Originally MD2 uses the Static Interface (No opengl, althoug configured on the Admin webpage) and MD1 uses UI2 (with opengl). As mensioned above MD2 displays subtitles and MD1 doesn't. So I started experimenting with the UI. I changed the UI on MD1 to the static interface but still no subs. So after that I connected a LCD-monitor to MD1 and confiigured it the same as MD1. Again no subs. I even checked the Xine setting on the Admin website for both MD's and they are exactly the same. I realy have no idea what is the problem. Any help would be very welcome.

Thx

I have 1 Core and 2 MD's and they are all I386. But on the admin page the MD's are displayed as AMD64. All seems to work just fine so I never tried to change it to I386. Maybe I'll give it a try and see what happens. Anyone else got the same 'problem'?

I've noticed that I only have working subtitles (srt and dvd) on the orbitters that use the normal interface. On the orbitters that use alpha blending ther are no subs displayed. anyone else got the same?

Hi Thingie,

Have a look at the names of the srt-files...

If your avi file is:

movie.avi

Then your srt-file should be named:

movie.avi.srt (and not movie.srt)

Works great with my beta4, so it should work for u 2

Reint.

Hey Reint

Thx for the tip, for the AVI's I have it works fine when I rename te srt-files as you said. But sadley enough it doesn't work for the mkv-files I have. All my HD content is mkv and here it doesn't work. Also DVD's keep giving probs when it comes to subtitles At least there is some progress for wich I'm greatfull. Let's hope they get the subtitle function working as it should.

I read in the release notes that Beta 4 has subtitles for Xine enabled but it works even worse then before. Embedded subtitles in an mkv or avi container still aren't displayed and srt-files with the same name as the avi and in the same folder aren't loaded. When I play a dvd sometimes the subtitles work and sometimes they don't. I have to activate the subtitles in the menu of the dvd and then they are displayed (sometimes). I don't know how to fix this problem. It would be nice to have a nice working subtitle function in the final release.

One half of the house is going to be connected to the hybrid through a switch (I ordered today, together with lots of other stuff, including a new cpu, motherboard, 3D card, case, ... I just wanted to throw that in somewhere :)) but the other half will HAVE to be connected to the real router (as will all the wifi stuff) and I don't want them to be on different subnets because there are a few MDs among them..

Can you pls explain why you would use this setup. Just to understand better what you want to do.

« on: January 31, 2008, 09:48:26 pm »
I've been using LinuxMce for some time now and did a new clean install of the 7.10 Beta3. One Of the first pleasent surprises after the new install was to see that the thumbnails of my media looked a lot better now. Before you couldn't even read the title on the cover. Now its all very clear and nice looking resolution. But when I ad new media files the tumbnails of these new files look the same as before. Don't know why this is. Any ideas?

Thx Thingie
