Installation issues / Adding the Via Unichrome Pro drivers
« on: September 17, 2007, 08:20:06 am »
The instructions for building the Unichrome Pro Via drivers are available from the url below... its what we used to build them;

http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=25&CatID=2580&SubCatID=184

You need the v0.83 version of the install guide and the Kernel sources XORG40072_20061226c version.

Once you have built the Unichrome Pro drivers you can use the install script to add them to any MD (you can build them on the Core or any other Kbuntu machine running the correct kernel - it does not have to be a Via machine). We usually add them during the first real boot of a new MD at the point where the AVwizard tries to run but can't start X (the display will continually loop in the console - going blank for a few secs each time). Just ssh into the MD and run the installer from the console choosing the appropriate options for your Via hardare etc. After about 60 secs the AVwizard will spring to lif and display its first screen... this is an indication that the drivers have installed cleanly.

Thats all there is too it.

Enjoy!

Users / Flickr images not appearing on Core/Hybrid
« on: September 10, 2007, 06:52:48 pm »
Anyone else not getting any images displayed in the screensaver of their Hybrids Orbiter? There are images in the Flickr directory for each day... and we see them on the MD's. Any ideas on this?

Developers / Updating UpdateMedia
« on: September 05, 2007, 05:49:35 pm »
Is anyone interested in updating UpdateMedia so that it stores uses the standard id3 tags instead of user defined ones?

If we rip audio media in lmce-0704 we get standard title, artist & album id3 tags embedded into the mp3 files which is great. However we dont get the track tag (contains the track no. from the original CD) or year or genre tags. So adding these to UpdateMedia so that they are written back into the mp3 file would improve the 'friendliness' of the ripped files enormously when using those files with iTunes or other media playback software for example.

UpdateMedia is also currently inserting the Track art image back into a User Defined Tag inside each mp3 file - instead of using the standard picture tag. Because of this other software cannot see these embedded track images inside lmce-0704 ripped tracks. Again iTunes is an example of this.

Would anyone like to get involved in updating UpdateMedia to make it more compatible in terms of how and where it stores id3 tage data?

Developers / Managing Memory Card, USB Camera & other external content
« on: September 02, 2007, 08:00:25 am »
Is anyone looking at how content stored on external devices like memory card, Digital Cameras and other external storage is imported into the lmce system?

At present if I insert a memory card from a camera into a connected card reader lmce treats it as an external usb 'drive' - there is no option to copy this content onto the Core or other managed storage on the lmce managed LAN for permanent storage. My thinking is that the scripts that auto detect usb storage devices need to be extended to allow the user to have the option to copy the content from the external device to storage managed by the lmce core.

Anyone else looking at this or have some ideas as to how this should work?
