Right finally got a second to try the stuff put.

When i try to run ripDiskWrapper.sh from the terminal using:

/usr/pluto/bin/ripDiskWrapper.sh

I get the following error:

/usr/plutp/bin/Config_Ops.sh: line 209: ulimit: open files: cannot modify limit: Operation not permitted

then under that I get:

/usr/pluto/bin/ripDiskWrapper.sh <Disk_Drive device id> <job id> ................

I think these are the usage commands for ripDiskWrapper.sh im not entirely sure.

Does this make sense to anyone?

Im not sure what I should specify for the usage commands though to be honest being a bit of a new person to the LinuxMCE scene.

Any further help on this matter would be great as I have bought a new HD for my music and its just sitting there waiting for me to use:)

Thanks in advance.

« on: April 27, 2007, 11:14:09 am »
Hi all,

Im successfully using my LinuxMCE box now which is great. Its only in UI1 at the moment but I still think it rocks!!

I have however come up with a problem. I am unable to rip and audio CD to MP3 or whatever format it rips to.

It goes through the motions when i click "copy cd" such as where I want to save it to but then a message comes up stating that "Ripping Failed" with no other information as to why this has happened.

I cant eject the CD either after I do this either which forces me to reset the machine.

I see that i need to go into a terminal from somewhere to maybe try debug the cd ripping error. I saw a similar post about dvds and this error. However im not sure how to get into the terminal from my LinuxMCE box? Or could I ssh in from another machine would this work??

So to sum up:

1) My CD Ripping error "Ripping Failed"
2) Ejecting a CD after this error
3) Finding the Terminal

Thanks in advance

Right i decided to reinstall Ubuntu and then LinuxMCE it all seemed to go ok but when I restarted after LinuxMCE had finished installing like it said i see the Ubuntu splash screen load up and then i get the message from my monitor

"Frequency out of Range"
I think the monitors max refresh rate is 75hz

Im not too sure where to fix this as im pretty new to Ubuntu and LinuxMCE

Im sure its something and nothing but im not very clued up.

Is there a config program i run? Is it the one in the preivous post?

PS i now have the nvidia gfx card installed.

Cheers again

I will try the Nvidia card later today.

Is it going to cause lots of problems changing over? Im tempted to do another fresh install of it all with the Nvidia card in the machine.

What do you think?

May be easier in the long run.

Cheers for helping again

Ahh good point I have an ATi 9550 256mb of ram installed on the system. I may be able to put a Nvidia one in but its only something like a 5250 or something. I remember it wasn't very good on the XP system I used it on.

Im not sure if i installed any drivers for the ATi card. It was a fresh system i installed it in so im guessing unless Ubuntu or LinuxMCE does there are no drivers installed for the card.

Would this give a problem?

Thanks for the reply.

OK i set it to UI1 and i can now see the menu headings text however when I hover over a menu item the menu pops up but its totally black its just a black box. Its kind of running slow too. I thought my machine P4 3.0ghz with HT and 512mb of ram would of been able to handle the basic settings.

Any ideas why the menus are all in black? I can really select anything either. There is the odd flicker of text in the menu but then it vanishes. Tried looking in the forums but nothing quite like this.

Anyone got any ideas?

Always grateful

Right after a while the words on the screen came back, it was a little slow so i decided to reset and see if it would work normally.

After the reset the words were all blurred and not readable and the menus dont appear on when the mouse hovers over.

Any further ideas? Or is more info needed?

Please reply.

Hi I recently got linuxMCE installed.

I got it setup ok and ran the setup of the media director from another machine. I ran a dvd and it worked ok out of the box but i accidently pulled the power cord.

Now however the fonts on the main screen do not appear clear at all and the pictures on the screen saver do no move smoothly. Im wondering if i selected too higher setting for the UI i think it was the middle one.

Is there a way to set it to the lowest gfx settings?

Or try debug what is happening?

Thanks in advance im soooooo excited its nearly on there!!!

I used k3b and verified it using this too.

Worked a treat just have other issues to sort out now such as the text not appearing properly on the screen and the menus not working

It all did work but now it suddenly doesn't

Will search the forums and create a new topic if it doesn't work out.

Yeah the burning of the ISO fixed it.

Sadly it was only a small HD in the machine so im going to have to get a bigger drive and then try again.

At least its getting there now.

Cheers for all the help
