Installation issues / My own install logging
« on: July 27, 2007, 03:24:26 pm »
I'll be logging my installation and my toughts as I install the mce...

- Installed kubuntu
- Has already the .deb on my desktop, taken out previously from the iso's I downloaded using kiso
- Installed the .deb
- Tryed to run the installer from the icon that showed up, but nothing happened
PROBLEM: the problem here is that the installer calls gksu, which does not exist in kubuntu by default, but remember....we can't update anything at this momemt
Workaroud: in the command line "sudo /usr/share/mce-installer/mce-installer.sh"
- Selected to be a media player too...
- Seems good... installing the nvidia proprietary drivers now...
- Outch...a restart...should be warning the user that this would happen. The user should be told to start the installation again, or the installer should start automatically(**I'm a pain in the....**). Oh well, but the drivers are working.....I guess. Since I'm a noobie I don't really know if they got installed. Going back to the installer agin :)
- Nice...now I can run the installer from the desktop....
- Let mce manage the network by itself...
- Selected a mirror
- This here I have a doubt...in the internal network I'll be using 192.168.1, hopping there will be no problem with this. I kept the dhcp as yes.
- Now for the UI selection. I'm going to try the "Run Graphical Test Application" button. This is taking so long to load the test application. Didn't take this much in beta2, I guess. Anything changed here? Anyway, the application starts and I have  composite and masking working just fine :)
- Selected the interface as UI2, since I have the nvidia proprietary drivers working all right
- Selected to install libcss and lame
- Then I want to use this primarly as a pc
- I didn't burn cd's so I only have the iso's, which I'm guessing will be much faster to install. So, I'll select the iso file that contains the cache. There is no info on what iso should you select at this point but the first one is the cache iso.
- Select now the packages iso. Once again no info for the iso's.
- Previously I created an iso for the kubuntu cd, which I'm gonna use right now
- And off he goes....
PROBLEM: Instalation failed....could not cache LMCE CD 1...checking the log file

So by this, we can't use kdm, right? Nor even something like beryl or compiz? Please comfirm if  there is a chance of using this.

Thanks

« on: July 06, 2007, 05:23:21 pm »
Hi,
I'm using 2 screens in the same pc, which contains the hybrid mce. I would like to set the mce screen in the big lcd screen and keep working with the small one :). Is this possible? If so, how can I do it?

Big thanks

Users / change the window decoration
« on: July 05, 2007, 07:23:07 pm »
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to change the window decorations, but I'm unable to do this.
Is it using kdm, gdm or a specific one for mce?
If it's not kdm, is there a problem to change it back to kdm?

thanks

Users / mythtv is using all inputs already
« on: June 28, 2007, 10:24:02 pm »
Hi,
when I run mythtv it says:
MythTv is already using all available inputs for the channel you selected. If you want to watch an in-pregress recording select one from the playback menu. If you want to watch live TV, cancel one of the in-progress recordings from the delete menu.
Since I'm not recording anything, neither watching TV for a fact, what is wrong with this? Probably the tv card configuration?

thanks

Users / How to quit the "Play Video" screen
« on: June 27, 2007, 08:08:52 pm »
Hi,
when I'm playing a video, I don't seem to be able to access the menu. When I right click, the screen blinks as if it was going to display the main screen and turns back to the video screen. The only way to stop it was to press the stop key on the keyboard.

Users / keyboard repeat doen't work any more
« on: June 22, 2007, 11:21:52 pm »
Hi,
after I start the media station, the keyboard repeat stops working. What I mean is, I have to press the delete key for every character I want to delete, instead of leaving the key pressed.

How can I handle this?

thanks

Users / Re: Adjust LinuxMCE Mouse Speed?
« on: June 22, 2007, 11:17:36 pm »
Same problem here. The mouse speed is just fine, until I start the media station. After that it just gets too slow. This must be the right speed for low resolution screens. Should be configurable, I guess.
