Hey, guys,
of course IMON/VFD runs fine on Kubuntu 7.xx. I don't have a PC running a running linux currently, so I can only give hints: You need to have installed the lcdproc and lcdd. I remember them being installed already with LMCE. Search for the /etc/lcdproc.conf and /etc/lcdd.conf and search for "driver= ". You should write "driver=IMON". It *may* be that the driver doesn't support IMON, if it had been disabled when compiling. But just check that by trying it ;)
I don't remember in which file that was, but I think in lcdd.conf (kind of a server daemon, while lcdproc is "user" client).
If the driver doesn't support IMON, you'll have to download/install the sources and compile and install it by yourself *with* the "IMON" driver. The readme of the driver tells how to do this.
Shouldn't be necessary though, I think I got it running without recompling.

I'll install my htpc during next week, so I can give more advice in a few days.

There's a possibility to PXE boot a diskless MD via WLAN if certain prerequisites are met.
I didn't try it myself, but found a german master thesis on this, written by Sehar Semáan. I found the work through search in google.

ISP = Employer.
All UDPs are disabled. Azureus finds the seeders (28+), but gets no download connection. I tried the http-support, different ports, but no connection.
FTP available from someone?

Hi!
Most likely, the installer made a nice monitor definition with something like HRange xx-500. I had that problem many times with the ati-installer. X will always take all allowed modelines from itself if none are defined, but uses the highest/best according to the monitor definiton. So you don't need to edit modelines, but edit the crt/tft-specs.
Check that section ;)

Hiya!

Isn't here anyone perhaps from Germany who has connections to a University? I can't use Torrents because of heavy firewalling and would like to get a simple ftp-access. A clean open-source-multimedia-logistics-project should get some interest of universities ;)

Daniel

Why changing from ATI? The newest drivers from ATI (7.11) have full AIGLX and Composite support... should run now in full UI2...?

Hi!
Try a Live-CD to boot from and mount your root-device (e.g. mount /dev/hda1 /mnt). Look up in (/mnt)/var/log/ the log files, most likely "messages". It will only show the modules that loaded and the last one with the error.
Post it, we may be of help then.

edit: some more information about your hardware may be helpful, too... GPU, which HDD is what channel&controller?, Installed Kubuntu on which hdd (as shown in windows management, e.g. "SATA 0/1/2/3") and what partition (primary, logical,..), Raid?, chipset mainboard are the most important.

Installation issues / Re: ATI HD2400/HD2600 drivers?
« on: November 23, 2007, 12:02:42 pm »
Hi,
now... the ati-drivers from 8.42.3 on have full Composite-support, so the alpha-blending should be supported now.
Did anyone of the users test it?
Experiences with the new 7.11-driver? This should be included in the LMCE-Package as default, because it's supporting the kubuntu 7.10 directly from installer.

Developers / UI2 with ABlending now with ATI?
« on: November 23, 2007, 11:51:50 am »
Hi, all,
does LMCE now run with the newest ati-drivers smoothly with ui2/ab? It supports composite and aiglx now, as it seems, so the alpha-blending should work.
Anyone tested this?

Not by standard. "radeonhd" is a 2D-driver still in progress by opensuse.org. The official ATI-driver is 2xxx-compatible with 8.41.7, but has issues with hardware-2D. The next release shall do well, as it is said.
When released, I'll test it immediately and give a notice here. Perhaps it supports the alpha-blending ;)

Installation issues / Re: Rendering Orbiter skin #19 - hangs.... :(
« on: June 14, 2007, 07:17:39 pm »
Solved...
Rendering wasn't the problem at all but the network configuration:
When installing LMCE, I had a manually set IP for the access to the internet - which was correctly detected by the installer. After that, the installer wanted to know if a DHCP-server should be set up. Whatever the answer (I had both), the "interfaces" in /etc/network had two different entries for the LAN-port. I just removed one of them and everything is fine.
Perhaps the same problem on your PC?
Greetings,
Daniel

Installation issues / Rendering Orbiter skin #19 - hangs.... :(
« on: June 10, 2007, 11:59:56 pm »
Hi, all!
First: Beta 2 greatly improved the installation compatibility, after I did not get any installation with one of the older versions... ;)
So:
I installed on a new Asus M2A-VM (w/HDMI, but connected via DVI), Athlon X2EE4200+, 2x1GB RAM, onboard ATI x1250pro graphics. It was the usual tricky thing to install the ATI-drivers ("DRI missing", and all that), but after I got that smooth, the installation routine runs quite fine.... until....
the startup.
When starting "core services", the Launch Manager tries to set up the skins for the Orbiter(s). In the bottom message board, it stands at "Generating skin for Orbiter #19...", and the bar shows either "Rendering screen 5 of 5" or "Rendering screen 245 of 2xx", but doesn't get any further - even after hours...
Any ideas where the problem lies?
Thanks,
Daniel

Installation issues / Re: Debian 4.0 base - compatible?
« on: April 22, 2007, 11:53:01 am »
So. I have now installed Debian 4.0 after many, many tries: The USB-connectivity is as bad as in Ubuntu 6.10.... I had to disconnect every USB-device or else even the ("borrowed") PS2-keyboard won't have function...
But in Debian, the installer lets you choose to allow a "root" user. So the installation of the ATI-driver was easily done (with "aticonfig --initialize"). The next problem came after that: The next start of gnome used a 1280-resolution which my CRT-interims-monitor does not understand. A blind logon (normal user) was possible and after the gnome desktop was built up a crt-alt-"-" gave 1024x768 and a picture again. The aticonfig did not use the same modelines that have been in xorg.conf but allowed any resolutions. Kind of stupid that xserver does not recognize the capabilities of the crt-monitor... but anyway.
Now I have a nice install of debian 4.0 - 64bit... :(
Why didn't anyone warn me about i386-installers??? ;)
- I will give news when available...
