Users / "Use orbiter to continue" ???

I have successfully booted a media director from the core machine.  It boots up with no errors and gives the message "We have announced ourself to the core.  Please use a orbiter to continue."

I then installed pluto win orbiter on another machine on the network and also added an Onscreen Orbiter from the web admin page.

The pluto win orbiter loads and connects to the media director but I don't have any options.  All I have are menus on the bottom like:

Security, Lights, Media, etc.

Clicking on any of menus does not pull up any data.

The media director that I booted to is supposed to be used primarily as a pvr.  What do I have to do from here?

Developers / Diskless Boot Image

I'm wondering how the diskless boot image is created and where it is stored.  I'm assuming that it's a linux kernel image that is sent to the media director when it boots to the network.  Is this true?

I ask because I am wondering if it's possible to create a custom kernel for the diskless media directors to support specific hardware.

Users / TFTP timeout

I'm trying to setup a media director.  I've gone through all the steps explained.  The pc is getting the correct IP address however it is getting stuck while doing tftp:

CLIENT IP: 192.168.1.3 MASK: 255.255.255.0 DHCP IP: 192.168.1.1
GATEWAY IP:192.168.1.1
PXE-E32: TFTP open timeout
TFTP..

Any ideas?

I successfully installed LinuxMCE last night on a dedicated core server.  The server has two gigabit network cards:

ifconfig output
eth0 -> Cable Modem
eth1 -> 192.168.1.1

I am able to access the internet from the core server.   I am also able to access the LinuxMCE admin pages if I go to http://192.168.1.1 or http://dcerouter from the core.

The issue I am having is getting the other computers on the network to receive IP addresses.  I have a Linksys wireless router that was acting as the DHCP server.  I disabled DHCP on the router and gave it a static IP address of 192.168.1.2 through the LinkSys interface.  I then went in to the LinuxMCE admin page and made sure DHCP was enabled under Advanced->Networking.  I also set the DHCP server to start giving IP addresses from 192.168.1.3 so as to not conflict with eth1 or the LinkSys router.

After applying the above updates I was unable to pick up an IP address on any of the computers (windows or linux) on the network. 

So the question becomes, is this setup even possible?  Will disabling DHCP on the LinkSys router essentially turn it in to a switch?  Has anybody had any experience with this?

If anybody has a similar setup I would love to here how you were able to assign IP addresses to numerous computers on the network.

Installation issues / Install Checklist

I have just ordered a core machine and a media director that will be used primarily as a PVR for now.  After reading through all the documentation, I'm a little confused as to how exactly drivers and outside packages should be installed with LinuxMCE.  Here is an overview of what I think must be done for the install process:

1.  Install Ubuntu (Edgy) on the core machine.
2.  Apply all available updates for Ubuntu.
3.  Install LinuxMCE.
4.  Go through initial LinuxMCE configuration.
5.  Add the Media Director.
6.  Reboot and enjoy.

So, since the media director will have no hard drive (network boot) I don't see how it's possible to install anything on it.  This particular media director will have an Nvidia card as well as a pcHDTV card.  I've seen threads on people having issues with the nvidia driver.  Should the nvidia driver be installed on the core using Ubuntu's installation methods?  Will it then be available to the media director when it connects?  If so, should it be applied between steps 2 and 3 above?

Also, if I would like to add some of the third party packages like libdvdcss or enable-dvd-bookmarks, will these need to be installed using Ubuntu's installation methods or through LinuxMCE some how?

Users / TV/Audio Media Director Questions

Assuming that you do not go with a hybrid setup, when a TV Media Director is acting as a pvr, does the cpu encoding take place on the media director or the core computer?  I'm wondering what the TV Media Director would need in terms of hardware.
