In PS3, both mythtv and linuxmce shows up as media servers out-of-the-box. Have you tried?

I have some problems when my PS3 tries to play the files, but that seems to be a general problem in my system. It happens with all mediaservers I am running.

Anyone who has looked at this box by now?

It lookes like a long awaited functionality in regions like Norway where the digital TV signals (terrestrial og cable) don't work with regular TV-cards. (The signals are either mpeg4 or encrypted - so no TV on my LMCE  >:( ).
The question is -will it work under LMCE?

it's under /etc/X11

So if you want to edit:
sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf

PS. Make a backup before editing.

Installation issues / LMCE crash after installed both VDR and Mythtv
« on: April 06, 2008, 10:05:14 pm »
Ok, this is double posted, I created this thread under Users, but got no response. Maybe it suits better under Installation issues:

Suddenly when I start my system I get this error message in the Lauch Manager: initialize_LMdevice:connect failed.
Basically LMCE will not start, and goes into an endless waiting loop (the cursor is just a "spinning wheel"). The X background is all black, all I can see is the Launch Manager window. I can open LMCE Web Admin though another computer and also SSH.

I wonder if it has something to do with that I first installed VDR then also Mythtv (Huh). Is this a big messup, and if so, how do I unistall VDR?
Anyone who knows what to do, or at least which logs I should look into?

I am running 0710b4 amd64.

If no one helps I have to reinstall my system :-[

Installation issues / Re: Dual Boot Question???

If you go for a CD install you can partition your harddisk as you like and install GRUB/LILO to load into the OS you want. The DVD-install wipes your harddisk!!

BUT one major feature with LMCE is to have it act as your router, so I would strongly recommend to use it as a dedicated system (i.e. have the core on a separate pc).

Anyone?

Should I provide more details?

Maybe wait until b5/RC1 ?

Please, any suggestion is appreciated. Can not find anything in the forum.

To update all packages:
sudo apt-get update

If you want other options try
man apt-get

Users / ZWave PC interface - which to choose?
« on: March 13, 2008, 02:51:32 pm »
I am now facing the step of also include lightening in my system  ;D. I now run 0710b4.

I have considered ZWave dimmers/switches.
The old ACT PC-interface (Z101 ?) which was plug and play is not for sale anymore. For me there is now three options:

1) ACT ZCS201 (serial/RS232)
2) ACT ZCU201 (USB)
3) Seluxit viaSENS Home Controller (USB)

The Seluxit is according to the wiki Plug and Play with 0710b4, but I am not shure about the other two. I found a 10 page thread on the developers forum, but I don't really know what the conclusion is. I do not want to make this more complicated than necessary. I consider ACT (USA) as a bigger brand than Seluxit (Denmark) and therefore think it would be the best choice (??). ACT is even about $20/£10 less expensive. Generally I prefer USB over Serial.

Anyone?

Well, that's the difference between world and essential edition.

BUT, I have now had my ethernet WD up for 2 days without any kind of trouble. Just wanted to say that. I am now running 7.10b4, my last try was with the 7.04. I do not know why, but my previous problems are gone :-). I have played movies from it (but just short bits) and transfered about 200GB to it and it has never disappeared from the network.

My SPDIF is even working so now, so I finally have the opportunity to use this great system!!

why wouldn't you just plug it into the core and use it as a USB drive, you should still have access to all the media at any MD, right?

How will you be be able to do that? The WD world edition is a NAS with Ethernet connection, not an external USB-drive. The USB-interface (the flat type connector, not the square) is for drive expansion only according to the manual. Is there a way to hack it?

Hi

I had the same problem about 6 months ago. My WD MyBook Word edition (NAS) had to be manually rebooted all the time. It seemed to just disappear from my network. It was so annoying that I uninstalled LMCE and installed Mythbuntu instead. After that, the drive has worked perfect.

BUT, I would rather use LMCE on my system and want to give it another try. In the meantime I have disabled MioNet and enabled SSH   access on the device ( http://martin.hinner.info/mybook/sshaccess.php ). Don't know if it matters, my linux knowledge is rather basic.

I have also wondered about how to install other programs in kubuntu after RC1. Do we have to use apt-get if we want i.e. another browser?
