everybody wins if we pull together

I am in, Smiley
I will try to help where I can
1st project is to get a handle on rs232 tv control as with others  I am frustrated with the lack support for current models.
If I can get mine going (Olevia 232) I will happily add it to the wiki .
I have been holding off on posting my hardware spec, hoping that the 710 release would fix some issues and would have some better results and post them at that point. If it would be better to post my hardware and problems sooner than later I would be happy to. Most problems I have found work arounds through the forum  or have unanswered posts.

Thanks

903  LinuxMCE / Developers / RS232 controllable TV ?? Olevia 32" LCD on: November 08, 2007, 05:38:30 pm
I have a Olevia 32" LCD which has rs232c port mini-din 8 pins.

There are discrete codes available www.olevia.com/rs232/rs232.aspx I have the 232
So in theory this Tv should be able to be integrated into LinuxMCe right??   Wink

So here are my questions.

1. Cable - db9 serial to min d9in8 - strait thru or null modem ??
2. Is there a template for one of the  supported TV's that can be modified with Olevia codes. If so where and how can I edit it.
3. Proper mode line to get 1360x768 @60hz right now 1280x720 (Does not fill screen)

any help would be greatly appreciated.

totallymaxed

That is great I have been looking to do the same here in the USA. I have been working with Pluto since 2.036  I think and haven't felt the project has matured enough to go main stream.  I am glad to hear you have overcome the Issues enough to start selling and servicing LinuxMce. I have / am considering putting up a web store to start offering LinuxMce tested hardware. I don't want to step on your or fiire toes, but I do want to help grow this project and think there is plenty of opportunity. Id love to setup a LinuxMce services business here in New England USA. Id would greatly appreciate any input regarding these thoughts.

Thanks

905  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: dvd jukebox's on: November 01, 2007, 05:31:47 pm
I have no problem with sound when playing dvd's  or cd's that have been ripped to core or nas just cd's mounted in the jukebox.
Again the problem is only on media directors not the core/hybrid.

tschak909

Sorry to ask again but I want to clarify.
You have media directors as well as core, and don't have problems with either??

Thanks

tschak909

I also have 1 with 2 more on the way.
I am having a couple of issues wondering if you are seeing the same.

1. No sound when playing CD's stored in the unit from when playing from MD (remote shows the song progress). Playing them from Core/hybrid works fine.
2. Juke box disconnects and is not available untill its powered off and on.

Thanks

907  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Not able to select HDMI? on: October 30, 2007, 11:23:41 pm
There are a bunch of posts similar I believe you have to select the proper connector via keyboard keys 1-5 if am not mistaken the wizard defaults to vga pressing 1, 2, 3 etc changes the connector, check other post for which number are for which connector.

hope this helps.

If you are using spdif make sure you unmute IEC958 in alasmixer settings.
run alsamixer from a terminal and press m to toggle the mute setting on IEC958

good luck

909  LinuxMCE / Users / No Sound when playing cd from juke box on: October 28, 2007, 11:01:15 pm
No Sound when playing cd from juke box, DVD play fine. You can see the progress timer working when playing cd's .
It works fine from core/hybrid  where the juke box is connected, but I have two MD that I have tested both seem to play but have no sound. Again DVD at MD stored in the juke box work fine, CD's ripped to cores HD play fine but No Sound when playing cd from juke box. (Sony viao)

any suggestions

910  LinuxMCE / Developers / Re: Next Version?? on: October 24, 2007, 04:49:17 pm
I thought the intention of naming Linumce 1.1 to Linuxmce 0704 was to sync it with ubuntu family release. Is that the intention and its just behind. I was hoping to rebuild my test 7.04 Box and bring it up to  7.10. Based on the other posts mentioned is it safe to say we wont see another release until 0804.   Embarrassed  If so I will rebuild everything under 7.04

Thanks

911  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Firewire STB recording in Myth? on: October 24, 2007, 04:22:52 pm
I have successfully streamed and changed channels from My DCT6200 (did not try recording yet) using LinuxMce 7.04 I followed the mythtv firewire notes to get it going.  Had to modify my mythbackend script to prime the firewire connection. All in the mythtv firewire notes.

Good Luck

912  LinuxMCE / Developers / Next Version?? on: October 24, 2007, 02:58:53 pm
I have just installed mythbuntu 7.10 on the hd of one of my media directors. It seems to support some of equipment a lot better, can we expect those  changes in LinuxMce 7.10
Things noticed so far:
Better scanning and channel identification for my HdHomeRun.
More remotes available by select from list.
Supported my streamzap remote simply by selecting it from the list.

P.S.
Is there a release schedule and feature list available anywhere?

Thanks

913  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Re: hibernation would save a lot of time on: October 15, 2007, 09:50:51 pm
I would also like to save power and $ while maintaining functionality. As a compromise I have been looking at powertop  http://www.linuxpowertop.org/ which should work when 7.10 is released this will help us determine what we can shutdown and hopefully get the best power savings for the way each of us use LinuxMce Would be nice if LinuxMce would use the info provided by powertop combined with the hw db and wake the various systems as needed and then return them back to idle when not in use.

Just my .02

914  LinuxMCE / Users / New version?? on: October 15, 2007, 04:46:29 pm
With the release of ubuntu 7.10 just days away,  do we have a time frame and feature list for an updated version to run on 7.10.

 Shocked

Thanks

915  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Hauppauge MediaMVP as a MD? on: October 15, 2007, 04:17:55 pm
I have booted the mvp from Linuxmce using the instructions from the mvpmc site.
Things you should know.
The user interface is mvpmc not linuxmce. (Would be nice if someone could update the firmware to work with Linuxmce).
I have had limited success playing some videos via mnts.
I have been able to use the music client to play music from linuxmce's slimserver.
MythTv I had problems, may be related to mythtv passwords.
Check the MVPMC site for details on features and functionality. You will be basically be booting and reading media from the Linuxmce box, but the applications (user interface is in the firmware that is loaded on the mvp at boot time.

Good luck
