887  LinuxMCE / Users / Remote assistance feature on: November 16, 2007, 09:00:32 pm
Can someone explain what remote assistance enables. Does it just set up access to ssh in or does it do more.

What can one do over the web as far as controlling linuxmce is just the wap capabilities provided in the mobile orbiter or is there more.

Thanks

The reason I think you need to swap the patch cords (external-internal)

is if you google 169 IPADDRESS one of many articles
http://www.pctechbytes.com/computer/article-8.html
If it does not see the DHCP server it will give up and make up an IP address for itself. This IP will often look something like 169.x.x.x. This is a local address that will not likely have any communication with other PCs on the network.
didn't you say earlier
internal 192.168.80.1 eth1
so all internal pc's should be on that net (192.168.0.xxx)

Quote
I think is a small type-o and should be 192.168.80.xxx instead.
Edit Yep typo

should be 192.168.80.xxx

You can also use the swap interface under web admin networking.

Sorry if I am wrong just trying to help

889  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Ripping from Jukebox Not Working on: November 16, 2007, 06:27:36 am
Two options-
The content navigator has a delete button but thats slow for a lot of files, Or you can access them from the KDE desktop. But permissions may be a pain.
To get around permissions
Run konqueror as root

Select run command from kmenu
type in konqueor and set options to run as root

I use this with kate to edit files as well.

Turns out that setting the rip format in the Admin website Home -> Wizard -> Installation page Miscellaneous section "Ripping format for cd's" does not actually change the ripping format. The setting saves as a config value properly, but ripping continues to produce Ogg format files. I reloaded the core, and rebooted the LMCE server, but no change. Bug 3495

Funny I set mine to flac and have no problems

What format are you trying to use?

890  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Networking on: November 16, 2007, 03:54:15 am
I appreciate the help.  I use a modem connected to linksys gateway with dhcp turned off.  That runs into one network card on the linuxmce hybrid.  An ethernet switch is connected to the second network card.  All other computers are connected to the switch.  I turned everything on in the following sequence:  Linksys, LinuxMCE, router and then other computers on the network.   All computers on the network have 169.254.181.xxx addresses.  As far as which network connector is external or internal, what would determine which would be which.

Just a hunch if not to much trouble.
Try this turn dhcp on linksys and switch the patch cords.

Here is one that is close to what you are looking for.

it uses a lot of what is Linuxmce  so it may not be that out of the question.

892  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: LinuxMCE and Internet on: November 15, 2007, 09:39:50 pm

I have it connected to a 32" LCD TV and run it in native 1360x768 for a very sharp display.

NOS

What TV and what video card are you using I cant seem to get my Olevia 232 to display 1360x768
do you have a special modeline?

I am using a Toshiba LCD tv which supports a native resolution of 1360x768 over the vga input, you need to check your manual to see what options your own tv supports.  The following modeline gives me 1:1 pixel mapping resulting in an amazing sharp display

   Modeline   "1360x768" 85.5 1360 1424 1536 1792 768 771 777 795

If I use the hdmi input then I can not get 1:1 pixel mapping so have to run at a much lower resolution which is slightly fuzzy

I am using an Nvidia Geforce 5600 video card

NOS

My TV does support up to 1368x768 but I have been using the hdmi port totallymaxed states it is much better that way I have tried a bunch of modelines to no avail maybe I try them using the vga connector but isn't the vga analog vs digital are you experiencing any tearing when watching fast moving TV sports etc.

Thanks

893  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: lircd.conf does not get updated on: November 15, 2007, 09:01:31 pm
the USB UIRT does NOT use lirc! it is its own driver.

-Thom

Ok so it will it support remotes other than a MCE remote. Specifically a happuague or a streamzap remote. If so how and where do define the remote.

Thanks

Tim
894  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / lircd.conf does not get updated on: November 15, 2007, 05:44:53 pm
I have just received my USB-UIRT and I am having some issues. LinuxMce detects it and installs USBIRT038 and a mce remote.
I do not have a MCE remote so I try to add a happauge using lircdhappauge.conf  but no matter what it does not update /etc/lircd.conf
I have manually updated lircd.conf and made sure /etc/lirc/hardware.conf  points to /etc/lircd.conf for its configuartion file. I also updated /etc/lirc/ircd.conf but when i run /etc/initd/lirc start I get a message that lirc is not configured. Huh

any thoughts.

896  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Networking on: November 15, 2007, 05:17:00 am
169 adresses usaully a result of dhcp not getting an address. You said one side is a wired router is this a dhcp server ?? if not use a static address and set your gateway and dns servers.

hope this helps

897  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Flickr images not appearing on Core/Hybrid on: November 15, 2007, 01:05:43 am
I have seen a similar problem where not only does the flickr window not show but also when I start TV it doesn't show (don't recall on video) .  It seems at least in my case the window becomes disconnected from the main orbiter, but if I go to the kde desktop I can see both the filckr window and the TV window.
I am mot sure if this is the same problem as you have but simply running the av wizard and setting to a different resolution or ui fixes mine.  You can then set it back to the original settings.

Hope this helps Smiley

After reviewing the template I decided to just modify the hex codes in the ruby commands.

Example
Power off
SendCmd("\xBE\x05\x27\x00\xEA")

Send command to device   ( I did not see power off in the drop down so added the same command to several others in the drop down)
Send command to device yields
01   11/13/07 12:15:27.628      Receive string failed in HandleRequestSocket 18:ReceiveData failed Command_Impl1 Dev #170 <0xb6067b90>

I stumble onto TestSerialPort   in one of pnp scripts and tried
./TestSerialPort  -p /dev/ttyS1 -P N81 -t \xBE\x05\x90\x03\x54 -b 115200
And did at one point get a reply back. so I think my  custom cable Is correct (mini din 8 pin m to db9f)
Am I on the right track or way off base
I am simply trying to see if the tv is accepting the off signal.

Thanks

Great work bluek,

I am currently trying to build a template for Olevia 232 Lcd it only has hex codes I have tried modifying the codes for the plasma rs232 and had no luck. I seem to have communication for I have seen a response using testserialport.   Any thoughts?

Sorry I don't have any suggestions for your scenario issue.

Thanks
