1  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Is it necessary to take over my sources.list? on: March 30, 2007, 03:33:54 pm
Hi,

I am in the middle of install and noticed it overwrote my sources.list. Is this necessary? No wonder it needs a clean edgy install.

2  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Installer breaks my system's network configuration... on: March 30, 2007, 03:29:53 pm
I think I had the same problem. eth0 was assigned an address in the 200 range but an alias (eth0:0) was assigned 192.168.1.1 which is the same as my router. As soon as this became active (during install) all downloads started failing.

I got around it by editing /etc/network/interfaces and restarting networking. Now the install is proceeding again. Not sure what it will do about the failed downloads. I will have to wait for the reboot to see.

I also suspect, from some of the log messages flying by, that it has ignored my request to not be a dhcp server.

3  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Integrated distro/install cd on: March 30, 2007, 04:31:47 am
Hi,

Can't wait to try this out (have to wait until end of month to get the bandwidth). In the meantime, I have noticed a lot of comments on various forums about the complexity of the install.

One thought I had was an integrated install cd containing all the required distro and MCE files. The reconstructor project (http://reconstructor.aperantis.com/) provides a tool that can be used to craft custom derivatives of Ubuntu 6.10 with minimal effort. It has already been used to create Ubuntu Ultimate Edition (http://ubuntusoftware.info/Ubuntu_Ultimate_1.3/).

Using this kind of tool would allow you to distribute a single cd image which would handle all setup activities.

What do people think?
