Installation issues / Re: MCE 0704 CD ISO's wont boot
« on: August 14, 2007, 10:18:23 am »
An iso image is a copy of a CD/DVD. Most burning software has an ability to burn image to disc.

In windows you can use Imgburn:
http://www.imgburn.com/

In linux I use Brasero:

No. I still have no solution to this.

And I have tried installing LinuxMCE countless times to try and find a solution that works... In the end I gave up on LinuxMCE for now, and installed Pluto. There it works on the same hardware. The error must be in LinuxMCE.

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Boot via Network
« on: May 05, 2007, 10:46:34 am »
LinuxMCE already does boot over network...

All MediaDirectors and Orbiters run directly off the Core.

First, enter the Admin site and press "MediaDirectors" and Press "Setup diskless MD *"
* When you add a new diskless M/D, you must first click this button, wait for the setup process to complete, then do a "quick reload router", and then you can bootup your new diskless media director.

That does not take long, then enable PXE boot in Bios on the PC you want to use as an MediaDirector.

The next step takes a while... With Gigabit network it's not so slow, but with 100mbit it can take 1 - 4hours to build the image.
Use an Orbiter to do the setup, or you will not get the messages you need to answer to get the MD up and running.

More key points I've found:  do not install any updates, let linuxmce do that for you...
install automatix after, worked great for me..

Trying that approach now... Gave up on 7.04.

320
what packages did you install to make dvd working? because linuxmce makes this kind of things to work.

Did you ask me or ddamron? I have not gotten DVD to work yet...

And since I can not add software I belive there is still a lot wrong with my installation...
I'm now trying to install on Ubuntu 7.04 but it is not working either... The install fails after downloading packages I thing.

This is from the errorlog:
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.

In the web admin I cant see any option to remove software or a list of software.

And on the orbiter I have no list. It tries to show me a video but I see only a black square.

322
Is the "Add Software" button on the orbiters and the the "Add Software" in web admin supposed to contain something?

They are both empty, I can not select any software. Is there someting I have to do first?

323
Now that LinuxMCE is up and running again, I tried installing Automatix to get DVD working. But the automatix installer fails to install. I don't thing Automatix is compatible with LinuxMCE at this time.

324
I had to reinstall since my LinuxMCE got full once it started searching throug my media...

I decidet to try your how-to... I can start to say DONT INSTALL AUTOMATIX!!!!
LinuxMCE wont install at all...

After trying and reinstalling Ubuntu and Automatix 4 times, I decided to try without Automatix, and then everything worked like it should.

Maybe I'll try Automatix when I have addet some media.

Now I can enter the CoverArt page in Admin.

But when I press Scan for Coverart I get a new error:

Fatal error: mysql error: [1054: Unknown column 'Disc.Slot' in 'field list'] in EXECUTE(" SELECT Keyword1Type,Keyword1Search,Keyword2Type,Keyword2Search,Keyword3Type,Keyword3Search,Attributes, FK_CoverArtScan,PK_CoverArtScanEntry,FK_File,FK_Disc,FK_Attribute,File.Path,File.Filename,Disc.Slot,Attribute.Name,Engine FROM CoverArtScanEntry INNER JOIN CoverArtScan ON FK_CoverArtScan=PK_CoverArtScan LEFT JOIN File ON FK_File=PK_File LEFT JOIN Disc ON FK_Disc=PK_Disc LEFT JOIN Attribute ON FK_Attribute=PK_Attribute ORDER BY PK_CoverArtScanEntry ASC") in /var/www/pluto-admin/include/adodb/adodb-errorhandler.inc.php on line 77
