Users / Re: play HD video on slow hardware via VDPAU...
« on: May 09, 2009, 09:32:01 am »
Well, that didn't go so well...

When running mplayer I get this error in the end:
Error 1 at libvo/vo_vdpau.c:258

And searching for that error I found this:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=130690

I'll try installing the latest driver then.

Hehe.. Just tried this guide:
http://blog.avirtualhome.com/2009/02/10/compile-mplayer-with-vdpau-support-on-ubuntu/

Mplayer is now using 2% CPU :):):)
I am still using the stock 180 driver (Not the one in the guide)

Now I have to get this working in LMCE...
Oh.. and I have integrated GF7050pv in this computer...
I'll try unplugging the GF8600GT and see what happens...

I can confirm that this is working for me too.
I did a fresh install.
Booted my first MD (64bit AMD with integrated Nvidia 7050pv)
After a while the core MD asked for a Quick reload and the AV Wizard came up on the MD.
No drivers, no reboot, no xorg setup, pure fun :)
And a full regen of all orbiters

I then tried my Asus Pundit with a Nic that was usupported in 7.10 and a ATI integrated x1200 or something.
That one is also AMD 64bit.
After a while the core MD asked for a Quick reload and the AV Wizard came up on the MD.
No drivers, no reboot, no xorg setup, pure fun :)
And a full regen of all orbiters

GREAT WORK!

Just tried running a MKV that is 1080p (1h37m 8,1GB).
In LMCE 7.10 this file does not work, playback is choppy and green.
In LMCE 8.10 this file works and CPU is at max load (a bit choppy in demanding scenes, no greenies)

For fun I installed Ubuntu 9.04 on the same machine, installed updates, and enabled the stock 180 driver.
Tried playing the same MKV and of course it searched for a codec and installed that.
The file plays great, and Totem is using 37% CPU -+ a few.

Is VDPAU working out of the box in Ubuntu/Kubuntu 9.04?
Anyone know how I can see if Totem is using VDPAU?

CPU is a AMD Athlon 64x2 4400+
1GB ram
Nvidia 8600 GT GFX

Installation issues / Re: 8.10 Hybrid Core

Are you sure it's done when you see the black screen with the mouse pointer?

When I install 8.10 it stays like that for quite a long time, I always get tired of waiting and just leave it there with the speakers on. Then suddenly the screen changes and I hear "When you can see and hear me..."

You are not alone Rafik :)

Mine got trashed too... Reinstalling now :)

The good thing is that I still have 0710 on the same server, so I just reboot to that when someone wants to use LMCE.

Anyone know when the Fiire Remotes will work in 8.10?

A fix for the sources was made 2 months ago:
http://svn.linuxmce.org/trac.cgi/changeset/21742

Anyone know if I can edit the files myself on a 8.10 install?
I have fresh install of 8.10 Alpha 2.11

If a wired ethernet is not possible for you, you might want to look at Homplug/Powerline.
It uses your powerlines to create a network, so diskless boot works.
It's slower than ethernet cable but faster and more stable than wifi.

You can even use it as a bridge if you have more equipment near your MD.

Then we are not using the same version...
Update your repositories, and change alpha1 to alpha-latest.

Developers / Re: DVB Card support in LinuxMCE-0710

I don't know about it...I only say that VDR is ok with S2API.
I still don't have my future house (with autamation) and still don't use LMCE (don't have two network...) but why couldn't be add the S2API to the LMCE 7.10 's kernel ?
How did you read that S2API can't be installed in 710?!?
It CAN!
And YES! The driver works!!!

The problem does not lie there.... It's in VDR and MythTV and in LMCE7.10, they are specialized versions. Figuring out how to set up a development environment and patch and build new versions of MythTV or VDR for LMCE, is not something I would recommend to a  user wondering how to install a DVB Card.

VDR and MythTV does not support S2API in any stable version yet, and both the stable versions and the developer versions needs to be patched. Patching scare the shit out of any Windows user trying to use Linux for the first time and is something regular linux user don't find very simple.

S2API will probably make it into 8.10 (I'm just guessing). Posde has commented somewhere that the new VDR integration would be able to use whatever VDR version the user installs. If that's true it would make users able to install the latest developer versions with patches :)

Now how do I create a a package for it? I'm now trying to create the template.
And how do I share it when I'm done?

hello
i still don't have my LMCE working (in the year)
but i am not agree with :
Quote
there is no support for S2API in the current Mythtv or VDR versions
VDR 1.7.x works with S2API
VDR 1.6.x just need a patch to works with S2API
bye
GREAT!!! You don't agree that it does not work with S2API.
That means you actually know how to make S2API work in LMCE7.10RC2?!?

Please tell us how! I want to know! I have been waiting for this since Steven started talking about S2API...
