Installation issues / Re: Debian 4.0 base - compatible?
« on: April 16, 2007, 08:20:32 pm »
I am sorry about your problems with Ubuntu. I have tried suse and loved it. Its a very very nice distro. Everything on it works out of the box. Also, I had no problems with Ubuntu install (maybe its cause I am newb to linux). Suse/Ubuntu were installed on the same box. So I am curious about Debian also, since Ubunut is based off of that.

The best thing about suse, is how easy it was to get the 3d drivers to work, and the 3d desktop. I am struggling with that now in Ubuntu. Also did you try LMCE on suse? I was tempted to install it on suse just to see how well it would work.

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Wii Remote Support
« on: April 09, 2007, 07:03:30 pm »
There are wii remote Bluetooth drivers for linux. all you need is a Bluetooth adapter, you can pick one up off of new egg for 5$. then do a google search like I did for BT drivers for the wii remote. there is a site dedicated to these drivers. I have yet to install the drivers and test them, so I do not know how well work, according to the messageboards, there has been quite a lot of success for windows, OSX.

Compatible Products & Services / Compatible NIC with Ubuntu 6.10
« on: April 02, 2007, 05:40:06 am »
I currently have a trendnet te100pciwn, and have a hell of a time getting it to work. What card could I pop in and ubuntu 6.10 would just recognize it? I am hoping to set this box up as a router/dhcp eventually. But for now just need internet working on it :(

Any advice or recommendations would be great, I am looking to go cheap, but will pay out if needed.

Users / Re: Getting Media From Windows Shares
« on: April 02, 2007, 05:35:39 am »
This is all very good information, what I am wondering lets say I bought a NAS, and plugged it into my router. Most NAS' are formatted for windows. Would linux MCE auto recognize it, if I have music and video on it? If not how would I go about doing it? I am currently having problems getting my NIC working, and have yet to install the MCE part of linux....

Unbuntu 7.04 is due out next month. How well will LMCE support it or work on it? Has anyone tested the new beta of Ubuntu 7.04?

Installation issues / disabling DHCP functions in LMCE
« on: March 26, 2007, 11:55:40 pm »
After install, How do I disable the DHCP functions in linux?  I want it to function as if it was not a router? Will all the MCE functions still work properly if I do this?

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: firewire support

that would be like the coolest thing ever. how would you hook up your cable box through fire wire? I know some cables have a firewire hook up on the back. or even through usb2, though fire wire is better?

« on: March 26, 2007, 07:46:53 pm »
I know the xbox 360 has media center support, hopefully for linux or some thing. but is there a way to do this with a PS3? Hook it up to a WMCE machine or a LMCE? what about divx support?

I am also having issues with networking. Is there a detailed walkthrough on how to setup the ip configuration in Ubuntu? I used to know how to log into root and sup user, but well its been a couple of years. SInce I have used linux. the router that is being used is a wrt54g, how do is disable the routing /DHCP functions on my linux box? I am having issues with the install, but beleive those are more easily fixed.

I am having a similar issue. Except on my ubuntu box, my network card is not recognized by ubuntu. I D/L the installer and the MCE disk on windows. the MCE disk ubuntu recognizes. But it does not see the deb file once I burn it to CD. I am using padus disk juggler. Any help on this would be appreciated. the network card I have in my linux box is a trendnet te100pciwn.

They do have drivers for it for linux for redhat 6. Would they still work on Ubuntu? But copiling them I have no idea how to do.

Installation issues / network support
« on: March 25, 2007, 05:01:20 am »
I have a trendnet 100 pci win network card. When I installed Ubuntu the first time it could not see the network.  Does Linuxmce have better Network support? There are linux driver for them, but I have no idea how to compile them....Other wise I will have to buy a new network card.

Will any newer card do? Or do I need one specifically for linux?

Feature requests & roadmap / xbox 360 support
« on: March 24, 2007, 03:04:26 am »
Is there a way, without modding (ok maybe a software mod on a memory card) to get the xbox 360 to connect/network to linux MCE? I really despise Win MCE, and well Vista is "shiny"  not ready to go to that yet.  Its my brothers 360, and he plays Live all the time, and he is not too keen to mod it.

Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.
