1  LinuxMCE / Users / Linux MCE with Ubuntu 7.10 and general questions on: October 20, 2007, 10:01:25 pm
Is it possible to install Linux MCE on Ubuntu 7.10? I know it used to work (6.03/6.06?) Is there any difference between Kubuntu and Ubuntu? Is Kubuntu up to date compared to the just released 7.10? Is it best to download the DVD Kubuntu/MCE ISO, or Kubuntu + Linux MCE seperatly?

I have 2GB of RAM, Athlon 64 4200x2. Should I install 32 or 64 bit versions? I booted from the Ubuntu 7.10 Live CD, and it reported my M-Audio Revolution 5.1 , will Kubuntu work also?

Do you need discrete IR commands?

Able to have "activities"?
Control several components?
3  LinuxMCE / Users / HTPC for high-end system and Linux plugins on: May 30, 2007, 02:19:18 pm
I'm looking into a HTPC for custom install, usual dual core, graphics etc which I have a fare idea. However it needs to communicate with Creston system, over IP, play CD's, DVD's, HD-DVD's, Blue Ray. And also to rip/encode the previous without any user intervention (flac, retrieve CDDB, replaygain, etc) and also for video, either original size or recompressed (high quality) Ideally Linux. Video going to be sent into HDMI switcher and then onto HDMI 1080P projector. Audio isn't important for now, just using SPDIF until sort out that side. Must have Sky HD and freeview tuners. ATX size.
4  LinuxMCE / Users / Dual view support? on: May 26, 2007, 11:04:02 pm
I have two displays, a PC monitor set as primary and a TV as primary. I want to give Ubuntu/Linux MCE a go (have tried but got stuck at driver install points) Before I attempt again I need to know if Linux MCE support dual view. In that sense the primary keeps the desktop, and secondary opens up the media centre application, full screen. And everytime you open up the media centre app, it remembers which monitor it was opened up last (and fullscreens) Media Portal cannot do this. Media Centre can. I'm stuck with XP MCE even though it has it's flaws.
