Installation issues / Re: Could not resolve...
« on: June 14, 2007, 11:17:22 pm »
The PC on which you want to install LMCE should have a fully functional internet connection! And it has to be able to reach thats repositories.

17
The method above it's functional with beta 2, and it starts only LMCE Core Service (and Orbiter if you put AutostartMedia=1).
The KDE isn't started!!! You have to start it manually if you want too!!!

Installation issues / Re: Media Director Only Installation
« on: June 14, 2007, 11:08:25 pm »
Linux MCE beta 2 supports DIsked MD's.
So you install Kubuntu on a PC, connect it to the Internal LAN of the CORE, install the mce-installer and when asked select install as Media DIrector

Users / Re: [Q] GC100 operation
« on: June 14, 2007, 05:24:22 pm »
1.In generally all devices that are controlled by LMCE using the Network Interface, must be connected to the Internal LAN!!!!!!!
2.After you've connected the GC100 to the Internal LAN Interface (first reset it to factory defaults, then connect it to the internal lan, then press the Add GC100 button from the Advanced screen)
3.Open a browser, type the IP address of your COre in the address bar, login with your LMCE user and password.
4.Go to "Wizard -> Devices -> A/V Equipment" . Press "Add Device", select " Amps/Preamp/Receivers/Tuners"  from the "Device Category" drop-down then press "Apply filter" button.
5.Select your amplifier from the "Device Template" drop-down and then press "Pick Device Template". And your device will be added to the lmce system.
<<< If your device isn't listed here you have to create a new gsd device, and to control it by RS232 you need to write some Ruby code. >>>
6. In the "Room / Controlled by" column select the room where this amp is and the device that controls it. If you want to control it by I/R select GC100, if you want to control it by RS232 select the "COM Port on PC" on which it's connected, and on the Controlled by select the PC to which it's attached.
7.Do a Quick Reload router and you should be able to control your amp.

How To Start The Core Software automatically at boot:

First: Ubuntu/Kubuntu doesn't use anymore the System-V init  process, instead it uses upstart, more info on: http://upstart.ubuntu.com/
Second: The LMCE config file is: /etc/pluto.conf . Here you can configure if you what to automatically start the core and/or the orbiter:

AutostartCore=0 : the CORE will not automatically start after Launch Manager starts
=1 : the CORE will automatically start after Launch Manager starts
equivalent with the "Autostart CORE" check box from the Launch Manager

AutostartMedia=0 : the Orbiter will not automatically start after Launch Manager starts
=1 : the Orbiter will automatically start after Launch Manager starts
equivalent with the "Autostart Media Station" check box from the Launch Manager

Third:
A.How to change from: "Primary used as PC -- KDE starts by default" to "A dedicated LMCE System - You can start KDE when you need
it"
Step0: Open a console (ALT+CTRL+F2), login, go root (sudo su - and your password when asked)
Step1: modify AutostartCore=1 option in /etc/pluto.conf file
          nano /etc/pluto.conf
Step2: rename /etc/init.d/kdm to /etc/init.d/kdm.saved
          mv /etc/init.d/kdm /etc/init.d/kdm.saved
Step3.1: create pluto file in /etc/event.d
          nano /etc/event.d/pluto
and write this line in it:

start on runlevel 2

stop on shutdown
stop on runlevel 3
stop on runlevel 4
stop on runlevel 5

script
/usr/pluto/bin/Startup_Core-Hybrid.sh
end script

Step3.2: Save it and set 644 rights on it
      CTRL+O , Enter, CTRL+X (in nano) ,
      then in console:
      chmod 644 /etc/event.d/pluto

Step4: Reboot your PC

B.How to change from: "A dedicated LMCE System - You can start KDE when you need it" to "Primary used as PC -- KDE starts by default"

Step0: Open a console (ALT+CTRL+F2), login, go root (sudo su - and your password when asked)

Step1: rename /etc/init.d/kdm.saved to /etc/init.d/kdm
          mv /etc/init.d/kdm.saved /etc/init.d/kdm

Step2: delete the pluto file from /etc/event.d
          rm /etc/event.d/pluto

Step3: Reboot your PC

check /var/log/syslog  ( open a console: CTRL+ALT+F2, login, type: tail -f /var/log/syslog , tail -f /var/log/messager could also help you troubleshoot your problem )
There you should see if you have errors with mounting samba shares. Rebooting the PC sometimes resolves this problem.

(options of the mce-installer screen)
First Option:
1.Yes, install all the media playback and remote control software and make this computer my first media player
---Selecting this option you will have a Core and an Orbiter on the same machine.(called a Hybrid Installation)---
KDE will also be available.
2.NO, I'll use other computer(s) and DMA device(s) to playback media. Only install the core software on this one.
---Selecting this option you'll have installed only the Core. To be able to view media, listen music or control other devices you'll need to install an other PC as MD.---

Second Option:
1.Primary used as PC -- KDE starts by default
You can start Linux Media Centre from the "K menu -> Multimedia"
2.A dedicated LMCE System - You can start KDE when you need it.
If you have an OnScreen Orbiter by click on the "Advanced -> KDE Desktop" menu,
or if you're installation is only CORE, by opening a console (CTRL+ALT+F2),
login with you're user name and password,
get root by typing               sudo su -          and when asked for password give your account password,
type kdm at the console and KDE desktop will start

(options of the Launch Manager)
Third Options:
1.Autostart Core
If you have a hybrid installation you must first login in KDE and then Start LMCE from the "K Menu -> Multimedia".
If you have only a Core installation, the CORE will autostart after Kubuntu starts. (I don't need to interact with your PC for LMCE to start)
2.Autostart Media Center
Option Only Available in the Hybrid Installation. This will automatically start an Onscreen Orbiter when LMCE starts.

23
From your CORE LMCE PC launch Web Admin
Login with your LMCE user and password.

Method 1:  create a Web Orbiter
1. Go to Advanced -> Configuration -> Devices
2. Press "Add a top Level Device" . A a description like "Web Orbiter"
3.Press "Pick Device Template" . An Pop-Up Windows will appear.
4.Select from the Device Template drop-down the "Generic Web Device" and press "Pick Device Template"
5.After the new Device is created, expand it by pressing the "+" sign and click on the "Generic Proxy Orbiter"
6.Select the room for this orbiter, generally the Core room will be a good choice, then press SAVE
7.Do a "Quick Router Reload" from WIzard -> Restart
8.Type in the address bar of the Browser : http://dcerouter/pluto-admin/weborbiter.php
9.Login and then restart your diskless MD.
If you try to connect to the Web Orbiter and see this message : "Connect to proxy orbiter failed, please try again" this means that the procedure of Orbiter generation doesn't finish yet or you forgot to quick reload of router.
( for more information please check this page: http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Add_Web_Orbiter )
10.When on the disless MD Screen will appear the message "We announce ourself to the....." you'll get the message on your Web Orbiter that a new MD is detected. Select General PC as MD and assign it a room.

I have added the CM11A to the interface page and added lights to the light page but it is not obvious to me where you add the house code/address of the X10 modules  i.e. A1, A2 etc

Open an internet browser. Type your LMCE Core IP in the address field.
Login with your LMCE user and password ( that you've created in the video wizard).
Go to Wizard -> Devices -> Lightning. Here you'll see all your lights. Be sure that every light it's "Controlled by:" CM11A.
Here you can set the

house code/address of the X10 modules  i.e. A1, A2 etc
for every lightning device, the Room where it's situated, the type. Depending of What type(Floorplan Object) you choose the picture that appear in the Lightning Floorplan will be changed.

Go to Web Admin, in Files&Media->Media Files Sync page select audio from the left frame(home-public-data-audio) and press the Resynchronize button. Select it's type (generally for audio files select LinuxMCE Audio FIle_, press the "Add to database" button and after you've added all your files press again the  Resynchronize button.

The samba shares are configured in /etc/samba/smb.conf .
To understand all the options in there run from the console: man smb.conf
