For now, I don't think the multimedia stuff and home automation that is included in LinuxMCE. That said I am still interested and might try it out later. Thanks for bringing up Zoneminder hari. Seems more like the project I was looking for at this stage.
Hopefully it is matured enough to be useable.

Hi,

I bought a Foscam FI8910W Wireless IP Camera recently. Install was very straightforward and it is pretty easy to use. Features are ok. My main use is for in house security and using the motion detection.

Still testing and tweaking it, but I was wondering if LinuxMCE can be beneficial for such a small setup. I only have the security camera and for now only like to use the camera with LinuxMCE to send an alert mail when there was a detection and maybe save the pictures on an online storage.   
Would LinuxMCE be the tool for me, or is it overkill too bloated and I should stay with the default Foscam firmware?
Have been a Linux user for some years now, so using Linux and diving into some scripting I consider to be a challenge and not a problem.
