Not really, no...

Other than that I've never had a lot of faith in the Meta data... In my experience, it is pulled off the web, and can be very wonky (Andrew Lloyd Webber example above, plus 2 CDs in the Rolling Stones Greatest Hits 2 CD set, with completely different info, almost as if they were from 2 different collections).
I agree that a significant amount of meta data downloaded form online databases is incorrect and I edit nearly all the metadata to correct things but that's not the point here.  I'm not suggesting that population of this data is done automatically, the issue is that for classical music the regular format of artist - album - track is not enough information, the addition of the composer tag would really be the minimum as other info such as conductor, venue, etc is also very useful.

Plus, although not for Audio, but for Video, I've never had any of my DVD rips identify correctly by any media center software (I mostly rip the movie only to AVI, or mp4, rather than copy full ISOs, for space saving reasons). So to satisfy my own needs, I would simply edit the Meta data...
You'd be surprised at how effective XBMC is at doing this

But if someone can help barrydocks out, and flesh the id3 attribute tracking system out, great. I'm not much of an audiophile, I guess. It wouldn't occur to me to make the effort.
I would be more than happy to do the leg work, it's just that I am not a coder and I have never really used LinuxMCE before, I am still struggling with the install :-[

This would be great, as you cab see I have looked extensively for a media package to do this meaning that LinuxMCE would be the only one able to do this which would be a big pull for classical music fans and audiophiles in general :)
Thanks - I just need to get it to install next  ;)

If you are mannually editing the Meta data, might I suggest that you include the performer when you are listing CD title, and stick the composer in the artist field?
I am fairly resigned to this answer,

Also, from your other post, it seems like your only concern is to use LinuxMCE as a jukebox. If you don't also have video, home automation, telephony concerns, etc. ... LinuxMCE might be a bit overkill for your needs,... Not that I want to stear you away, or anything. But LinuxMCE is a project that melds many media and smart home functions into one place. Changing a small part of it, like the audio player's sorting functions, can therefore be a bigger task than what you might think.
nearly, I have extensively used xbmc both live and openelec for media streaming music, internet video and HD media, and photos, etc.  I have also looked at canola, miro, boxee, enna, moovidia (which I think was elsa) and I have just posted on myth's email ring (but I was under the impression that LinuxMCE uses Myth as the media player?).

The only 2 packages I found that can do this are anorak on linux and foobar2000 on xp, I was hoping to get a distro type setup rather than a PC with a certain prgramme to run?

I am very open of other suggestions (ideally linux based)!!

@ barrydocks:

What comes up on the metadata of your files for the artist? The reason I ask is that I have a copy of the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. It comes up as the artist being Andrew Lloyd Webber.
What ever you want to include as the artists.
What I want is to have:
artist: performing artist, ie london symphmonic orchestra
album: what ever the cd tilte is, ie bach live at st pauls
track: synphonie number 1
composer: bach
plus any other tgs I can include like conductor, etc

Installation issues / Re: Installing 1004 - really frustrated!!!
« on: April 14, 2012, 06:34:14 pm »
Just discovered that the dvi connection may have been part of the problem last time, so now trying on a dell optiplex with vga.

the only problem with the dvd iso is that I don't have a dvd writer, is it possible to boot from a usb drive with unetboot?  only ever tried with a cd iso??

This looks like it might be academic anyway, take a look at my other post regarding composer tags for music files  :(

I assumed that was what I would be installing if I followed these instructions:
wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Installing_1004

I have a large classical music collection and would like to have a media centre that will read the composer tags on flacs and mp3 files?

I did read a couple of posts that suggested this feature might be available in 1004?

Thanks

Installation issues / Installing 1004 - really frustrated!!!

I am a new linuxmce user but a fairly experienced linux user over the last 5 years and I have drawn a complete blank so far. >:(

I have tried installing 1004 on 3 different machines all ending with similar results, I would like to setup a simple standalone core/hybrid machine to test a few things out.  So far I have tried installing on
VMwear
dell vostro laptop on usb HDD
Dell GSX 620 desktop on internal drive

All results in a black screen with a white cursor, ctrl-alt-F1 suggested everything stops after orbital generation is complete.  Loggin in as the initial kubuntu user shows nothing really running with top command  ???.  On the last install I was able to browse to the web admin page from a different machine.

Please can someone give me a n00bs-level instructions for installation and getting a hybrid and running??

Thanks
