Feature requests & roadmap / INSTEON Hub Item# 2242-222
« on: July 30, 2014, 06:06:54 am »
Anyone have any experience with the Insteon Hub? Link @ bottom.
I haven't seen many posts about Insteon lately.
I'd like to purchase one of the starter kits but the all come with the hub instead of the USB/Serial plug in anymore.

http://www.smarthome.com/2242-222/INSTEON-Hub/p.aspx

Am I looking at this the hard way? Does everyone use Z-Wave?

Thanks,
B

Hari,

I'm guessing "a device" that's not PNP would include.....
Potatoes
Pet Rocks
Light Bright
Glow Worms
And the entire collection of Hardy Boys books.

elboy0712,

Take a look at http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php/topic,11693.msg81593.html#msg81593

The commands are simple but I never got around to making it work.

Virucyde,

I think what the others are trying to get at is the basic way in which wireless networks preform as a result of their inherent structure.
One of the greatest improvements in speed, other than faster radios and protocols, was the ability to MIMO.
In a classic wireless network, other than with multi in multi out, one has to assume a token ring architecture. This often results in massive bottle necks.

It may very well be possible to send a VLC stream from one side of the apartment to the other with no problems.
But try doing that while both of your kids are watching youtube videos and playing XBOX live over wifi, then throw in streaming Pandora through my XBOX over wifi and you'd soon find your wife yelling at you that she is having problems watching netflix from her iPhone. (Yes I speak from experience)

I have 16meg uverse internet so I am quite certain the bottle neck is not my connection but the wifi.

Ok got it all in there and back to the orbiter on my Core - BUT

Now I get this popup stating that some services did not start.
How do I check what services are actually running?

I did at one time have a freeNAS box.
I never got into the Jail thing because I just ran SABSICKPOTATO (as i like to call it) on a seperate windows machine I had laying around.
It has since been re-purposed as a MD so I was looking for a way to run it on the server its self.

I like the idea of running the processes in a "sandbox" type of environment but I think in the long run if I can get SAB to play nice it would stream line the process of getting them into the next release. Maybe LMCE 12?

l3mce...

No problem... I'll start working up the Wiki pages for each project.

Brief rundown of what each is..

SABNZBD+ is an NZB downloader - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NZB - Self explanatory.

CouchPotato - Is a Movie locator for NZB files. Finds the NZBs for movie files and then sends them to SABNZBD for download and assembly.

Sickbeard - Is a PVR on crack.  This thing allows you to put in the TV shows you watch and then on a regular basis checks for new episodes send them to SABNZBD for download and assembly.

What the three do together is amazing.

The truly great part is that there are several applications for iPhone and Andriod that allow a user to control what each is doing.
I can tell my iPhone to add say The Big Bang Theory as a TV show to sickbeard. Sickbeard then asks me if i have any folders with episodes in them currently. Then it asks what seasons I would like to look for, finds them and begins to grab them.

I believe a script could be written to install all three.
The manner in which I was able to get couchpotato and sickbeard working was from a wget command so the extract and .conf editing could be done easily.

SABNZBD is another animal.  I'm going to have to take another crack at it.  I had to turn on the normal sources inside the desktop which then grabbed all the updates and screwed my install.

I'll update shortly as soon as I get a chance to reinstall LMCE.

 ;D

OK update - I know that was fast.

Just found the tarball for SabNZBD+ on sourceforge - I'll try to install from the tar tonight.

Just got 10.04 beta up and running. - Had left the project for a few months due to personal reasons - ... The wife was bitching about unfinished projects.. and not the computer kind!!!

Any who...

Stumbled across the following link

http://www.howtoforge.com/the-perfect-media-server-ubuntu-11.10-sabnzbd-sickbeard-couch-potato-headphones-serviio

Ok so i know that we a technically working from the KDE DM for the dependencies but I worked through the steps and was able to get Sabnzbd, CouchPotato, and SickBeard all running along side our trusty LMCE messaging system.

They all talk back and forth through the API.

My questions are

1. Would anyone be interested in WIKI pages that detail individual projects and the edits I had to make to get the processes to run root - which were not much but it is worth noting for the noobs (self included)

2. I am not all that good with HTML but I would think that it would be easy to put links to the localhost URLs on the main page so that an end user would only have to load http://localhost and click into each project?

3. If it is possible to install these pieces after the fact would it be possible to install them on the uptake? Each project is not but a few meg each. In total the ISO is 2.5 gig - drop in the bucket size wise.

4. The easy part - Put links in the computing tab to access the URLs?

I know we don't talk about ****** (self edited for Hari's sanity) but these are some awesome apps that utilize that service.

Awesome!! Renamed the device from the tree view. Quick reload router and boom (insert best John Madden voice here) I get actual names instead of Generic PC as MD.

Thanks Dave

Is there any way to change the way it displays on the phone. When I select it from my phone all it shows is Generic PC as MD.
Which is great it works well but I've got three MDs and they all show the same thing.
I play guess the MD until I get the right one, but I will never be able to use it after like 8 o'clock when my kids go to bed. Don't want them to fly awake to the sound of Cold Play @ midnight.  ;D

Installation issues / Re: Hulu unable to find flash
« on: March 09, 2012, 11:48:59 pm »
Thom

I will try and do a clean install on a spare box over the weekend.
I would think that the issue happens when the createMD***.sh (forget the exact command) is ran.  My core was able to run hulu when i first started. Come to think of it I was watching Hulu when I ran the command from my laptop through ssh.

I'm not exactly sure what to look for but if you can point me in the right direction I would be more than happy to help out.

I was having the same problem with my MDs. If you haven't done so already. Open hulu -> click the install link -> and download the .tar to your desktop. Launch the KDE desktop from the MD menu and locate the tar you just downloaded. Extract the .so file to the desktop and copy it to the location that Hulu is looking for it. Restart your system and hulu should fire up without a hitch.

I'm sure this could be accomplished from the command line but I'm still attached to the GUI.

Unless I'm incorrect - happens from time to time - Europe is on 220v where as in NA we are on 110.  Are the KNX/EIB devices I find on ebay.de compatible with our 110v system?

If not where might I find 110v compatible products as from what you guys are saying it is the best to go with?
