Installation issues / Re: Installation hang on second step. Please help))
« on: November 05, 2011, 06:10:51 pm »
So just to clear things up a bit for myself and perhaps others. The latest build 8.10 final is not simply put the disc in and install? Because I ran into the same problem as others. I downloaded the image 2 days ago thinking everything was settled and good to go, yet freeze up at the firefox point. I walked away from previous versions as they weren't yet stable and I didn't want to keep fussing with changing things I wanted to wait for a stable final release which I thought was available now? Please don't misunderstand my confusion I am always grateful for everyones hard work on this project. But when you go to the main page and it says everything is good to go then you go to install and it doesn't even make it past the installation it leaves some of us noobs a little lost to say the least. If someone could post up the exact sequence of events of what to type in at what stage to get this working I would be forever grateful as not being a regular and sometimes the terminology gets me running in circles.

Installation issues / Re: Playback Question
« on: December 28, 2010, 06:15:55 am »
Bump for a problem still ongoing. Like stated earlier I can see all the files on the media director and in the media files sync section yet nothing will play, says the files cannot be found? For an update though disreguard all other posts in thread as I had to reinstall the system due to a failing hard disk. So we have a fresh install here now, when setting up I chose to not use these drives that the media is on for storing lmce content just chose to make content public as I have a seperate 2tb drive I am going to use for that. Not sure what is wrong because i can see it just can't access it?

Well its good to be back up and running, took your advice and put the operating system on one hd and put the additional hd in for storing media. Now just have to get back to ironing out the problems with being able to detect media on my other computer but not able to transfer or play it on the mce system. Once again thanks for the ideas.

Ya my only concern is the power supply being smallish in a small case and running low on power for everything. I'd just might have to crunch some numbers and see what I have to play with. I'm sure I could tuck a regular hd where the dvd drive would normally go, mines external. I do have a monster tower on the network but last install I was having problems file sharing maybe this time around I will have better luck though.

Thanks for the heads up chem. I bit the bullet and warranted the hd. Figured all I really had invested was time as the movies are still hard copied on dvd. Still stunk though. That a good idea about running multiple hd's. It would be a tight fit in the case I have right now but might be possible worth a thought for sure.

My install has been running great no real big problems until now. I tried installing some more dvd's to my library when the system prompted me that the disc was too scratched whatnot to read and install. So after waiting for about 1/2 hr and no response from the system to let me eject disc what not I had to press the reset button. Which upon reboot it laods to the normal screensaver background all my other computers on my internal network work, then when you try to click on any menus you get nothing and then a blank screen. Pressing alt f1 gets me this Ext3-fs error (device sda1):ext3_find_entry:reading directory#56583363 offset 0, over and over again cannot login to router here or through the internet screen? And now nothing works except the screensaver image? Is there a way to roll-back or what ever to recover if there was an error? Because after loading about 100 movies and having my entire house setup and running i would hate to have to reinstall? Like I said it has been working flawless but now I am at a loss here, everything on the core is brand new, mobo, hard drive, mem, cpu, case? After searching a bit more I am thinking it might be the hard drive, nothing worse than a brand new hard drive crapping after 30 days!!!!

Installation issues / Re: Playback Question

Yes Sir. Like I said earlier though I am still having issues accessing the files over the network I can see the folders under manage drives but listings are empty. So when I transfered through kde desktop I thought all was good because the files transfered and showed up in the right spot verified through web admin interface. But when I go to the orbiter to watch the movies it pops up with the error prompt. I am wondering if I would be further off deleting the fileshare under the web admin interface and letting LMCE refind that computer and establish a new link to those files? Because when I first linked to those files LMCE installed a pvr folder to the file folders on the other computer but not the audio/video folder which I thought was the norm? However I have to resolve this issue I will wait for expert advice such as yourself because the system is working flawlessly other than that and I am stoked about getting everything else up and running. I am really enjoying LMCE I cannot say that enough lol!!!!

Installation issues / Playback Question
« on: November 29, 2010, 05:31:52 am »
So everything on my new install works great. Except when trying to play files that I transfered from my other Ubuntu computer located on my internal network. I had issues with not being able to access the files on my other computer so I switched to the KDE desktop on my core and browsed the network from within there. Found everything fine, moved the files to where my other movie files are located on my core. Now when I go on my media director and press play I get the unable to play disk pop up?  All my other movies that I added via dvd play flawlessly so where might I have gone wrong? And fyi when I first set up my ubuntu computer on the network I enabled using it for storage and such, Mce created a folder within my shared folders for pvr files live tv but that is it no other places to drop video/ audio files. I realize I am still very wet behind the ears but what could be wrong this time?? Thanks for anyones help in advance. And if this has been covered and I missed it doing a search just kindly let me know as I have not found anything so far, at least that I was able to comprehend.

Installation issues / Re: Low Profile Tv Card? Whats the best for LinuxMCE
« on: November 18, 2010, 10:22:55 pm »
I'm gonna do the pvr 150 for now, like I said I need the channels offered by the cable company, due to the crappy assortment thats available with qam here. Thanks for the input though. I will definitely look at the usb model mentioned earlier in the near future as I do like some of the options offered with that model, maybe by then we will have some more options with the qam in my area?

As much as I would love to have only digital and hd, the reality is my time warner cable has about 10 channels on qam and of those only 2 or 3 I'd actually watch. I guess I am just caught in a pickle, I like the idea of the homerun but not sure if I should go with it. And as much as the wifey cleans and nosy kids in the house I could see a usb stick "falling out"  :D. But I will look into that one seeing as it is confirmed to work with the analog. Thanks for the input.

After pulling up that model I do see it's a separate box and not a dongle that sticks out the back. It does have possibilities..

Installation issues / Low Profile Tv Card? Whats the best for LinuxMCE
« on: November 17, 2010, 10:11:49 pm »
I have searched a bit on the wiki and the forums am looking for some suggestions on what card people have had good results with. I have a low profile pc that needs a low profile card with bracket.  I was looking at the win tv hvr 2250 as it fits the bill, just haven't found anything listed recently if this card's abilities are fully up and running with LinuxMCE. The most recent article I found was from Aug this year. According to the wiki it's listed but with no ratings next to it. So if anyone is using this card for regular cable tv reception and it's working let me know. Thanks. I would also consider the hdhomerun but we only have a handful of clear qam in my area. Either way give me some feedback on either of these or your card, like I said just looking for suggestions that are current.

Thanks yes I am overjoyed to say the least. Once again many thanks to the creators of lmce and the knowledgeable people that are out there that help others. Yep got a great picture and sound out of the revo like  I said just have to iron out some small bugs. Heck I even got my eken m002 working as an orbiter with no problems. I am very satisfied after playing around with the system and the more you follow directions the easier it is to use, lesson learned- just let the system do what it was designed to do and your problems will be minimal.

Ok  ;D ;D ;D I am a happy person now!!! Got it all working, I had a bad ethernet switch this whole time so I re did all the lines and viola. Here's how I set everything up. Ran the main internet line from my cable provider to a router the way you would normally hook it up, then I hooked up all my other computers in the house up to that router, ran a line from that router to my core then the other line from my core to an old wireless router I had{not to the internet port} then basiclly used that router as a switch disabling the onboard dhcp from the routers menu. Then I hooked my media director cable to that router and everything booted up and setup great, even got audio over hdmi with no hassles what so ever. Only thing I have left to troubleshoot now that everything else works is when I select play on a movie on my media director I only get sound no video? The flicker images and all the menus ahow up fine just no video.

Ok I can switch it back around, the only reason I had it that way was when I was troubleshooting everytime I reset the core I lost all internet connections on my other computers and was annoying the wifey!!! Makes sense that overlooking that might be the cause of the problem and the solution might have been in front of my face.  Fingers crossed this is the simple fix I will let you know soon...
