Installation issues / Re: Intel Mini ITX Motherboards all O.K?
« on: July 05, 2010, 03:53:02 am »
Many thanks for that guys it has been super useful.
I have been pricing some options and am thinking that a pre-built ASUS Eee Box (like the other poster used) would be great form a price standpoint but given that this will be driving a 32" and used primarily as a director not orbiter perhaps I am better to spend a bit more and build my own with a better board.

I will give it some thought anyhow, given I will be needing a number of other media directors for the other rooms I supposed if the Eeee did not work out well I could demote it to an audio only zone.

Many thanks again for all your help.

Super! Thanks for that it sounds very encouraging. Updated kernel should not be a problem in this case as its all fresh new gear for my folks house. I have been testing their core for a few months while the house is being built.
Thanks again for your input, very helpful!

Installation issues / Intel Mini ITX Motherboards all O.K?
« on: June 29, 2010, 09:38:01 am »
Sorry guys I know I should be able to figure this from the Wiki but the newer board I am looking at is not listed. I am specifically looking at a  BOXDH57JG but if no one is familiar with that board it might help to know if all the Intel mini itx boards are generally O.K? My intended use is as a Media Director by the way.
Many Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that, I have seen a couple similar boxs about as well. I am also thinking, as I can get a call box which basically consists of a microphone, speaker and momentary switch I might just put in another media director and rig the mic and speakerphone to that and send the momentary switch to one of my GC100's. I take it then I can just use the intercom function in telephony with a bit of programing of an event etc.
If anyone can think of a better way though please let me know, and if that dosnt work I will go for an IP box as you have suggested. Thanks.

Installation issues / Re: Compatible Outdoor Dome IP Camera
« on: April 11, 2010, 07:24:15 am »
Thanks Thom!
Thats great news, I will check the spec's of the current Panasonic IP dome camera's and go that way.
You have saved me a lot of work, I am most grateful.

Hi I am just pre-wiring a house for the doorbell/camera/gsm solution that is touted for Linuxmce. Just wondering if I can use an analouge door phone call box with an ATA for generating an event and starting the two way communication. I am assuming here you can start an event from Aterisk some how that will start the camera feed etc?
At this stage I just need to get the wiring sorted but I would feel more confident if I had a concrete plan to get this up and running, as I have only used linuxmce as a theatre box so far.
Any help MUCH appreciated!

Installation issues / Compatible Outdoor Dome IP Camera

Hi everyone,
Thought this was an easy question but I am finding it really hard to find a "java based" and therefore compatible outdoor rated dome camera for use as my front door camera. Anyone have any ideas?

Installation issues / Speakers Amp + Bluetooth Headset for Phone
« on: March 29, 2010, 10:16:06 am »
Hi all,
Just wondering if there is a way of running a bluetooth headset for the phone and speakers/amplifier for everything else all from one media director?
I thought about having two media directors with a KVM switch for the screen but its a bit pricy/clunky as far as solutions go. Any help would me much appreciated.

Hi All,
I have a system running a Hauppague Nova S Plus PCI Card which is working well. I have bought a USB version of the same card  (running low on PCI slots) and have plugged it in and powered it up, rebooted the system but I cant see it under the MythT.V Setup when I go to set the card up.
Any suggestions?
Many Thanks in advance!

ManDiago, I forgot to mention that I also have a Nova-S card installed as Card 0. I take it that would change the modprobe.conf entry. Also, I dont have a modprobe.conf file at present so I take it it is O.K to create one. Many Thanks again for your help.

Many Thanks ManDingo,
I will give that a go as soon as I get some "Man Time" with the toys, hopefully later today. I am more than happy to help with anything you want to know regarding the HVR3000, could even do a remote session for you if you want to have a direct poke around yourself.
The card did autodetect itself very nicely and everything looks good for terrestrial out of the box so will be very interesting to see how it goes with Satellite.
Will update you as soon as I have had a play

Just a couple of points!

1. - Downloading the orbiter software from the core. I had this 0 bytes issue as well and did  a rough fix by doing a google and finding an external download of the orbiter software. Sorry I no longer have the link for you but it worked a treat.

2. - Can you clarify, are you using a DVB - S (S for Satelite) card? I had a few small problems setting my card up, one was I was escaping out of the second screen after setting up the LNB instead of hitting finish and this of course lost my LNB settings. I am in little ol New Zealand so actually crossed to a NZ specific Mythtv Site to get detailed instructions on setting up for our local Satelite Freeview. There were a few little tricks to it so perhaps a similar googling for your area may help if you live somewhere a little less populated like I do.

Hope that helps a little.

Might be helpful if you tell us what sort of T.V you wish to run i.e Sky, Free Satelite, Free Terrestrial HD, Analouge etc as choosing one of the easier T.V Capture cards will make your life a lot easier.
I am running an ASUS Motherboard in my core with a new I7 processor and it runs sweet! The only problems I had with setup were/are related to one of my T.V cards which is a hybrid and initially a problem with the AV wizard which turned out to be to do with my network settings.
I will by trying some Thin Clients and also a small nano motherboard with integrated touchscreen for use as Media Directors in the coming weeks if you are not in a hurry. The system is great and well worth the effort!
Good Luck!

Installation issues / Re: Problem with AVWizard in beta2
« on: January 09, 2010, 09:32:28 pm »
I had almost exactly this problem. What differentiates the trouble you are having with others having AV Wizard problems is that you are having the AV Wizard go around in a loop. Believe it or not that probably means that you are having trouble with your network card and internet connection which is causing the Wizard to crash out. You would have most likely had internet when you installed as far as the Kubuntu Desktop but once LMCE was installed you lost it.
To fix the problem is quite easy! I rebooted, selected the recovery option to get to command line and then followed the instructions in the post on this forum entitled "Fresh Beta2 install failed"
Hope that helps!

Firstly thankyou so much to all those whom have developed and help support this awsome piece of free software. Hats off to you all!
I have a new installation of 0810 and have worked though many small issues using the posts from others on this forum. Just a couple things remain that I cant seem to find help on:

1. I have 2 t.v capture cards a Nova S which is working well and an HVR3000 which I would like to use just as a DVB S Card for the moment. Problem is it defaults to the DVB T front end in the t.v card setup wizard. Can anyone tell me how to change the card to appear as DVB S so I can add it and get it running?

2. I have a collection of first and second generation windows mce remotes that have come with various hauppague cards I have bought over the years. They all work using the ir reciever attached to the HVR3000 but I am unable to get the menu, exit and volume buttons to work on any of them. I have looked at the setup guidelines on here for mce remotes but the instructions dont seem to match with the media director screens on the webadmin page in 0810. Any help greatly appreciated!

Rock On Linuxmce Team!
