Will these work with over-the-air digital TV?

I'm interested in helping somewhat, but don't think i'm fully up to speed yet!

Perhaps if someone mocks up some ugly simple mockups I can make them pretty...?

Thom, et al - i'm playing more with the system, and starting to get a feel for it..in my case, it's a linux learning curve too.

Anyway, I'll start a new post about UI (or ID an existing one).

Also, software is easier to change than humans.

Human patterns and existing conventions should be used whenever we can... as an outsider coming in, I'll put forth a few observations:
a. Noobs like me should get greeted, in a perfect world - the way I have been here. It's very helpful to know there's an online forum for questions, and furthermore, the forums aren't just for tech gods who look down on my lowly questions. What we're really creating here is improvements in people's lives... the wealthy who hire home automation experts might not care, they just hire someone to fix the problems - but for the masses, LMCE is close

b. I'd love to see (help with even, if anyone's in Los Angeles?) a "what next" video or stupid-simple wiki...say you installed LMCE - now what? What PVR to buy? What is an orbiter (I've figured it out...)? What do I need to control my stereo? A big-@ss "start here" I think will help more people not just install it, but make it part of their life.

c. Orbiters should default to a contextual layout. Any orbiter should control any device, but this is something i'll push for and am happy to help design context-specific orbiters. I'm guessing the main orbiters might be: Entertainment, Security (Entry/Exit)... perhaps bedroom (wake-up + sleep shutdown + security..?) + main default + kitchen specific if anyone tackles assisted cooking?
(note: this conversation moved to new post - plz reply there)

d. This could be presumptious for a rookie, but I think I saw a post that LMCE is home automation, not entertainment center...but I think I reject the assumption that this has to be the case - only because those two are not contradictory. It can be both and has the basics of such already (??). The music player for orbiter needs a lot of work, but

Has anyone yet taken....

this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS9pGOxQ10Q - RC Paintball Tank
to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7922kUXhEes - computer RC control via PCTx
and added this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dj2RUneQuRI - glow in the dark paintballs

to home security? Looks like fun to me ;-)

If anyone does it, please post a video.

I think LMCE is uniquely positioned to be central to "assisted cooking".

My brother was an engineer for Pillsbury, and per their research, they categorize all meals into 1 of 3 dominant categories:
 - heat and eat i.e. microwave dinners  (about 25% of the market)
 - semi customized (about 70% of the market)
 - from scratch (about 5%; polarized between gourmet chef types and ethic immigrants who do this to save money)

I'm guessing there are not yet available (but why not?) faucets that can dispense water by measurement i.e. 1 cup; Z-wave or Insteon ovens, etc. ...these devices, coupled a step-by-step instructions could really make an expert chef out of anyone capable of following directions.

re: inventory control, it would be SO much more efficient if there a way to get the information from the store i.e. receipt (scan the reciept? Take a picture with an iPhone? Bluetooth receipt like in Japan?) - thus avoiding having to re-scan everything with probably would not end up saving much time.

Last, I think the way a human relates to an orbiter is highly contextual...? I.e. the orbiter in the home theater or living room is probably used most often for entertainment, so while it should be able to control the whole house, it would make sense for the on-screen real estate to be primarily dedicated to home entertainment... orbiter by the door is probably for entry/exit/security... an orbiter in the kitchen is probably all about food, and morning routines i.e. kids off to school.

Anyway, I'd LOVE to have some help cooking - and I'm a great chef (per my girlfriend, ha ha) and believe LMCE has the guts to control my kitchen as well as it does the rest of the house.

the video... and i'm so green it's my first linux install, but I'm hooked on the dream!

I do happen to be a great designer, IMHO, coder, not much at all - but I'd love to help the project and make it look nicer..i'm not sure how to get involved but am open.
