Users / Low Disk Space Warning
« on: March 02, 2009, 12:35:03 pm »
Hi,

I have a very simple one machine Linux MCE setup. The single hard drive is 160GB and is pretty close to full. But, I don't care. I have all my music and video on it, and am happy.

However, I keep getting "Low on Disk Space" warnings coming up on the TV screen (and on my Nokia orbiter). This is especially annoying when I am watching a video because it places the warning pretty much full screen over the top of the video (which keeps playing). I click on OK on the orbiter (nokia tablet) which clears the message on there, but the only way to remove it from the TV screen is to get the mouse connected to the media director and click on it.

Ideally, I would not have a mouse connected to the media director directly, as I use the nokia as the orbiter.

Surely there is a way to disable this most windoze like warning message?
also, is there a way to have a media director without an orbiter as part of it?

Cheers in advance.

Users / Adding tags to video files
« on: February 19, 2009, 12:12:17 pm »
Hi, This may not strictly be a Linux MCE question, but...

I have loads of videos (mostly AVI files). I would like add tags to them for Linux MCE to recognise. Is there a tool out there which I can script to add tags based on directory structures (my files are in program/season/episode.avi type format, so it would be easy to add a tag based on that). I did this to my music because it was converted without tags.

Many Thanks

Sorry to have asked the obvious. I had been looking in completely the wrong place: Advanced -> Network -> Network Settings!

How do you do this in web admin? I added an extra wireless interface because the built in one was not very stable, so I have 3 interfaces eth0 ath0 and wlan0. when i look in web admin it says I have 3 interfaces and tells be eth0 is my external interface and ath0 is internal, but there is no way to change these (I actually now want eth0 for internal and wlan0 for external.

(I ended up hacking the database as per the previous post, but am in the process of a rebuild so would rather avoid it next time around!!!)
Thanks

Users / Re: Looking for a Cheep Web pad for an Orbiter

Hi am a bit of a newbie, but have been playing with MCE for a few weeks now. I brought a Nokia N800 as an orbiter (about £100 new from ebay) although the screen looks small, the quality is excellent, and I now use it for general web browsing as well as an orbiter. I leave mine on when I am home and the battery lasts 7 hours when in use and about 7 days when in standby. It turns the screen off when not in use, and I have turned bluetooth off.
Highly recommended!

thanks to all who posted.
I have basically converted (or am in the process of converting) my m4a files into mp3s. Then I will add tags based on directory structure using a script.
Not ideal, but better than using file browse method (in my opinion).

Users / Broken MCE. upgraded some packages
« on: February 12, 2009, 04:50:23 pm »

I stupidly did an apt-get -f install on my MCE box, which I think, either up or downgraded a couple of packages like xine_XXX. Not surprisingly my Core/Hybrid no longer works! The symptoms are:

The hybrid boots up fine. The launch manager starts and everything seems fine. it says "starting orbiter" and that is that. It seems to still be responding, and I can connect my remote orbiter and browse media, however, nothing plays when I select it (nor surprising), and the on-screen orbiter never starts!

I'd like to try re-installing some of the packages which LinuxMCE installs (is it correct that the versions of things like xine are VERY important to MCE working??)

I want to try and avoid a full re-install (for now!).
Thanks in advance

Thanks all.
I had not realised that m4a files did not contain any tags (serves me right for buying an apple!). Anyway, I am looking at converting the m4a files to mp3. I know it is slightly lossy, but I can probably recover the tags. I don't fancy re-ripping my cd collection!

Thanks. I have done exactly that, and have both reset the core (hybrid in my case), and done a resynchronise on the media.

In the media sync the m4a files show as being in the database (as do the mp3 files), however, in the Orbiter they do not show up!

Hi,

This is exactly what I need. I (stupidly) imported all my CDs onto my apple mac mini (do'h). I have now converted it to run Linux MCE (yeah!) and don't want to re-import over 300 cds.... but I can't find the old post relating to hacking the sql database to accept other file extensions.

Any help would be great. Linux MCE is excellent. I have a Nokia N800 as an Orbiter now, and once all my media appears, I will be truly happy.

(I have been using Linux exclusively for over 8 years now, and should have known better, buying a mac... what was I thinking).
Cheers
