Andrew:

Quite right. I do agree with everything you said and I second it.
But, hard-coding the UI design in cpp, instead of using a JSON definition brings us no closer to a platform-independent UI.

Thom:
In my limited experience it is very hard to design platform/device/graphics-lib independent systems, unless development on those systems is progressing, to some extent, in parallel.
I do trust your judgment when you say it can be done  afterward as you know far more than I regarding this specific system.

I do realize we cannot spread a small community like this one too thin, but, If 1-2 people interested in another platform, Android for example, start putting a couple of screens together, in parallel with the clutter effort, it would probably be easier to avoid unintentional lock-ins. (I mention Android as it seems to be raining Android tablets)

I hope this post is not too off-subject. I'd hate to interrupt the clutter discussion. I really feel that clutter is a good call !

thanks,
gt

I do not know how useful this could be, but it may be a way for non-programmers to contribute

Users / UITA Skin missing text on some buttons
« on: May 02, 2010, 08:26:07 pm »
Hi, the UITA skin (UI1) appears to be missing text on several buttons. I have not been able to pinpoint a pattern for which buttons it happens. (It does happen consistently, and in several fresh installations)

For example, on the computing screen where the keyboard appears, the text on all keys shows fine except for the cursor keys.

Other examples where the text on the buttons does not show, include:

1) Auto-generated scenarios for AV equipment (also the "more..." button)
2) All telephony scenarios (e.g. quick dial, intercom)
3) Hitting the "more" button at the end of the Media row in the main menu brings you to a screen will all buttons showing no text.

I feel it is probably something simple but my limited knowledge of QuickDesigner  was no help in finding what the issue is.

Any pointers?

All the best

Users / Multiroom Audio
« on: December 15, 2008, 04:58:23 pm »
Hi *,
I'm trying to use a multizone amplifier in order to deliver audio from my core to several rooms it has 6 inputs and six audio zones. It has an RS232 interface with trivial commands (e.g. '(2sl3)' will play input 3 in zone 2). The communication part is dealt-with.
I looked through the ESS Expandable Speaker Selector and the Marantz templates, to no avail.

I've spent several days trying figure out how this should be done but I'm out of Ideas.

Could anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

George.
