Yeah, torrent does say b2, but neither the downloads say anything about it, nor the file i downloaded (downloaded it from http://linuxmce.iptp.org/) say anything about a beta. And thats what confused me.

Hey folks,

has been a long time and my last setting was 7.10. That was fine those days. Now i am back here, and read: wow, 8.10 released.

BUT WAIT: While in 7.10 DVD install everything went out of the box, it seems like 8.10 is still somewhat... messy?! I mean: Install Kubuntu and then double click for LinuxMCE, then afterwards, create the MD images. Especially when reading this:

"The DVD installer per default does not create the initial MD image, as that creation takes a very long time, and most people probably prefer to give 810 a test, without the MDs. If you want to setup MDs, you have to manually run"

Nothing that could be done of course, i just wondered if 8.10 is really finished for use or is still in a "test it, but dont really use it" state. And if 8.10 is ready (i know, there are ALWAYS some bugs to fix) why doesn't it just do it all alone?!

Thank you guys anyway for your great work!

Oh, by the way: is tschak's gaming module now integrated into 8.10? Homepage at least gives the impression it is.

Uhm.. there are several firewalls that are indeed for free and also offer advanced security functions (Intrusion detection, web-virus-filter). And if you still need reverse proxy, well, there is a command line. Go for it.

Problem is the PCI Bus: it runs at 66MHz, so maximum throughput will be 66MB/s;
maximum throughput of GBit = 125MB/s;

Again the big Gigabit Lie...

Oh, and those are only theoretical numbers...

Oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh "reverse proxy" oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Another great M$ "invention" which noone ever had before!

And what do you use this special over killing feature for?

Oh and by the way: because YOUR GREAT INVINCIBLE ISA FIREROXXORWALL doesn't manage to get some simple traffic through, it HAS TO BE a problem of LinuxMCE?!

ISA and Firewall?

Thats like freezing hot water so you have it in the bad days...

I always thought it was a myth and only existed in some M$ marketing gags. Never believed anybody would use this crap.

Windows Style - "Media" -> "Videos"
iPhone Style - scrolling through Media
MCE Style - all the rest

Just a short off topic question: my mothertongue isn't english, so excuse the perhaps stupid question: what does "no dice" mean? I know what a dice is, but well makes no sense to me this way.

Thanks for the explanation

Hi!

Do you have more than one Harddisk in your PC? Could it be the system tries to boot from the wrong harddisk?

Hi!

To get back to X you have to press "CTRL + ALT + F7" - by the way - you can use F1 , F2 etc. to get to different consoles and have several commands executed at the same time

Users / Re: Tested - Terra 3770 Thin Client - not working!

Hi!

I guess it should also be possible to build in some external graphic card (the case looks like there is an expansion slot) but the problem is: it's not my client - it's only testing, so i won't start disassembling it ;)

But thanks for the hint - perhaps there can be something done, but so far - it's useless.

« on: July 20, 2008, 10:13:18 pm »
Hi guys,

as one of our customers wanted to change his network to thinclients, i had the chance to test a Terra 3770 thinclient for some days.

Status so far: there is no way to get even the X server up and running - the Client comes up with: "Failed to setup X" and freezes.

Sorry for posting this here, but there is not "tested" area in the forum and i guess most of the people will look into the forums first.

Just a short question: What are the components of the MD and the core?

How much ram does your core have? Had Problems when i only had 512MB in it.

You could also try to get your core's UI down to UI1 (if you already havent) - had that problem already too.

I'm not quite sure if mythfilldatabase should really be triggered on the client, or if going into mythsetup triggers it on the core. (Since the core contains the only database and all MDs only connect to it)

But i'm always willing to learn

Installation issues / Re: Integrated ATI RadeonTM 1250 and UI2 issue
« on: July 19, 2008, 12:58:08 pm »
Hi Michael,

i had the same problem some days ago with a radeon 8000 series (i think it was a 8600). Anyway, i also had the blank screen. tried to resetup the MD, but for me, it didnt work.
The only thing that in fact worked was switching from the ATI to a GeForce (switched the aTI into the core, and the GeForce from Core to the MD).

Sorry, thats about all i can tell you.

Igor
