A Quick question Andy.

Am I correct in assuming that the new orbiter does not work with LMCE ?

Thnx

Thanks for the explanation Andy.
So if you add a sat box to the same room, controlled by the core, can you configure the the Rpi to switch the TV to the correct input for the sat box?

With today's TV's you already have 'smarts' in the TV - just plug a network connection into the TV and it can be controlled from anywhere by any Orbiter. If your TV is slightly too old to have an on-board Network connection then install a Rpi running RaspBMC behind it and you can get all the same capabilities, including CEC control, on your existing TV.

Andrew, could you expand on that a little, mainly on controlling the Rpi and how do you attach it to a room with no MD ?

Thnx

I also think that media directors are becoming obsolete. With the orbiters residing on smartphones and tablets, it is really a matter of running the wiring needed to control the Verious TV's and other devices.
BTW, the latest versions of XBMC have the ability to work as a front end to both MythTV and VDR. The only thing that remains in my view, is the complete control of XBMC from the orbiter, if that is accomplished I don't see any use for MD's.

Possy, I did not ask for maintenance, I simply asked for some info I have no way of finding out (mainly, where does the 10.04 version of the xine player reads its subtitle fonts from) ...

Well, nice to see someone set the ticket to "invalid" and closed it.
I guess LMCE is only for those who's native language is English ...

In my opinion, there are two sensitive areas in a lmce system, network and the core hdd.
You need the core hdd to be as fast as possible, preferable a ssd drive.
As for the network, this is you main bottle neck, so try to use the highest quality components you can afford, go for a Cisco switch if you can, and cat6 cables all around (altough cat5e works ok as well), and if possible, use an Intel nick as your second nick on the core. These are known to play nice with linux.
For the cores hardware, make sure it works good with ubuntu. It does'nt need to be super powerfull  and needs to have any expansion slots you might need for stuff like TV cards etc.
For MD's I would look for the smallest and most silent sollutions you can find that have Nvidia stuff on them that is comptible with VDPAU acceleration. Take a look at Zotac stuff or maybe other ION based devices.

Hope this helps

Users / Re: installing mono
« on: January 01, 2014, 11:31:01 pm »
To answer my own question, and a huge thank you to TSCHAK and L3top for solving this for me, you can do this either by compiling mono from source:
Code: [Select]
apt-get install gcc g++ bison gettext make
cd /usr/local/src
wget http://download.mono-project.com/sources/mono/mono-2.10.8.tar.gz
tar zxvf mono-2.10.8.tar.gz
cd mono-2.10.8
./configure --prefix=/usr/local
make && make install

or running:
Code: [Select]
apt-get install --dry-run mono-2.0-devel
Hope somebody will find this useful ...

Users / installing mono
« on: January 01, 2014, 12:35:31 am »
Hello

I need to install mono in order to run a windows EPG grabber program, because I have no other option. But I can't find a way to do it.
I added the correct repo (badgerports) tried to run "sudo apt-get install mono" and "mono-complete" but no go. I also failed doing this thru synaptic.
Any idea ?

Users / picture viewer constantly failes to load upon reload router
« on: December 28, 2013, 10:09:40 am »
A fresh new shiny 10.04 install on trieds and proven hardware (been using it for a while).
The installation went flowless and everything seems to be working.
How ever, when ever doing a reload router, the picture viewer fails to load. Any ideas what could be causing this or what to look for ?

Thnx
