Users / Diskless boot stall usb
« on: July 31, 2008, 07:55:42 pm »
Hi, I'm trying to diskless boot my lenovo x60 tablet but it doesn't even get to the point where it is supposed to announce to the router.

It stalls at a message that looks something of the sort...

usb 4-4: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

I'm not planning on running this all the time, I just want to experiment a bit, and see how a diskless boot works as I am considering some thin clients.

Thanks for any help

Users / Plugins? Customization, look and feel
« on: November 04, 2007, 04:24:41 am »
Hello, I have finally set up linux mce for the first time. It's on an older laptop and don't think I am able to run UI2 and such.. Atleast I don't think I can, it would be nice if I could.

So, at the moment I have the basic interface, is there any possible way I can make it look a bit better?

my bigest complaint is the way the file browser looks. I can't tell the difference between folders and files and the fact that the left half is empty.

I know of a windows media center plugin that will goto amazon.com and find the dvd cover and display it, does something like this exist for linux mce?

Also, I have some folders filled with vob files, is there a way to handle these in a nice way? It was be ideal if it could look at the folder for the title of the movie and just display that versus a folder with vob files that the rest of the family will be clueless as to how to deal with them.

I'm very happy I got it running, but, I could really use some further customization and maybe plugins.

Thanks

Users / Did not run A/V wizard... normal? - core
« on: September 23, 2007, 05:48:06 pm »
I'm having a terrible time trying to get a computer to do a diskless boot. I have not had a successfull boot, however, the server is being detected.

On my server, I set it up a core and only a core, so, does it make sense that it never ran that green themed A/V set up thing?

Users / Mount call failed: 13
« on: September 23, 2007, 03:23:49 am »
I'm trying to diskless boot.. and ... there are about 20 lines that just keep on repeating over and over on the prompt, the last one says "mount call failed: 13"

And as I was typing this, it finally stopped looping and now says

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
(initramfs)

at the very bottom

Any Suggestions?

Thanks

ah! So far I believe I have the core installed on one computer. Buuut. Now I know that I need to be setting up "Media Directors".

Thank you very much for the explanation. This defiantly gives me something to go on.

could you install mce without the core? and have it connect to the core installed on another computer.

Sorry if I'm not even using the terminology correctly.. Complete newb here.

Thanks

Depending on a few things I may be installing Linux mce tomorrow.

I was wondering if computers already running linux are able to connect to the core. Basically... that is to say, act as if they booted over the network...

Reason is, The clients that might exist will likly not be specific to just playing media.

Thanks
